I understand why it has to be done on a forum but instead of the scroll bar can we have it where you can click on an image to see the full size pic like I've seen on other forums?

Give me an example. In particular, give me an example of where someone posts a picture on the site (using a host like photobucket) and you can click it.
For attachments, yes. We already have that. But I am not aware of a situation where you can click on a picture that is hosted elsewhere.
But give me an example, so I can see what you're referring to.
Thanks, Eli.

Also, I just changed the dimensions of the site a bit. Now we're able to enjoy the 1024px width pictures -- without having to scroll over (at the bottom of the post).

Marcus, I think me means this:
(My local board, with pictures resized)
http://ohiobimmers.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4272
Let me know if you can see that ok

My local forum goes with pics that are a little larger than that but, same concept.

Looks like eurowerks has limited the size to 1024px as well -- even when you hit the enlarge button. Our site has 1024px without having to hit that enlarge button.
However, I'd prefer to narrow the width of the site -- and have it so you guys can enlarge just like eurowerks.
One thing. I notice that eurowerks is using vbulletin 4.1.2. We're using 4.0.7. I am not sure if that feature is available with our current software.
I will look around.

And the Ohiobimmers group is using older software. Therefore, we must have that functionality here. I will figure it out.
Thanks, guys.

Also, I will not go wider than 1024 here. Looks like that's what eurowerks decided to do. They have a fixed forum. Ohiobimmers has a fluid forum.
We have fixed.

The 1024 width is nice. It would also be convenient to have the "click to see original size" option for stuff that is bigger than 1024 rather than scrolling.

I'll explain what we're dealing with here at our site.
I have allowed for 1024px pictures. Anything larger gets resized.
We have a fixed forum. It is 1160px wide. At that width, it allows a 1024px picture to be displayed perfectly, inside of the lines.
If I take the forum width to 1000px, for example, pictures that are larger than 1000px would break to the right every time.
What you're asking for is for me to actually allow for pictures that are larger than 1024px. I won't do that. Look at eurowerks. They decided to limit their displayed pictures -- even after enlarging them -- to 1024px. That's the decision I've made on this site too. I could conceivably allow for 1440px pictures, but that would take us back to our decision a few months ago to allow for bigger pictures on the site (which brings bandwidth issues into play).
My preference, today, is to find a way to integrate the "click here to make picture bigger" button. But in no case would I allow the expanded picture to be larger than 1024px.

So, I have been digging around. Turns out that you have to do a hack to get that functionality. Whoever runs those forums has likely coded the CSS template.
I will put this on the back burner.
For now, all users can see the maximum sized pictures (1024px wide) allowed on the site without having to scroll over.

Somethings going on for me. I don't know if it's on my end or not though. I have to scroll on every thread?? Is it the top banner doing this? Just noticed it today but that doesn't necessarily mean that it started today. I haven't changed any resolution settings on my pc and I just looked on my laptop and it's the same way there.

1280 X 800. I like it at this size cuz I'm an old fart and my eyes aint what they used to be. Even wearing reading glasses I prefer it this size. Sucks gettin' old. LOL

Barry, what browser are you using? I'm going to guess. Some type of IE? IE7?

Firefox 4.0

Hmm. I am using FF 4 as well. I do not have that problem. I have to guess it's something on your side. It does not do this on my computer.

I tried 1360 X 768 but it still left me with a little bit of scrolling. 1680 X 1050 works but it leaves about 1 1/2" of blank space on each size.

Given that screen size, there is no way this should be happening. You should have a ton of real estate on both sides of the screen. In fact, our forum is less than 1200px wide.

It has to be a setting that is different on your monitor versus mine.

Hmmm....works fine on IE8 but my text is a bit smaller. I'll mess with it tomorrow and see if I can figure out what's up.

Still having the same issue here at work Marcus. Every page of the forum is too wide. I've tried some other VBulletin forums and they all fit fine. Weird, I wonder what's going on?

It's definitely a setting of yours. You may have your settings adjusted some funky way here. I advise you to go through your general settings here. You're the only one having this issue, which leads me to believe it's a setting you have.
Marcus-SanDiego

I will give you my settings for the forum.
Tell me if you differ on any of them.
Marcus-SanDiego

Starting at the bottom first:
Enhanced Attachment Uploading off
The forum features an enhanced attachment uploading system that allows you to reuse existing attachments via a drag and drop interface.
Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use the enhanced system. If you experience problems with the interface, try disabling this option.
Marcus-SanDiego
04-04-2011, 08:22 AM
Message Editor Interface:
Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls
When posting messages to the forums or other members, there are three interface types available to you. The simplest of these is a simple text box, while the last is a fully-fledged WYSIWYG editor, which allows you to format your text as you want it and see the results immediately.
Depending upon the capabilities of your web browser, you may not be able to use all of these options. If you experience problems when posting messages, try switching to a different interface type.

You're probably right. Just seems odd though that I'm getting the same thing at work. I was thinking maybe something to do with FF4 but I haven't DL'd that at work yet. Not so sure I like FF4 but I looked around yesterday and it looks like you can't find any older versions for DL anymore. Something else weird I'm seeing is my cursor pointer seems bigger and the other cursor (not sure what it's called, looks like a capital I) that you see when you mouse over text is for sure way bigger for some reason. I tried going into my mouseware and the control panel to look for smaller cursor icons but it looks like I am already using the smallest ones. I CAN make the page width narrower so that I don't have to scroll horizontally by just using the zoom feature on my mouse but then the text gets smaller than I like.
Not a big deal though Marcus, don't want you stressing over it.:biggrin I'm sure I will figure it out someday, probably by accident.

Ok, just changed my resolution to 1280 X 720 and zoomed out a bit with the mouse and it's ok now. Still I wonder why I would even have to make any changes.

No idea. Unfortunately, I can't change it on my end because I wouldn't know where to begin.
