View Full Version : Cadeez's Titanium 2004 ZHP - General Project Thread

The day has finally come, I'm officially back in the ZHP game!! I've been on the hunt for another ZHP ever since I sold my last one (BMW Curves can attest to this), and regretted it. I loved my '01 330i sport, but it was pre-facelift and not a real ZHP...no matter how hard I tried to make it look/act like one. Anyhow, I'm super happy with the car I found, I actually flew down to Oakland and bought it from a BMW master tech who works at BMW SF. Car was as advertised, transaction went smoothly, and I had an excellent 10 hour drive home to really feel it out. Cosmetically it needed some love, but overall the car is in excellent shape, and was bone stock when I bought it. This post is half to welcome myself back to the Mafia, and half for keeping up a legit project thread with dates, mileage, pics, etc. which I've never done before. So allow myself to reintroduce...myself :hi
Details below... :roundel

And now, here begins the actual project thread, I'll update with pics when I get some time. As you can see some of the items down the list are forward looking, which I've either got appt's set up for or have items in the mail and know when they'll be arriving and when I'll be doing the work. Basically I just don't want to forget anything, and I can always edit it later

Welcome back! I too sold my last ZHP ('05 silver gray coupe) last summer and picked up a new one two weeks ago ('04 imola Sedan). So I know the feeling. And the second time, I feel like a know more... or will come to know more over time as I get more confident for DIY projects. Like a 2nd child...you know the 2nd time around :)
Yours looks great. I love the silver with black trim. A classic. Enjoy!

Sure seems like it, and we all know why. My first ZHP was a straight unicorn, I didn't know what I had. When I sold it I wanted to get out of the payment and get an SUV, if only I had known. Thank you

Haha I know!! I think about that every time I post, but I don't have a good pic of the new whip yet. Too rainy and dirty up here right now, I'll get one up soon

Is there any better sight when you get home from a hard days work that this??? I think not. Especially when the tracking for some of these items was suspect at best, guess that's what you get for ordering little things off eBay from China though. Can you say, another busy weekend?!

To add to that, I was going through the glove box today while waiting at the DEQ, and I came across the original window sticker! And in pristine condition. Pretty cool, except I feel as if I may have the lowest optioned ZHP ever built...

Here are some pics from my HUGE project weekend. Unfortunately most of it was spent cannibalizing parts from my 2001 to either sell or transfer over to my ZHP, which was quite the labor intensive job. I pulled every aftermarket item off except for the K&N CAI, since I've now got a nice shiny BMW Perf intake :) I was finally able to get to the ZHP projects late Sunday night, and all day Monday. I also had to replace the belt tensioner and a cooling sensor on my gf's E90 328i. So yeah, busy weekend, my hands and back are still feeling it...

My gorgeous, newly wrapped, ///M stitched, perforated leather steering wheel. Bought the core from a Mafia member (actually an M3 wheel), then sent it away to have it beautified. Thanks to Curves for the recommendation, I completely pinched his design! And this company's work is excellent, very happy with it

Brake calipers & hubs were wire brushed, shot with brake cleaner, then painted a metallic charcoal. I prefer my brakes to disappear behind the wheels, so I went with a really nice, but subtle color (pics are actually from when I did my 2001 330i, because I forgot to take pics of the ZHP process. The start to finish was exactly the same though, except the ZHP brakes looked even worse, lots of rust)

Yeah, they don't get it, and I don't expect them to, it's cool. I actually planned the purchase of my ZHP around the color combo, just so I could swap body parts and such. That and I love TS. I swapped over the front bumper w/ yellow fogs, H&R sway bar, TMS pulleys, wheels/tires and I'll be pulling off the roof spoiler this weekend and putting in on the ZHP.
You really went to work! What did you do for the DISA, the GAS rebuild kit?
Man, I really did, so much fun though. I miss this stuff! Now I remember why I used to get a "new" car every year. No GAS rebuilt kit, car only has barely 94k on it. I just sprayed it down with some CRC throttle body cleaner, wiped it clean, checked it's function by spinning the flap and plugging the hole, the releasing. And the new gasket of course. It and the ICV both were in great condition, way better than my 2001 or my last ZHP with 83k on it.

I've had a couple things hanging around my garage for a couple weeks now that I'm debating putting on, haven't decided yet...
I picked up these M3 mirrors from a guy on the ZHP fb page, was planning to tackle that daunting DIY when I get time. Couple things though, does anyone know if when I install these, will the mirrors still have all the OEM functions of my current ZHP mirrors? Meaning tilt down in reverse and defrost?

Also, I bought an ugly set of wood trim from a Mafia member and I wrapped it in a pretty sweet brushed satin black wrap. it actually came out really good, first time ever wrapping anything. I love my black cube trim, but... Thoughts?

Congrats on getting the OEM M3 side mirrors. To keep all the OE functionality of the side mirrors, you will have to transfer the OE mirror motors from your OE side mirrors to your new OEM M3 side mirrors. There is a DIY on this forum [emoji1419][emoji1360]

Pretty easy install for the boot, hit the old boot with a heat gun and it pulled right off the plastic trim. I didn't get this one lined up exactly how I wanted, it's slightly off, but I'm sure none of my passengers will notice (I also cleaned up that front corner once it was dry, there's a tiny bit of glue in the pic)

I also happened to sell my 2001 330i this weekend! Amazingly quick sale, only had it posted for 3 days, sold it to the first caller. I had it up for $6500, which I knew was a bit cheeky, but hey...don't ask don't get! I ended up taking $5700, which I'm totally happy with, and is probably what that car is worth. My absolute bottom line was $5k, so I'm all good, damn good weekend.
Funny thing was, the guy and his uncle pulled up in a Titanium Silver 2004 ZHP...literally identical to my new ZHP, and nearly identical to my '01 330i. So there were 3 silver 330i's out in front of my house, my neighbors surely think I'm nuts. His was TSS supercharged though, pretty nice rig
Here's a few pics of her last hours in my possession. Slightly bittersweet, but then I got into my ZHP...

Got my windows tinted today at Highline Customs, 25% tint all around. Legal tint in OR is 35%, but it's barely even worth it to tint that little. Results are excellent, price was very fair ($225), plus they have wifi and a TV tuned to Velocity in their waiting room. Just wish I didn't have to wait a week to roll them down
Here are a couple pics with the new tint job, as if no one has ever seen tinted windows before :) Pics also show the car as it sits today with all of the mods I've been doing over the past couple weeks. This is taken during a quick sunbreak, please excuse the dirty car (and Cali plates), it's been pouring rain nonstop for days.

Thank you! I love the look of it, so clean! I got it from ECS Tuning, it was only $60, link below. Then I carefully applied the ///M stripe stickers myself, tedious work, but well worth the final product

Good stuff as always! I'm impressed you sold your old 330i so quick. At least it's going to another BMW owner!
You'll definitely have to post some more pics once the weather gets better (I heard it snowed again). Post some of the rear window spoiler, I want to see what that looks like. Front grille looks good as well, you have the same ///M sticker placement.
Highline Customs are who did my tinting as well, they did good work. I went 35% (actually higher I think, 38% so it works out to 35% with the window glass itself) but I never want it that dark.

Man me too! I wish every car transaction went that smoothly. And you know I'll be posting a ton more pics once I get a chance to take some good ones, but from the looks of the forecast, it's gonna be a while. Right now the roof spoiler is kinda hanging on for dear life, I reused the same 3M adhesive as was originally on my old car. At first I just set it on my ZHP for fun, then realized there's actually a good bit of stickum left, so I hit it with a heat gun and stuck it on. I need to get some new tape and do it up right though, passenger side corner is not fully attached, then pics.
I had the front windows in my Jeep done at 35%, and it was almost not even noticeable. I figure if I'm paying for it, I'm going to make it functional and go a bit darker. Right now it's the same shade as my 2001, which is perfect, and I can see at night just fine.

Only crappy part was, he had to drill holes in my door jams to do it. Back when PDR was in it's infancy (~20 years ago), I worked at a local dealership as a lot attendant, and I saw a guy do it. And I swear he went in through the tail light for a dent on the rear quarter, which is how I assumed this would work. Maybe this guy took the easy route? Hard to say, he told me this is how it's done for the dents I had. He put some little caps over the holes, and gave me a couple extras, so it doesn't look terrible. I'm sure no one would ever even know that what they are, but I do. I'm going to paint and clear a few caps and stick them on, they should be nearly invisible then

Just out of curiosity, I have had a few dents done, but never multiple dents at one time. The last dent I had done was $240 with cash and was located just at the rear fender lip and rear bumper from where my son backed into a car. He couldn't put a rod through anywhere so he used the suction cup method and adhesive with a dent puller type device. The used a small hammer and a Teflon type device to take down any high points. How much did these multiple dent repairs run as my son has several in his car we need taken out.

No tax here in OR. $21 for DEQ/emissions and VIN inspection, then $194 for title transfer and registration...boom. I was number 119 and they were on 80 when I walked in, not great

I did, stuck with the good ol' tree. I too wanted the Pacific Wonderland plate, just not willing to cough up $100 for it. I mean, I only use the rear plate anyhow, so $100 for one plate? Nope. Posted a pic in my earlier post

Here in South Cackalacky, we pay a yearly property tax on anything with a registration. It's not that bad on our older cars... I think we paid around $550 for the e46 the 135 and the Prelude... It can get quite expensive for new cars and boats. Interestingly, they charge property tax on the boat and motor if it's an outboard.

It was more of me not wanting to drop another hundo really, $200 sounded much better than $300 at the time. I can always go back and get them if I really want them. Not a big deal to me. Plus I like the standard tree/mountain plates. I added up all of my car receipts last night, and it's almost sickening how much I've spent, and I've only owned the car for 3 weeks! And that amount doesn't even include my plane ticket or gas/food on the way home...

Yikes, sounds like you guys get broke off! I feel like most of the country is like that though, lot's of taxes, OR is pretty chill with tax, unless you own a home in Multnomah County, then you have huge taxes. I know in WA the tax is based on the cost and type of vehicle, my dad pays crazy money to register his cars. And I think they have to do it every year as well, it's every two years down here.

I usually never look either, but I was curious this time as someone asked me how much I already spent on parts and such. Next time I'll just let them receipts sleep... What's crazy is, I even avoided costs on most of the standard maint items I do when I buy a car, since the PO had already done them. Filters, fluids, plugs, bushings, cooling system, etc. I bought a fuel filter, that's a bout it for standard maint cost. Which is a good thing

Quick update just to keep on the timeline aspect of things. I've been a busy man, driving my ass off for parts that I'm not sure I'll even use at this point haha. Oh well, thrill of the hunt I guess...
3/11/17 - Quick trip to Seattle to see my dad and pick up a set of silver cube trim, from what turned out to be some shady Russian fella. Trim was not as advertised, not surprisingly. I also purchased a couple trim pcs off eBay as well, in anticipation of said condition assumption. The part I'm so upset about is that I thought the dinged up trim pcs were the front doors, which is what I bought off eBay along with the stereo trim piece, however they were actually the rears. So yeah, that sucks... Now I've got 4 good front trims, 2 bad rears, and a stereo trim where the spike and plastic clip on the left side is completely gone, and there is a piece of sticky Velcro in it's place. Can't make this stuff up. Anyone have two rear door trim pcs for sale/trade for fronts? :facepalm
3/16/17 - Received M3 dead pedal purchased off eBay, waiting to install
3/18/17 - Backordered Umnitza Orion V2 angel eyes arrived, will wait to install these until I do the burnt bowls retrofit. At which time I'll also be installing new lenses w/ gaskets & 6k bulbs, all parts waiting in my garage
3/18/17 - Departed on a 7 hour journey to Idaho to buy a complete NB interior, which I am now the "proud" owner of. The drive was loooong, transaction was super shady for multiple reasons, and the condition wasn't quite as advertised here as well. I'll take my time cleaning it very thoroughly (seat rails, plastics, leather), then conditioning the leather a couple times. I'll see how it turns out and go from there. Current black int in my car is near mint, so as much as I've wanted NB interior, end result condition will determine if I install it or not.
3/21/17 - Purchased a mint set of E46 ///M door sills off eBay, paid too much, should be here in a couple weeks
Making a 5 hour trip up to Bellingham, WA this weekend for my grandfather's funeral, so yet another weekend full of driving where I will not get to relax, or work on my car.
I'm out of breath, energy, and my wallet hurts...toodles for now

Sorry in advance for the long story, but let me just start from the very beginning. The below thread is where this entire meal was cooked up…
http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?19805-Members-near-Fruitland-Idaho
A fellow member from MN was looking to buy the rear folding seat from this guy in Ontario, OR, and was looking for a “local” party to do the deal. I thought, shoot I could score a NB interior at a decent price out of this deal, you’ve got my attention. Keep in mind Fruitland, ID/Ontario, OR (border towns ~hour west of Boise) are ~375 miles from me, a boring 7 hour drive I’d never made, through baron farm lands and a snowy mountain pass. At the time the idea was pretty farfetched and unrealistic; all I have is my ZHP, how would I transport the interior pieces, when would I have time, etc.? But somehow I was able to put everything together and now it was a reality.
The seller was relatively responsive to my texts, he sent me all of the pics I asked for, interior appeared to be in decent shape, not great, but decent enough. KTS317 had already told me the price the guy was asking, so when the seller and I talked price and he threw out a huge number I was like, F this guy. I let him know I knew the price he had already offered up on facebook to “anyone willing to come get it”. Didn’t hear back from him till the next day. At which point he then even lowered that price, which I probably would’ve paid, but out of general principle, condition of the int and cost for me to go get it I went even lower and told him that was my final offer, take it or leave it. Didn’t hear back for another day. He then responds, f*ck it, it’s a deal. I believe that was on Monday. So I made all of my arrangements final, I secured an SUV and a place to stay for that coming weekend, everything was lining up perfectly. Texted him on Thursday to make sure that we were still all good and that he’d have everything ready for me when I got there. He replied saying that he wouldn’t have time to pull the interior out, but I could do it myself when I got there, which was NOT the deal. Naturally I was pissed, we went back and forth, and then he told me if I wanted to come the following weekend that he would remove it, and he’d do it “nicely”. Oh? WTF does that mean?! I began to worry that now he was just going to rip everything out and it would be ruined, then he stopped responding. Texted him a few times on Friday, he finally responded, said he’d found some help and it would be done by the time I got there on Sat. I was a bit uneasy, but the wheels were in motion and I was going regardless at this point.
Got up early on Sat and my buddy & I made the drive, which was pretty boring and shitty due to pouring rain nearly the entire drive. Seller keeps asking when I’m going to arrive, I keep telling him between 5-6pm. We finally get into town about 6:15, I text him and he says he left because I was late and he had stuff to do. I’m sorry…WHAT?!? I just drove 7+ hours and you F’n left?! Now, undenounced to me we had actually gone through a time zone and it was actually an hour later than I thought, so my bad there, but my phone hadn’t updated I’m assuming since we were in the mountains. Regardless, no call, he just leaves. I tell him we are 3 miles out from his house and he says he’ll come back, cool. As we get closer to the pickup address, the area is progressively getting much “different” the further we drive. Now, we’re in the straight country ghetto. We finally get to the destination (hoping we’re at the wrong place), and it is the most disgusting trailer park I’ve ever seen in my life. I’m talking, bad, I was legitimately nervous. We roll through, two clean cut white boys in a newer Land Rover, we felt like a parade float. Potholed dirt road, folks coming out of their trailers, dogs barking, half naked kids running & screaming across the road, broken down shit everywhere, etc, really not great. We find trailer 41, and I see the car under a tarp off to the side, my buddy says…welp, this must be the place! We get out and start folding down the seats and getting things ready, all the while we are clearly the center of attention. Dude finally shows up like 15 mins later, blows around the bend in a brand new black lifted 4 Runner, big wheels/tires, bumpin music, dealer plates still on it. I’m thinking, this doesn’t really fit the profile, but okay. So him and his boys pour out, he tells me the interior is stuffed in the cab of this busted ass primered S-10 pickup parked behind the BMW, front seats are still sitting in the BMW, awesome. Go to grab the front seats and I quickly realize it’s a 330xi, not a ZHP, excellent. We pull everything out, I inspect all pieces as thoroughly as I can with him telling me it’s all there and good. I notice a few issues not disclosed prior; broken tabs, a big stain, couple other little things. To which he says, oh it was like that when we pulled it out. Of course it was. For a few mins I debated walking away, I really did. I handed him the chedda, we shook hands and my buddy & I packed up everything while they just watched us, then we went directly to the local watering hole…which is another story all together :) So with gas, food & drink for the both of us, I’m in it for his original facebook post asking price. More than I wanted to pay, but I should still be in the green if I end up selling it. We’ll see how it looks after I clean it up, I’m hoping for magic.
Story told on paper may or may not sound all that bad to you guys, but let me tell you to experience this all from beginning to end was unlike any other transaction I’ve ever had. Learned a few valuable lessons, and will never travel for car parts again, especially to an uber suspect trailer park in the ghetto of the farmlands…

Crazy story to read this morning lol, glad it worked out. I'm pretty active on Craigslist, but the first thing I do when I have the address is Google maps/street view. I've backed out of one or two deals after looking that info up, not worth the discount.

It was surely an experience that I won't soon forget... The drive home was pretty nice though, we had great weather and the miles seemed to just click off. We stopped in Hood River for a late lunch, which then turned into brewery hopping and eventually an even later dinner haha.
For those not familiar, heading east on Hwy 84, the Columbia Gorge is a beautiful drive complete with tons of waterfalls, rolling hills and the Columbia River by your side. Until you hit the Tri-Cities area, which was almost our halfway point, after that it's farmland nothingness for a couple hundred miles. But the pouring rain ruined our drive out, we were lucky for the nice weather on our return trip.

Finally had some time this weekend to tinker in the garage a little bit, got a few things knocked off my list.
I bought an M3 dead pedal off eBay and tried to install it over the weekend, however to my surprise it did not fit. I swear I've seen these in sedans before?? At any rate, guess I now have a M3 dead pedal for sale :(

I recently picked up a new lower trim piece for the steering wheel from a member, mine had some scratches on it that bothered me, and it just didn't go with my new wheel. Oddly the trim didn't have the same mounting setup as the one on the car, to mount it to the upper piece with the buttons, so I had to do a light modification but it all worked out perfectly. Old one on top, new one on bottom
https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2925/33026249183_2341cf016d_b.jpg
I also took a Mr Clean sponge to the top trim piece to flatten it out a bit, looks much better and almost all uniform
https://c1.staticflickr.com/4/3940/33027893353_0b18e32ab3_b.jpg
I finally got all of my lighting straightened out, installed my Orion V2 angel eyes from Umnitza, new headlight lenses w/ gaskets and some 6k bulbs. It's amazing what a set of new lenses will do to the car, they make such a noticeable difference, very happy with the way things turned out. The 6k bulbs look nice even with my severely burnt bowls, which I will be tackling soon.
Angel eye install went super smooth. I did have to Dremmel off one of the non functional tabs on the black plastic inner headlight housing, as it was pressed firmly up against the high beam angel eye ring and could be an issue with the auto leveling.

The M3 dead pedal will definitely fit in the sedan -- it just takes some convincing. Not sure why you would do it with the matching dead pedal there, though?
The dead pedal from the M3 will only fit the coupes. For sedan fitment, there is a specific pedal https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-bmw-parts/m-aluminum-dead-pedal-black/51437902389/

Oi.
The previous owner of my ZHP sedan had tried to install an M3 dead pedal and it was all jacked up. I went back and got it to fit right, so I guess it was this part and not actually from an M3. Good spot!

Only reason I know this is because I bought an M3 pedal from ebay for dirt cheap. It didn't fit and i was not wanting to modify it. Found the correct part and it fit like a glove.
Still absurd amount of money for some plastic. But I guess cause of ///M tax

I just like to look of the M3 dead pedal, plus it's the entire trim piece unit. I think the contrast of the M pedals to the M3 dead pedal would look good, but I could be wrong

I've always gotten all of my lighting through Umnitza, they're angel eyes are the best/brightest on the market IMO. I'm not a big fan of Khoalty personally, but decided that lenses were lenses and they had the best price.

That's my main concern, the condensation inside. It's going to start raining again tomorrow so we'll see how it goes. The lenses seemed to snap into place way too easily, leaving me to wonder how well they are sealed. Usually I've got to really push the OEM ones back on, and even with the old gasket.

FINALLY got my grubby little hands on the NB interior that I bought & picked up in Idaho like 1.5 months ago. It's been living in my buddy's Land Rover ever since we got back. He doesn't live super close, plus he's a bit flakey, so it's taken some time... I looked over it pretty good when I picked it up, but I was really able to go over it with a fine toothed comb in my garage with some decent lighting. It's not mint, and a couple areas could use some love, but overall it's solid. It was pretty dirty, I was at it with a few wet rags and a Mr Clean magic eraser for quite a while. Got it cleaned up pretty good though, and it looks decent now. Even though there was no heat or sunlight available, I decided to hit it with some Leatherique to start the healing process. Can't hurt it I figured. Here's a few pics from the afternoon

For the drivers seat (actually probably both front seats) I thought I might just dye the entire thing, it's probably not going to come back to life enough for how I want it to look. The bolster is a bit worn as you can see from the pics. Although it's much darker and pronounced with the Leatherique on it, doesn't look that bad when dry. I found this place that sells true color matched NB dye, price seems reasonable to give it a shot.

Wiped them down with a damp microfiber towel afterwards and the results speak for themselves. The pics don't really do them justice, they look awesome in person. Gracias senor! Yessir stock suspension all around (as far as I know, should be factory OEM). Car was completely unmolested when I bought it in Feb, but surprisingly it still rides great for stock shocks. Debating putting some H&R Sport springs on the front, it still sits just a hair too high for me, but it's not an eyesore.

i felt the same way with my m3 seats, they were mint and the NB interior was not. Find yourself a good upholstery person that can refinish the seats wit ha nice waterbased dye that color matches on the fly. will make them good as new. my guy filled in light cracks and they look good as new.

I looked into having an upholstery shop refinish the seats, the drivers seat at the very least, and it's not cheap. They wanted around what I paid for the entire interior to refinish the driver's seat alone. So I found a place online where I can get true color matched NB dye, and then do it myself. My dad has an airbrush so I'm thinking I might go that route. I mean, for $25 a bottle it's a steal.

You're right, usually they don't last forever, but at this price point it just makes sense to try it out. Plus, it's all in the prep work, if you prep the material correctly and take your time with the dye job, that usually = results. I'm not going to spend $800-$1000 to get 2 newly upholstered front seats, I can buy an entire mint NB interior for that money. I went ahead and got the larger 16oz bottle size of the dye, it'll be here in a week. So I'll do both fronts, and have some left over for touch ups when/if I need it. I can't keep frivolously hemorrhaging $$ on this dang car, so for me, $45 is a better deal than $1k. Even if I have to do some touch up work a few years down the road, gives me a project :)

I too installed the ///M door sills this weekend. Its quite an awesome upgrade over the stock ones, dont you think?
Also curious, where did you buy your yellow fog assemblies from? I am thinking of getting those myself...
If I remember correctly, Jeff's are clear lenses, probably E46 M3 ones, with 3M yellow film over them.
I bought a used set of yellow fog light assemblies from 704sw that I plan to install when I get home. I believe they are these: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ziza-parts/yellow-fog-light-set/010290ziz01a~ziz/

Oh nice! I concur, I love them. It's funny because I never really noticed how chrome the stock ones were until I pulled them off.
Curves is correct, they are actually the OEM clear fogs from my '01 sport that I just sold, with yellow 3M film over them. The bumper that came on my current ZHP was pretty trashed, and since the ZHP bumper I had on my '01 Sport was in great shape, I just swapped the entire bumper assembly over to my current ZHP, fog lights & all. But if I was going to get some, I'd get these https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ziza-parts/yellow-fog-light-set/010290ziz01a~ziz/ (same ones as William has below)

For Father's Day weekend I decided to shoot up to Seattle to visit my dad, and put him to work! Below is the small list of things we completed
98,700 mi
Transmission flush w/ Redline MT/90 (2 quarts)
CDV delete & clutch bled w/ ATE fluid
Roof spoiler fitted and adhered
Tire pressure @ 35 lbs F/R
NB interior dye test
Chevron 65740 Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner - 20 oz.
First up was the tranny flush. I've had some friction getting into 1st & 2nd recently, so I was hoping this would help. I drained the fluid and got just over a quart of some nasty black stuff out, no chunks of anything, but it definitely needed to be flushed. I pumped in just under 2 quarts of Redline MT/90 fluid and sealed her back up. I didn't get new drain plugs or gaskets, no leaks. I can definitely tell the difference after the fluid flush, shifts are much smoother and quieter.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4282/35370700226_810a54bb27_b.jpg
CDV delete was next...good god this was awful. Everything I've ever read or heard said this was the easiest mod ever, and in essence it should be, but it fought me the whole way. I was COVERED in brake/clutch fluid after this. I didn't pinch any lines because I felt like it would crush them. I got it off easy enough, but it took me forever to get them screwed back together after I removed the CDV, draining out all of the fluid. After which we bled the slave cylinder, which was easy enough but since so much fluid had drained out it took us quite a while before we even got any pedal feel back. Now the pedal feel is completely different, it engaged right off the floor and felt a bit lazy and sloppy, whereas before there was resistance from top to bottom. By the time I got home from Seattle (~185 miles) it actually felt pretty good, and the release point had relaxed as well. I didn't put the little clip back on, because I was having so much trouble getting it back together. Plus it really doesn't do much of anything
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4250/35370700776_bfd194f313_b.jpg
I've had the roof spoiler on the car for a while now, but it's never fit perfect, the contour is slightly off that of the window/roof line. So we pulled it off and removed all 3 layers of 3M tape. Then I used a heat gun and tried to bend it over my knee to make it fit perfect, and it actually worked! I went a little too far the first time and kinked it a little bit, but fixed that and now the radius matches the window perfectly. I used some 3M tape in the outer channel, and windshield adhesive in the main center channel. After it was tacky we stuck it in place carefully and taped it down to sit overnight. Now...that thing is on there! And it looks perfect, very happy

I've had a NB interior sitting in my garage for months now so I decided to finally get on the ball. I bought some dye from LeatherWorld so we decided to give it a try on a small section of the rear seat. We tried an airbrush, that looked terrible. So we moved to a standard kitchen sponge and then a rag, but both were a bit swirly. We finally ended up using a very fine detail sponge and blotted it on then hit it with a heat gun, that worked excellent. Very tedious and time consuming, but it had the best results far and away. We did about 3-4 coats, this piece had a pretty nasty watermark & stain on it which covered up way better than expected. Can you tell where the stain was?? Next up is the two fronts, pretty excited for how they'll look!

Checked my tire pressure and they were ~31 lbs all around, which I thought was low. I've got an 18x8.5 squared setup with Conti DWS06, I set the pressure to 35 lbs all around. We'll see how they wear. Also tossed another bottle of fuel injector cleaner in the tank, the last one I did seemed to help. I went with Chevron Techron Concentrate Plus Fuel System Cleaner, it was easy to find and in the top 5 cleaners on all the reviews I looked at. Since this car had been sitting so long before I bought it I feel like the fuel system is still a bit gunked up. I probably should pull the fuel pump and injectors and clean/test them, but that seems like a big job which I don't feel like doing

A couple days late on the post, but the old girl turned 100k miles over the weekend :( And after weeks of watching the odometer so closely, I just barely missed it!! I pulled into my garage, looked down and was like, F!!!! My gf looked at me like, what the hell is wrong with you?! She doesn't understand that pics of ones ZHP turning 100k are a once in a lifetime event, like a full solar eclipse.

Earlier that day, local member William (BMWcurves) and I finally met up for the first time, which was really cool. We talked about and drove each others cars, then had a nice little photoshoot in a big ass cemetery, pretty standard really. His car is pristine. With ~45k less miles than mine and that M3 interior he's got, it was a pretty nice drive. Here's a few pics I snapped, because pics.

It was great getting to meet Jeff in person.
His car is sitting pretty right now, especially for 100k miles. Driving his car, everything was tight, felt every bit as quick as mine, and certainly looked good (we share similar tastes apparently with yellow fogs, ///M stripe on the grille, same steering wheel, etc.). He's thinking of swapping out his interior for his Natural Brown interior that he's put together, but I had the same reservation he did when I put in my M3 interior: he'd be swapping out a practically flawless interior. It looks practically as good as my stock interior, really impressive.
BTW, met up with that guy that had the accident yesterday to sell him my sister's 330Xi parts. Nice guy, picked up on my car being a ZHP really quick. I had to run so I couldn't talk much but he seems to love the E46 platform.
EDIT: I'm just noticing you are running around without a front plate. Had any issues with that? I got enough tickets driving my father's Miata without a front plate that I just decided to keep mine on when I got it. Contemplating getting a tow hook license plate bracket though...

We definitely share the same tastes, including stock ride heights haha. Watch out for when I get a set of concave 18" Arc8's! I forgot to mention your TSE3 exhaust, man that thing sounds good! Made me actually get online just to see what was out there and the costs...I then quickly shut my laptop. Also, I need that UUC SSK, the throw was so short and crisp! Luckily my birthday is coming up...

I can't stand front plates, and I've never run one. I've run no front plate on all 4 of my BMW's and my last 3 Grand Cherokees. Never had an issue or ticket for it...actually one time I did. I got a parking ticket in NW and along with that was a front plate ticket. But that's pretty ticky tacky, and more of a "while I'm here" kind of citation. Surprised he didn't get me for my tint while he was at it. I honestly think it depends on the car, cops cut breaks for nicer cars. At least that's my opinion.

Definitely. Like you, I would love for my ARC8s had more concave to them, but I wanted to have nothing to do with rolling fenders and other work associated with it. And yeah, forget buying an exhaust new, the performance-gain-to-cost ratio is slightly below lighting the cash equivalent on fire.
For sure look into an SSK. I justified it by the knowledge that I shift hundreds of times a day, why not make one of the most tactile parts of the car feel just how I want it?
No way! Did you mention that we had a degrees of Kevin Bacon thing going on with him?
Yeah, he was very nice. I think he's still interested in your front sway bar haha.

Portland proper is really bad about front plate and parking violations. I got dinged twice for lack of a front plate, and their parking people are little tyrants with what power they do have. I just wish my front license plate bracket weren't drilled into the bumper :facepalm

I was really happy when I moved down here to SC and found out there is no front plate. I was lucky in that my car came with the OEM front license plate holder and it's a sedan...no screw holes in the front!

I FINALLY installed the M3 mirrors I bought like a year ago, after sending them to Shawn to do the motor conversion like 6 months ago :) The passenger side install was a bit tricky, as it was the first one I did. Realized that I really didn't need to cut as much of the foam insert out, and the holes weren't drilled exact the first time, but I tossed on some bigger washers and ended up making it fit really nice. Driver's side went much smoother, until I realized that one of the mirror holes was either stripped or not threaded enough, so I had to tap it out and find a larger bolt, but it worked out great in the end. I also picked up some new glass from Khoalty which are the blind spot mirrors. At first I was a little suspect, but after driving it for a while they're actually really cool. The only thing is the magnification isn't like stock, so everything looks really far away. But they have a nice bluish tint and I did notice they also cut down on headlight glare. All in all I couldn't be happier, personally the car looks completely different to me, I love it.

My understanding is we have the same type of motor plate fabrication as sedan guys, but for coupes the housings are a direct fitment. I bought some lexan to fab up the motors, I was just dragging ass ordering clear vinyl to wrap the mirrors (I painted mine myself—they look quite good, but I’m wrapping because I’m not so sure about the durability of rattle can paint).

I finally did it...I pulled the trigger on a new Bluetooth/NAV/touchscreen head unit! I went with the Xtrons PB7646BAP as it seems to have gotten the best reviews here on the forum, and on Amazon. Pretty excited, it's been a while since I've given the old girl any love. Along with the head unit I of course had to buy the mounting bracket ($150) and the 90 degree antenna cable for correct fitment. So I'm all in for just under $450, which was more then I wanted to spend, but whatev. If that damn bracket was cheaper that would've helped out a bit. Details to come on the install and functionality. I won't be writing any detailed write-ups or technical analysis, because frankly I know nothing about electronics, but I can at least provide a thumbs up or down. Stay tuned...

Yessir, that's it. The head unit comes with all of the wiring and connectors needed to be plug & play. The bracket is the killer though, $150 for a dang bracket?! I bet you can go to a wrecking yard and pull one out of an M3 to ZHP w/ Nav though for much cheaper. link below with a full writeup and info on this particular unit. Good stuff

Xtrons PB7646BAP install
All in all the install went super smooth, and I couldn't be happier with the results! The unit functions great and the fitment is excellent. One thing I will say is make sure you connect the CANBUS box to the correct wiring harness!! The kit comes with two main harnesses, then a bunch of small RCA/USB connections for god knows what. It's clear that only one of the main harnesses will plug into your car, and on mine the CANBUS box was plugged into the other harness, so I assumed it was part of that one. Until I got everything installed and my steering wheel controls didn't work, and the buttons on the unit didn't illuminate. I went back and read BP's review and realized the error, and realized the CANBUS box plugs into either harness. So I pulled it all back out, plugged in the controller box and boom...it works perfect! The one difficult part of the install was where to hide all of the wires/harnesses, you'll have to get creative. And you must have the 90 degree antenna connector, it's crucial!
In BP's write-up he had two complaints, the buttons feeling mushy and the screen glare. I can attest to the screen glare, it's absurd, the unit is pretty hard to see in the daylight. All you see is the rear window reflection off the screen face. Great at night though. And they must've fixed the mushy button issue, because mine are great, nice solid click feeling when you press them. Feels great to me. Unit was packaged nicely, overall quality seems to be very good, I was pleasantly surprised.
I haven't had much time to play around with it as I've only driven the car a couple times since the install, but I'll toy with it in the coming weeks and report back. I need to play with the settings because I don't have a reverse camera, but the unit thinks I do, so every time I put it in reverse the music cuts out & the screen goes black. Gotta be a setting for that. Also, the "user manual"...is pure crap. It tells you nothing, so don't expect to get any direction from it.
If anyone knows where to get an anti glare screen please let me know!

Met up with William (BMWcurves) on Sunday and he was nice enough to lend me his GruppeM intake for the week to see how I like it. Debating picking one up, but I just can't justify the $$, so I wanted to see what the hubbub was about. I have the BMW Performance intake currenlty, which really offers no extra amount of "fun noise" over the stock intake. However that GruppeM, boy...it's intoxicating above 4k rpm! Not sure if it's really worth the money for the sound alone, but man it sounds good

Turns out I couldn't live without a GruppeM intake after all, so I bought one :) Shortly after I installed it however, my MAF was covered in oil and my car was running like crap. I pulled the intake off, took it completely apart...it was drenched in oil by the PO. there was also what appeared to be some sand mixed in with all the oil, pretty nasty really. So I cleaned it up and put it back together, good as new. I made sure to arrange all the hose clamps so the screws were all at the bottom for a nice clean look. I sprayed the MAF 3 separate times with MAF cleaner, drenched that thing until it was dripping out, letting it dry completely in between sprays. Put everything back together and the car runs as smooth as silk.

While I was in there I decided to toss in a new set of plugs (NGK BKR6EQUP 3199) as well, which turned out to be a great idea. The old ones were supposedly only a year old, put in by the PO right before I bought the car. But as you can see, they were done... Car is noticeably smoother at idle and throughout, also more responsive.

It's with a (still) heavy heart that I decided to close out this project thread... A month ago today my poor ZHP met it's match, at my hands, on a windy road in the forest. To quote Ferris Bueller, "I killed the car". Car is a total loss, which as you can see from the pics isn't any surprise to anyone. Needless to say it's been a rough month for me. I'm still dealing with my insurance, my personal recovery and other things surrounding the accident. But I'm ready to put it all behind me. The only silver lining is since my insurance company is basically refusing to value the $7k+ in aftermarket parts on 35 pages of receipts I've sent them, they've agreed to let me take off whatever I want as long as I replace it with the stock stuff. However everything in the engine bay is garbage, including the GruppeM intake I'd installed only 24 hours prior...

Damn dude. Sorry to hear about this. Glad you're [assumed] ok.
At the end of the day it's just a mix of metals, rubbers, and plastics. It can be replaced a lot easier than you, my friend.

So sorry about the accident. Thank goodness that deadfall tree was there to keep you from rolling to the bottom of that ravine.

Thanks for all the love and concern guys, much appreciated!! And yes, I'm fine, I walked away almost as if nothing happened...then I woke up the next morning and was nearly paralyzed haha. Adrenaline is some amazing stuff! I'm still dealing with a decent amount of shoulder & upper neck/back soreness. So I sucked it up and decided to go to PT, and so far it's helped a lot. I usually live in the gym, which I haven't been to in over a month now, so that's killing me more than anything, I've lost nearly 12 lbs from muscle atrophy in that time :( I'll be going to the wrecking yard on Monday to say my final goodbyes, and strip her naked of all her goodies. Keep an eye out my new project thread in the next few days, or don't haha! It's not a ZHP, but it's a decent replacement, stay tuned...

I was devastated when you sent me those photos, but glad to hear you made it out only a little worse for wear, physically. Definitely a tough loss after all that work you put into it, but like everyone else have already said, it's just a car.
Looking forward to whatever it is you've replaced it with.

Glad to hear you walked away man. I cannot stress enough the value of PT and eating enough for your recovery. Don't worry about gaining weight. If you've already lost 12lbs then you haven't been eating enough for your body to rebuild the damage. PT, plenty of food, and a loooot of sleep will go a long way to a quick and, more importantly, permanent recovery.
Take care of your body -- treat it like the only car you get for life!

Hmmm, really..? That's rather enticing actually. Where is the car located now? And in what condition?

You said it man. Maybe you should just give me one of your many M3 sedan/wagon projects :)

It still breaks my heart, every day. Soooo much work into that car, and the overall condition it was in, just makes me mad that I was so careless. But, oh well, nothing I can do about it now. I should have the new project thread up sometime this weekend :)

Actually I haven't changed my eating habits at all, which is why it's so odd that I've lost so much weight. I still eat 5-6 meals and average 225-250 grams of protein per day. Sleep however is still lacking, maybe 6 hours a night. Regardless, I'm on the train back to good health and getting better every day. Made it to the gym today for a lovely light workout, which was great yet sad at the same time haha. Thanks for your thoughts though!

It’s located outside Los Angeles and he has just put new suspension parts on it and refinished the wheels and some other stuff. He is only selling because he has too many cars. I asked for first dibs on it, but with me on diaylsis and going to college, I don’t have time for a second car.
