I'm in the middle of a rear subframe refresh and opened up the diff today while the guy doing the real work with the subframe was doing his thing. 28814 https://goo.gl/photos/SS5XkK7mtZdZSLRk8 for a video. Where would you fine mafiosos recommend I look for a lsd that will last until my wife forgets that this ever happened?

Location for procuring other than a junkyard off of a wrecked e46m?
AFAIK I can't just drop the whole diff assembly into the subframe of an non-m and Im far enough along in the refresh that I don't want to throw away that work (money).

As long as you ring gears and housing are in good shape, the folks at Mfactory or diffs online can rebuild it for you with your choice of LSD

You are correct. M3 Diff requires M3 Subframe to fit. Your swaybar, driveshaft will also be incompatible.

Is there any quantifiable reason to not go with a wavetrac? The warranty on it is mighty tempting. And how involved is adjusting the speedo going to be if I change the final drive? I have PA soft.

Also, I have a leak in my rear main seal, Ive not been driving the car much so it's difficult to say how significant the leak is: no puddles under the car. Is it worth it, while I'm already spending money on a diff that I wasn't planning on to go ahead and drop the trans, fix the leak and see if the clutch/flywheel is also fucked.

You don't have to do anything with the speedo calibration. It gets its data at the wheel sensor

Talk with Jonathan at http://thayermotorsports.com/ He was here in the DC area & is now in Ashland. I don't know if he works with E46s, but knows his stuff re: diffs.
