Thinking about registering my car at school which would mean a switch from Jersey to Florida plates.

Im thinking "Imola" is going to be the winner.

But all of the "M3 lol" and "AMG lol" type stuff made me think of "ZSP lol"

That would mean you could get away with no front plate...do it!

i was deciding between O4 ZHP and ZHPFTW for ohio and then shat a brick when the price was three times the price of a normal registration.

So I just renewed my crappy random letter/number plate

So many great ideas, and so much fun tyring to decide. I went with the low profile approach used by ZHPNSNV awhile ago.

I tried to get 6ZHP330 and 5ZHP330 though the CA registration system failed on both my orders during the final payment processing, then comes up and says plate is no longer available. I wonder if it is because they would be normally occurring in the random sequence used by the state?

For those not familiar, 1ABC234 is the standard CA numbering currently. Most of the new cars I see are 6V..... in my parts of northern California, so 6ZHP... is not close to entering the rotation yet.

Summary of others tried:
ZHP taken
+ZHP taken
330+ZHP taken
ZHP FTW is available

I ended up with this:

I figured I would just show a pic, but I dont think anyone cares enough for it to be a surprise. haha. I picked COOL ZHP :mafia(we are allowed a half space anywhere on the plate even with 7 characters).

Reason being: my old Turbo Z had 1COOLZX, so I thought I would keep the theme going.

Mine were 50 bucks with an renewal fee of 38 each year. I have already surrendered to the fact that I will be spending many dollars on frivolous items for this car....like a vanity plate :D

I have one a USC tag which is $25 on top of the reg tag fee. I could pay and additional $30 to personalize the 4 characters.

I've had my USC tag for about 6 years now....

One of my friends had an old 6 series that had VADER6 on it. When he picked up a ZHP he put VADERZ for those tags. To keep the nerd habit alive I have ZFALCON on mine. I enjoy the play of German's pronunciation of "the" and that it stands for the Z in ZHP. Also, the Millennium Falcon is baller.

damn, that's a long ass time to wait for a lic plate. i bought by car in 9/09, register it in may. in order:
KXXKKXK - the "getaway plate." saw this once when i was younger and my friends and i argued forever about what the actual order was, and it was a constant joke.
BMRELLI - last names norelli, got the nickname when i worked at chrysler
BMWMWM8 - check it in the mirror
DUCECPE - 2 seats FTW. friends all complained about having to get in/out of a coupe. now i only have to hear 'em bitch till i drive away!

i got em all on my wall (except for DUCECPE, still on car). if i can get hold of a camera ill snap a pic.

These are both vanity plates. Kinda. I've been wanting to put a retro Arizona plate on at least one of my cars for some time. These were issued through '95. My pair were originally issued in '89. If you have an older plate that was previously yours or in your family, you can move it to a current car. If not your own, no dice. But I had an idea. What if I buy an Ebay plate, that if it's old enough, the sequence is now out of the system and registerable as a vanity plate? Tested my theory and found that most of the older plate sequences indeed showed "available" when checking the DMV (errr MVD in AZ) site. Then I stumbled on these - actually 3 of them, in sequence, never put on a car (were probably the fronts, not required to display here). 2 of the 3 were "available". So I ponied up the $25 each and got "new" vanity plates with these sequences. Wham, slap on the old ones instead, and I'm totally legal. LOVE these plates, they're well-made, fresh as the day they were stamped down at Florence prison, have nice reflectorized numbering, and last forever - unlike the current ones which are all gradually delaminating. Plus it's cool to have 2 plates in sequence.

Love the idea on the AZ plates but I'm a little lost too. So, lets say you buy a set of plates on ebay, and verify that they are no longer in the system. You contact the DMW and request those plate letter/numbers combo as your vanity plate, then they send you a new set of plates with those same letters, but you put the old ebay ones on. Is that how it works?

Yep. That's what I got from it.

He just used the combo on the old plates and got new plates w/ that combo. But instead of using the new state issued ones, he used the old ones he already had.

Apparently I was not in the right mind that day as I put my standard plate number down wrong.

So instead of calling me on the number I provided on the app, or even shipping the plate to the address I provided, the SC DMV sent it to the plate owner of which I wrote down. After months of not receiving my plate, I called and they explained what had happened, or more like "Wha ha happ'n was"

I'm still happy however, this is my first Vanity plate ever.

By november?! Why does it take some states so long? I change mine every year, got them in like 8 days last month.

Tapped on a talk device

I was being facetious, but only slightly. I've never seen anything like this state. Just moved down here last year, thought it'd take an hour to re-title my car and get a new plate. WRONG. Kansas, and I don't know how they manage this, has a policy where if there is a lien on the car, they don't allow the bank to hold the title. The state does. So, when you move here, you have to go to your bank in your former state, and convince them to surrender title to the state of Kansas. That took 3 weeks. Their answer when you ask what if your bank won't do it? You're screwed.

Damn that is messed up. But it seems like a lot of states take a long time from what I've seen here, and heard from out of state friends. Maybe I'm just spoiled, Though it probably helps here that our state prison inmates make all license plates.

Only one person can get the E46 plate. Of course, there are some other combinations but I thought E46 is sweet and short.

So, I installed the "05 MIN" plates on my MINI some weeks ago. This Saturday, I attended a family function. My father-in-law and sister-in-law noticed my plates. He said: "What do you mean with 5 minutes ?" ... she said: "Are you always 5 minutes late ?"

I explained the plate means "2005 MINI Cooper" ... I thought I was clear, perhaps not. Anyways, I still like my plates.

Has anybody thought about getting knock-off european plates for the front bumper?

Just had a thought for those in states with front plate laws who like to skirt with the law! Be a little cute and install a european style plate with your same plate number on the skinny plate frame.
