As I'm sure everyone on this forum not living under a rock is aware, Slater is selling his estoril coupe. Whelp, I'm the buyer. I'll be flying up in mid/late January, meeting my friend (user ZHPizza) in Toronto, importing and then driving this unicorn back to North Carolina.
I grew up drooling over the E30 M3 and E36 M3. This became an obsession in high school because 2 lucky bastards drove them, one Dakar and one silver. The E36 was only 3 years out of production at the time, so it was incredibly enviable. The kid with the silver one came from a family with a 996 GT3 and E39 M5, so I just hated him in every way imaginable.
I've spent the last 4 years or so thinking my next car would be an E36 M3, and have been searching high and low for a well-kept Estoril and Dove coupe. But some part of me always knew the ZHP was the correct choice. Thus, I've been looking for both concurrently. I will always love the looks of the E36, but as they say: sometimes it's best not to meet our heroes.
Fast forward to last month when Nate and I went to look at an Imola coupe. I knew so much about the ZHP and had ridden in his Silbergrau sedan many times, but had never driven one. I was immediately hooked. He and I had exchanged plenty of links for cars for sale (never with much seriousness), but when I saw the Estoril coupe I was speechless. My favorite E36 color on the car I knew I was buying next. Sold.
