Also, welcome!

Thanks!

I bought the car in Austin, the previous owner had just recently bought it from what appears to be an estate sale in California.

It has 124k on the clock, 6spd, leather interior, and it is quite clean inside and out.

The front end is really jumpy on the freeway, especially compared to our E39. I am scheduled for new front tires and an alignment Monday, and while it is on the lift, I will inspect the front end for any loose bits.

The drivetrain has some clunk to it, although addmitedly I previously daily drove a honda so I have a little less finesse then what may be required?

Drivers side headlight is pretty yellowed and fogged. Interior pillers are getting ruffled, and there are a few scratches here and there.

Did not come with a spare, is that a ZHP thing or should I have had a donut in it?

Welcome! Love Alpine white.

Make sure you dig all the way down into the compartment...I was naive and thought the same thing when I first got mine because of the recession when you first lift the trunk liner flap looks like it should have a tire in it, but the spare is underneath that second layer. Bottom line, is there should be one unless it was used previously.

You can buy new A-pillars for the front and then just rip the fabric off the C-pillars. Looks virtually the same without the fabric and you don't see them all the time. Driveline clunk depending on the intensity is something to look into. Could be bushings, guibo, etc or just old BMW sounds.

Welcome, sir ! I live in Austin too. Please check this thread for pics from the pillars without fabric:

Pls post inside pics when possible.

We are really digging the Alpine White. Our E39 is black, so we almost have an Imperial-themed driveway ha!

I will look into it. Any common bushing replacements? Trans/diff mounts? Good source for new guibo? It could have just been my clutch engagment. I wasn't being to kind whenever I heard it. Not being really rough, but just a little jerky...

Thanks Fredo, I'm actually up in Copperas Cove, but I make it down to Austin a lot.

I have a little turbo awd car I like to take down LCR occasionally.

Welcome! good to see another white car! not too many of these on this forum.

Most common bushing failures are the rear Diff mount and the lower control arm bushings in the front... I'd check those first

Pillars are normal (unfortunately). I'd suggest peeling the c-pillars when it gets worse or bothers you. After you peel it you won't even notice. Same may go for a-pillars. Try tucking them in with a credit card?

Welcome! We have (had?) very similar cars.

I have always found my car to be 'jumpy', oversteer-prone compared to my previous experience. Getting tire inflation precisely in line helped more than a bit.

As to the clunk, it's remotely possible a previous owner installed an aftermarket LSD. I bought one, and now have this as an ongoing issue. The mfr. describes it in their literature as to be expected and inconsequential. I don't like it, personally, but...

NoVaPhotog got it right-on as regards the hidden spare. Since my car came with factory run-flats I expected to see nothing down there. Once I'd switched over to normal tires and tried to install the new wheel and tire I'd bought... I found out ;-)

Again... welcome!

The white with black interior is quite a classy combo... a shame it's been stolen :P

Ok, so I owe an update on the status of the jumpy-ness of the white car, the diff clunk, the "AWOL" spare tire, and details on the silver one.

I bought new tires for the front of the white one, and while it was up on the lift, it became apparent that the control arm bushings were bad. (Thanks again, Sockethead!!!)
I replaced both and now she handles like a dream. Pretty easy replacement, I bought Meyle bushings for $67 on Amazon Prime, and used starter fluid as a lube to slide the old ones off of the control arm. (I'm a bit light on any kind of liquid products because of the recent relocation...)

So both ZHP's have a light clunk in the back during SLOPPY shifting. So I think it's just sort of normal, but also possibly worn bushings? I read somewhere that they fixed the body/subframe tearing that used to happen on older E46's?

NoVaphotog hit it right on the money with the spares! I looked for one in the Silver one right away...

On to the Silver one:

2005 6-spd
Well maintained, owned by a BMW tech and was a trade-in prior to that. Zero leaks or hints of leaks anywhere!
1 door ding on drivers side
Mis-matching tire brands front to rear (bugs me)
Black leather interior is perfect except C-pillars. Even A-pillars are beautiful! (Shift knob is worn).
Recent front LCA bushings so the drive back was wonderful
Leather interior with a silver-cube trim (is this a thing too?)
133,000 miles
$8k

Congrats on having two ZHPs! It seems when you do something, you go all in! I have an '06 with grey leather plus silver cube trim. It's a thing indeed!

I have a black leather interior with silver cube. The car originally came with black cube but the original purchaser swapped it (I'm the second owner) so it must be a thing.
