So I'm going through quite a bit of oil on the regular, and I know a bad CCV is at least one of the culprits (sucking ferociously at the oil filler cap, isles poorly with cap off, whistles slightly, makes a groan/gasp sound when I shut the engine off). I'm in central Texas, where it doesn't usually get that cold, and I want to do the CCV delete in favor of a catch-can.

Anyways, I wondered if anyone could offer some perspective on the current choices. The prices seem to range from $30 for crappy eBay ones to $500 cans with all the whistles and bells. I've heard good things about the Radium can, are there any other good (not too expensive) ones worth looking at?

it's worth spending money on a proper design.

the cans from 42draftdesigns.com are very, very nice. they range from $130 to $235, however you will need to source hoses, etc (http://www.42draftdesigns.com/oil-catch-cans/oil-catch-cans/). also, this mishimoto catch can (https://www.amazon.com/Mishimoto-MMBCC-UNI-BK-Black-Baffled-Catch/dp/B00CJ6JHCK) looks very good as well.

i've looked at a LOT of catch cans, and the ones above are the best, in my opinion. they offer a good capacity, and good hose orientation (inlet on the bottom, outlet on top), with a proper maze/screening in between.

i have the 42draftdesigns 'stealth' oil catch can sitting on the shelf here, i was going to use it but it does not open and living in the north, where we have a greater chance of condensate forming in the cooler months, i am thinking of going with the 42draftdesigns 'ultimate' can, so that i can clean it fully. if you are interested in the stealth can, PM me.

also, i built a thread with some details on my current setup, here (pics on page 2): http://www.zhpmafia.com/forums/showthread.php?17175-combating-PCV-catch-can-freeze-ups-possible-solution

Yeah, have been checking out the 42draftdesigns cans as well. Might be overkill for what I need, but I've been checking out their "ultimate" can as well.

However, I might be interested in your stealth can..I'll PM you.

I'm likely to be going for a Radium Engineering can for my car.

I know a few guys who ran a radium Engineering catch can on their BRZ/GT-86. I saw one of them installed and it was pretty nice hardware. Was only $210 for the setup for the BRZ, seems to be a bit higher for the E46.

Is the empty battery compartment the go to spot to install a catch can?

Empty battery compartment? I'm likely going to install it on the ecu side since I'm rhd

Its that open area where the negative grounds out (where the jumper cable goes) in the engine compartment. It looks like there are mounts for a battery and if the battery wasnt in the trunk, it would be the logical spot for it to be. Didn't really know what to call that area:dunno

Ah right. I think that's where I'm referring to as well perhaps, cos there is a negative ground there for me, though it wouldn't fit a battery in in my case. Maybe you're referring to the drug bin?

Regardless I'm still deciding precisely where to mount my kit. Haven't bought it yet but still mapping it out
