Hi guys, my name is Dhar and I joined the ZHP community back in August of last year. Thank you Dane for letting me be part of the community. Ever since I bought the vehicle I have been wanting to say hi but just didn’t get a chance.

I always wanted to get in to an E46 BMW and this is my first E46 chassis BMW and I absolutely love it. Love it so much that I picked up another ZHP last week :)

I’ve been a BMW fan ever since my first test drive in a 97 E36 M3. I was completely blown away by the overall performance so I picked up a low mileage used 1997 E36 M3 CB/Blk Coupe with manual gearbox back in 1998. Since then I have owned quite a few BMW’s. This is what I currently have in my collection and I’m hoping I can add more in the future.
1988 E30 M3
2003 E46 330i ZHP
2004 E46 330Ci ZHP
2013 F10 535xDrive M Sport (Wifey’s)
2013 E92 M3 LPR Edition

I picked up this ZHP in August of 2015 from a dealer in Chicago. At the time I bought the vehicle, it had just 55,505 miles but it was in pretty bad shape for the mileage. Carfax report shows no accidents and I verified the miles calling the dealer in Chicago. It was previously a CPO vehicle and the vehicle had spent all its life in Chicago and was serviced at Fields BMW. The previous owner unfortunately did not take care of the vehicle. The vehicle was barely driven and I suspect it sat outside the whole time as it had some minor rust spots around the rocker panel area. It was traded in with some 17” Fox EVO wheels (Italian made) but they were bent as shit. The A and C pillar were sagging, window cowl was dried and cracked, brakes and suspension were completely shot, steering wheel looked like it was never cleaned, the starter was making some weird noise upon starting and the steering wheel would shake under braking.

Even with all these issues, I bought the vehicle as it had a lot going for it. I knew I can provide the car much needed attention and bring it back to its original glory. I purchased a third party warranty as I was not sure what else could be wrong with the vehicle and also as I am not a big DIYer. Over the last one year I have spent a lot of time and money and I am still have few things to take care of.
Here is a list of maintenance and cosmetic changes I have done to the car under my ownership.

Cosmetic:
A and C Pillar Trim
A Pillar trim inserts
Cup Holder
Driver side mirror
Passenger side euro mirror
Window Cowl
BMW Clear rear tail light set

M License plate

Maintenance:
Bilstein Sport Shocks
Shock bumps and mounts
H&R Sport Springs

Mann Micro Filter
NGK Plugs
Oil Change with Castrol 5W30 @ 62,543 miles

Oil Change with Castrol 5W30 @ 71,520 miles
Oil Change with Castrol 5W30 @ 80,218 miles

Navigation screen (warranty)

The vehicle is currently at Erhard BMW getting a new Disa Valve and navigation screen replaced under warranty.

Anyway, I’m sure you guys want to see the pictures so I’m going to shut up and let the pictures do the talking. Here are some before and after pics.

Welcome! You're BMW collection is quite nice. What do you think of the various cars in relation to one another?

Any pics of your other ZHP coupe you have (had?, it's not clear)?

Kudos for bringing a rough around the edges ZHP back to a better state.

Thanks man!

After owing 4 generations of 3 series BMW's, my favorite is the E46. The car just feel right. It's a complete package in my opinion. The steering is quick and direct, the chassis is tight. Now I haven't owned or driven a E46 M3 but if the ZHP is this good, can't imagine how the M3 would be.

The E92 M3 is all about the engine. The V8 clearly dominates. The sounds that V8 makes is just intoxicating. You just want to drive harder and harder. The high revving V8 picks up speed fast and keep on going. The handling is tight and direct. The car is smooth and it's very luxurious and it guzzles. The best i have got is 15 mpg and that's driving it very carefully which is very hard to do in this car. My car has a DCT and it's my first and I'm still not completely used to it. It's super quick and the downshifting is just outright fun. It's an awesome car and I love it but it's a little big for my taste.

The E30 M3 as you know needs no introduction. The car was built for a purpose. You just get in the car and drive and that’s it. It is direct, nimble and handles beautifully but compared to the newer generation M3's, the steering feels a bit light and the suspension is a bit soft. It doesn't have a lot of HP and torque but the handling and dynamics are there. And the best thing I love about the car is even before I had driven was the way it looks. I think it's the best looking M3 and E46 comes in next.

All I can say about the F10 is a beautiful and luxurious. The interior is beautifully appointed and it's got all the bells and whistles. The car feels light and the steering lacks the typical BMW feel but than it's with every new BMW. In sport mode, everything tightens up and transmission becomes more responsive but you can still feel the weight of the car. The car is heavy and you can feel it in the turns. The weight shifts as you are turning in and it is not very enjoyable. No wonder the new F10 M5 is not a benchmark anymore like the E39 was. It is a perfect family car and we love it.

After driving these latest offerings form BMW, I think I am going to stick with my older BMW's. I think the last true BMW was the E9x series.

Nice collection! Welcome, you'll like it around here.

Here are some quick shots of my other ZHP which I purchased couple of weeks back.

I know it's automatic but I couldn't let it go. It's a one owner low mileage car (63K miles) whom I personally know and he took real good care of it. The car has never seen snow as he used to drive a truck and the car was always serviced at the dealership. He wanted to move it quick because he wanted to get in to a SUV for his growing family and I just couldn't resist.

I know the auto trans is not as engaging as the 6 spd but in manual mode it's not bad and I love the alcantara/cloth interior.

That's a sharp ZHP coupe. Add a Sprint Booster, you will like the results.

Thanks!

yeah I thought about adding that. Should be a good mod. Right now I'm focusing on doing some maintenance work.

There is this grinding noise/feel coming from the front at low speed which I'm trying to figure out. Not sure if it's the wheel bearings or something else.
