Not sure what you mean by overlay? They are real carbon fiber with a fiberglass backside.

An overlay is when they take an original non CF piece and overlay it with CF. It's a common practice and if done right, it holds up well. I had a pair of splitters that were an overlay just like the pair you have, they held up very well. I still have them in my parts box.
