Long post here, but I tried to capture all the information I’d want to know when buying a used BMW. I know most of you already have a ZHP, but I figured to post it here anyway.

This was a real tough post to submit, but after 13+ years of daily driving an E46 it was time to move on to something different. I hope I don't regret this. The condition is outstanding inside & out and all maintenance is current.

Misc info -

3rd owner - purchased in October 2010
Clean title in hand/no accidents/non-smoker/no pets
OEM rubber floor mats - front, rear, & trunk
OEM homelink w/ rolling codes

Bimmian keyhole delete
Coby Wheel - OEM gray w/ ///M tri-stitch, about 10K miles/like-new condition
Michelin Pilot Super Sports - a little under 7K miles
2 spare sets of OEM wiper inserts (since discontinued by BMW)
Front plate delete strip is installed, but OEM plate mount will be included
I only have 1 key
Will include Dr. Colorchip touch up paint/Silver Gray Metallic

Maintenance history -

I'm not a DIY'er. All maintenance/repairs done by BMW Seattle (only exception is VCG - noted below) - I have every receipt since taking ownership in 2010. This car has been dealer maintained since new - the original owner paid for the extended maintenance plan (2 extra years beyond standard 4 year service plan) which was still valid for the 1st 2 months of my ownership.
51,565 miles - replaced thermostat, turn off DRL's
53,282 miles - replaced windshield washer pump, cooling system overhaul (water pump, upper & lower radiator hoses, radiator cap, temperature sensor, expansion tank, & thermostat), and power steering pressure and supply hoses
54,000 miles (approximately) - new front windshield/brand = Pilkington (original had multiple rock chips)
54,995 miles - oil change service
58,751 miles - VCG (performed by Strictly BMW in Bellevue WA, local independent shop)
61,149 miles - oil change service
63,000 miles (approximately) - FX-r projector retrofit + new Phillips 85122+ bulbs. Retrofit work done by Lightwerkz in NJ. Light output considerably better than stock, and of course no worries about burnt ZKW projector bowls.
65,112 miles - replaced FCAB's, oil level sensor, and fan clutch
65,232 miles - new Michelin PSS, front & rear, OEM sizes
67,339 miles - replaced serpentine belt tensioner, idler pulleys, and OFHG
68,261 miles - passenger airbag recall performed, replaced belt tensioner and pulley again (cold start squealing issues persisted, dealer replaced same belts from prior visit, which still did not resolve issue)
70,070 miles - engine oil service, replaced A/C belt & other belt (part # on receipt refers to serpentine, but that was already done twice). Essentially I replaced every belt which finally eliminated the cold start squealing issues.
70,200 miles (approximately) - new battery, Duralast 49-DL
70,070 miles - replaced front driver window regulator (by mistake, should have replaced passenger regulator)
70,685 miles - replaced front passenger window regulator, engine oil service
72,600 miles - current mileage (as of today, but it rarely gets driven)

Items to call out -

-67,339 miles – very slight leak at power steering pressure hose (apparently there are 2 of these, I replaced one of them at 53K miles). My SA and tech advised it’s not worth replacing at this time, and it’s not been called out in subsequent visits.
-Moonroof works, but is sometimes slow to close (common E46 problem area). Concerns confirmed by dealer but cannot specifically diagnose/fix without first pulling the roof apart. I don't use the moonroof so have not pursued this further
-Still waiting on driver's side airbag recall

Condition -

Overall condition is outstanding for an 11 year old vehicle. Some minor chips on the front end. No door dings. No curb rash on any of the wheels, though some have some peeling of the finish in places. The only item worth noting is some small indentations on the rear passenger wheel arch (noted in pics). It's very hard to notice. This is the only blemish worth noting on the exterior. Interior condition is outstanding as well. The silver-cube trim is pretty much new condition. The storage doors on the center console behind the shifter are scratch free - they look new.

FWIW I just bought a 2009 M3 with less miles and it's condition is not nearly as nice as this 2005 330i - the next owner will not be disappointed.

$11,800

Thanks for looking – let me know if you have questions.

-Jeff

GLWS! I love seeing someone else put love and time into their automatic as well. I firmly believe these transmissions can last forever if maintained!

that is a super clean car, jeff. hope it sells quickly for you.

is your M3 a coupe or sedan? DCT or 6MT?

Thanks guys - appreciate it. Would really like to see an enthusiast purchase it, but most of you already have ZHPs and/or want a manual. I reluctantly just posted it on CL.

slater, my M3 is a DCT sedan, Interlagos Blue.

it'll sell. the steptronic is really nice, i always prefer a manual but i really enjoyed the steptronic in the M Sport for the brief time i had it.

excellent!!! i am quietly pining for an E90 M3 sedan. i would like the drive the DCT to see what it's like.

IMO, DCT is outstanding. So many different shift settings, and you can drive it like an auto or manual (paddles). It's mechanically and technically way more manual than auto, just missing the 3rd pedal. There is no Park gear. In Reverse and Drive you need to give it gas like a manual or it won't move, versus a standard auto that will slowly creep in those gears.

I highly recommend one!

For what its worth, I can vouch for Jeff and his eagle eye as he put it. He spent about an hour with me inspecting my M3 before I bought it. His attention to detail is second to none, and I'm an extremely OCD person. I have a feeling I might be a big part of the reason behind his M3 purchase, but like he said, the next owner of his ZHP will NOT be disappointed.

Good luck with the sale buddy, I hope you get all of it, the car is definitely worth it.

Guys - where should this car be priced at? I'm not trying to get rich off this deal by any means - I just want to 1) sell it, but 2) not give it away. So somewhere in between is the sale price. I simply cannot sell it for 11K, I will just keep it at that price.

Open to feedback on pricing. I'm thinking 12.5K might get more movement...or even less?

I honestly think the price is more than fair.

We all own ZHPs already though. Maybe you should start listing it on other sites as well.

I think you are right on the money.....patience, your original post was only 8 days ago!! Especially now, as you are selling it at a time of year that does not favor sellers: car dealers offering big end of model year discounts & financing, and all the college age buyers already have bought their cars and have left for school.

When I recently sold my X1 I had it on ALL the sites, paid and free. The one that got the most traffic by far: ebay. List it on there for free, then close the deal "locally" so you don't have to pay fees.

Patience, you got a nice one and it will sell.

I don't know pricing all that well but that seems to high to me. Check out what has been selling lately and the prices in the rest of our for sale section. It would be awesome if you could get that though. An enthusiast who appreciates a good car.

+1 on price.

Looks legit for what you have.
Great color combo, great option set, low miles, proper care... what more would you want?
A buyer.
And the buyer looking for that will come, its just not every Tom, Dick, & Jane looking for a ZHP.

Sale pending. But it's been pending twice before and the buyers backed out for varying reasons.

I highly recommend the FX-r retrofit!

It's not really a daily driver. I work from home most of the time and if I hit the office, I take a bus. Otherwise, weekends and family stuff, we use my wife's X5.

Mmm I would love to get back into what is basically my old car...fwiw I sold 3 years ago with same mileage, refreshed suspension, and minor ding on inside passenger door for $12.2k but the ZHP market was not as inflated at that time.

Car is sold! Finally, after way too much time spent dealing with jokers, flakes, tire-kickers...

It's headed to southern CA and will reside in a 5 car garage with another '05 Silver-Gray ZHP sedan and 3 M3's, so it's in good company!

Been a great 6 years with this car, seeing it drive off was bittersweet.

Thanks everyone. I definitely thought it would sell quicker than it did, but not many people looking for a ZHP automatic...or at least not willing to pay a higher premium for a clean, low mileage one. That was my experience anyway.

What kind of BS were you getting?

Too many people to count reached out...I'm paraphrasing here but you get the idea - 'I love your car, it's just what I want, can I come see it, drive it, I want to buy it' blah blah blah. I politely responded to everyone, and almost all of them vanished, never to be heard from again. I wasn't mad about it, just seemed odd to email or call me and spend the time to discuss the car, ask questions, and proclaim their desire to buy it, then disappear completely. And it was never because of my car, I know that. It was a legit, turn-key ZHP in top condition.

The funny part was, my CL ad expired this past week while the sale was pending. Several people that had disappeared weeks prior suddenly emailed me asking where the CL post went, they didn't see it, did I sell it, etc. I think they were perhaps waiting for me to lower the price further?

FWIW the car sold at full price, 11.8K, though I had lowered it $1100 a week prior. Maybe that info will help other sellers find the right price point for their ZHP?

That's a pretty good price. Congrats!

I'm getting the same experience with my ZHP. Jet Black sedan with 91k miles, also turn key ready car. I have it now at $9700.

Lot of inquiries as well, probably got more then 10 low ball offers for 7k and nobody yet came to test drive it...

7K...wow, I had a few in the 10K range but nothing that low. Truthfully, I would not have taken a penny less than 11K for my car. At least to me, my car was worth that much and more, and I'd have just kept it for anything less. It was a great 3rd Bimmer in the family, I was in no rush to sell.

I'd just stay patient, and not give in to the low-balling fools out there.

Congrats. Dealing with the same damn thing. People are so ignorant.

it's hard NOT to be so judgmental, because it's crazy frustrating. it's because of the internet - people are willing to say and do things online or via email that they would never do in person (i.e., low-balling). if they actually came and LOOKED at the car, then i'm sure their attitude would change.

regardless, the right buyer (i.e., someone who really appreciates what they are buying) will come along. it's hard to be patient, but unfortunately with enthusiast cars they seem to either sell right away or take a long time. no middle ground.

There are SO many beat E46s out there.
It really is a needle in a needle stack type situation with quality ZHPs.
I'm another one of the rare enthusiasts that really enjoy the Steptronic, so it's cool to see yours going to a deserving home.
It is just as fitting that a proper enthusiast is adding it to their stable.
Very cool for you, OP, and even cooler for the ZHP community.
Enjoy your M3!
