Repainted the ZHP

Title says it all.

Local body shop did it (shoutout to Ali).
All the plastics were removed including the bumpers, mirror covers, door handles. Headlights were restored and clear-coate.

Overall I’m very happy with the results, with my only concern being that doesn’t look quite perfect imola red (too red/pink?) Although it’s possible that the paint is designed to fade slightly.

Interesting how your color pretty much looks the same as when Chad had his ZHP partially repainted. It's lighter and slightly pinker than any of the other factory-colored Imola ZHPs I've seen. I wonder why that is. Doesn't matter; it still looks great!

I'm back in Texas now, and am headed off to Germany for graduate school.
It's a bit crazy. My sister will inherit the ZHP and scare away the boys with her sports-car-driving 6-speed manual skills.

I’m not sure if the insides of the doors were repainted, but all the bumpers, plastic parts, and trim pieces were removed, sanded, and painted.
I spent $1600 for the whole operation.

No rust, not sure what abatement is. He did go over all the dings and notches from over the years and made them nice and smooth again.

I’m genuinely impressed what body shops can do.
I’m still a little concerned about the exact imola red color. It seems just a teensy bit off.

That price won't even get you a front-end respray in a lot of places...

IIRC it takes about 6 weeks for the paint to fully cure... It might darken up a bit

Looks great from the pictures, and you definitely got an excellent deal on the respray. As some may know, a good friend of mine is part owner of a body shop. He has done full resprays and minor repairs on a few of my previous cars. To properly respray an entire car, your paint and ALL materials can run you close to $1600. Going with lesser quality base and clear will save money but won't give the same results.

As far as the color being not spot on...what most people don't realize is that there can be MANY different variations of the same manufacturer color code. For example...on my current silver gray '04 ZHP, it's not enough to say the color code is A08. There are six different variations of A08 silver gray in the R&M base coat catalog. They have a very large binder full of paint swatches with all of the color variations, which you put against a body panel in your car and shine a bright light on. It takes a damn good eye to get it right, and not all body shops do this.

I've personally witnessed four titanium silver E46's with factory paint that not all of them matched the 'standard' 354 color code..two of them did, but the other two matched a different variation.

Looks amazing! Red is a very tough color to spray. Color variations also has a lot to do with the primer coat. Primer coats come in various colors which will add some tinting to your base color. For instance, white primer or light grey primer will make reds more vivid and brighter, where as a black or dark brown primer coat will make red much darker and defined. Darker base coats are not prone to this variance although pearl coat paints will have more pearl appearance with a lighter primer and less with a darker primer.
