Hi Folks,
New to the ZHP world but am a 13yr e39 ('99 528i 5MT) owner and I do as much work as I can. I am old enough to have kids who drive, and if they want to drive my cars they have to learn to drive a manual! I just picked up a 2005 ZHP vert 6MT w/95k miles off Ebay in Miami a couple of weeks ago. Dark Gray exterior with a light gray interior and a black top. I flew down on a round trip flight to inspect/pay, but had it shipped to Boston. The seller didn't advertise it as a ZHP but the VIN indicated it was, as did the pictures of the cluster with the red dials. A carfax report also showed it to be a well-cared-for example with regular dealer servicing for most of its life. The AutoCheck report included on Ebay missed most of its history. It somehow lost the original wheels. Also a boyfriend of the previous owner wrapped the hood, trunk, steering wheel and interior trim in a vinyl wrap that looks like carbon fiber. He also installed brown roundels wherever possible like hood and wheels. As a result it might have been $1k cheap to where it should have been. The engine and mechanicals are completely untouched (aside from basic servicing) which is what I was looking for. I hope to keep it mostly stock and own it for a while.
Car runs and drives fine, but I have started to sort things out over last 2 weeks:
Valve cover gasket, Vanos seals and spark plugs last weekend - VCG was very brittle in places
- while there was little doubt, I did confirm ZHP Camshafts by part number.
sent/received the gooey auto dimming mirror out for repair and reinstalled
unplugged /capped the headlight washer (it was leaking)
becoming familiar with the newer Eonon D5150 head unit with BMW User interface.
Replaced a ratty insulated Engine hood cover with a barely used one off craigslist
Purchased two Bentley e46 manuals (need to sell one and will list in the market place)
Brought the car to the dealer to clear 1 of 2 airbag recalls.
Ordered a set of used, dark wood interior trim (my preference - I'll keep the black cube under the vinyl wrap)
Ordered a set of carpeted mats
Bought a used BMW Performance short throw shifter off craigslist locally.
Thinking about a cooling system replacement later this year or next spring
Replaced a bunch of missing rivets and caps in cooling system and engine cover Thank you CCA discount!
Planning a near term oil and trans fluid change.
I look forward to trying to contribute as much as learn from this group.
