Hello all! Up for sale is my father's E39 540i. The basics:

Manufacturer: BMW
Model Year: 1998
Production Date: 10/01/1997
Model: 540i
Engine: 4.4L V8
Output: 282 bhp @5,400 RPM and 320 ft-lbs @ 3,600
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Exterior Color: Oxford Green Metallic (324)
Interior: Sand Beige Montana leather
Miles:122,0XX (will climb slowly as we use it intermittently)
Location: Portland, OR
VIN: WBADE5320WBV93253

The Lowdown:
This is a one-owner (my father), 1998 BMW E39 540i Oxford Green Metallic on Sand Beige Montana leather interior with a 6 speed manual transmission w/ a clean CarFax (see attached). It has only ever resided in Portland, OR. It's not perfect, but is in respectable shape for an almost 19 year-old car that was driven daily. I have a 2-inch stack of maintenance records and original paperwork waiting for the next owner as well as an online spreadsheet of that maintenance:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1a4E1uhQDFK9_dha7Fhmw-NbsMtZsQLKYLN92Karmd6g/edit?usp=sharing

Comes with two keys, one worn from daily use, one like-new as it was almost unused. Has a full spare in the trunk.

Added Options:

Sport Package. Includes electric sport seats and suspension.
Heated front seats and steering wheel.
Sunroof
Autodimming rearview mirror
UUC Evo3 short shift kit with dual shear selector rod (DSSR)

The Good:
I can't praise this car enough in terms of its performance and comfort. The seats, both front and rear, are still some of the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in for a car. The leather is in great shape, more worn on the driver's side than anywhere else. The car is very quiet at highway speeds; you can cruise in this car for hours without issue. The motor and drivetrain are still very solid, and it's tough to beat the exhaust note of the V8 mated to the 6-speed manual. It has a ton of low-down torque, so it's a lazy-man's car in that you can throw it in third or fourth and you can still accelerate hard at low RPM. Take a look at the maintenance spreadsheet, you'll see that some big items have been done (timing chain/guides, new bumper). No dead pixels anywhere. A/C blows cold and has a new updated final stage resistor.

The Bad:
This car was daily driven with two kids in the back. It has been parked outside for the better part of a year. It was driven in the snow (no salt is used in Portland though). It is far from a garage queen, but also not a beater.

Some notable mechanical/electrical issues:

Airbag warning light - Has been on recently due to vacuuming and bumping the front seat wiring harnesses. Haven't been able to get it to clear and stay off for any long period of time. BMW Portland inspected it and believes it is a passenger occupancy mat failure.
Passenger side window one-touch up function not functioning. BMW inspected and believes it is a anti-trap strip failure.
On rare occasions the alarm won't arm. It happens about once every few months. BMW Portland inspected but could not reproduce.
Shocks/struts are probably due.
There is a slight oil leak, have not investigated as it is very slow (topped up 1/4-1/2 quart over ~3,000 miles).
One of the rear cup holders doesn't pop out.
The stereo is not great. My father doesn't listen to music loudly or much at all, so he didn't opt for a nicer speaker system.
Shocks for the trunk are failing so you have to gently lower it.

Cosmetic issues issues:

Interior: Overall in pretty good shape, 8-9/10. There is wear on the driver's seat leather, but no tears or cracking anywhere anywhere. Scuffs on the driver's seat plastic surrounding the seat adjustment. Minor scuffs on the back of the front seats from people getting in and out and bumping them with their feet. Small stain on rear right seat belt.
Exterior: The paint needs a good detailing, but is not sun damaged or overly worn. I detailed it last year and it looked pretty darn good. New front bumper only a few months ago. A few small dents here and there. Trunk punched a small hole in the trunk's plastic (pictured below). Plastic piece around passenger mirror is cracked. Rear bumper has several scuffs. Unfortunately, someone recently scuffed the paint on the passenger side (pictured below). Not sure how much detailing can fix that. Otherwise fairly decent for an 18+ year old car.

The Price:
I'm asking $7,000 but am open to offers. I'm trying to be as honest and up front with issues as possible. Please feel free to ask me any questions via PM!

Pictures: I apologize for the dirt, I plan on giving it a wash as soon as I can.

Nice looking car! What did your father move over too?

He picked up a TiAg 2006 330Ci ZHP 6MT w/ 30k miles last October. We've kept the car around fixing up some tidbits and for when we need a larger car but we have decided it's time to sell it.

Good choice on a replacement car.

Good choice on a replacement car.

Yup! He drove my car and decided he liked the smaller and tighter feeling of it compared to his car. I wager he will miss the engine and the seats though.

I had a chance to test drive one of these before I bought my ZHP. It is a monster. The interior quality is superb and the power is very fun to play with. The exhaust  It doesn't have the surgical knife sharpness of the e46, but it will spoil you in other ways. Good luck on the sale!

Last bump. It's going to be dropped off at a consignment dealership this weekend if no one bites!

Given away to the consignment dealership yesterday. We'll see how it goes. You can PM me for the exact dealer.
