I've seen this a few other times - recently a Toyota dealer in SFO had one for around $8000. It's like they get a clean trade-in but don't really know BMW's & throw it out there without dong any research. That price is close to the NADA trade-in value.

It seems that is always how it works out.

If it had gray, natural brown or beige leather I would have already wired the money.

Not a fan of cloth seats in BMW's either.....never did get the whole "Alcantra" thing.....for that price you could install a leather interior & still come out ahead.

Seriously?? Jump on this and then buy Shawn's NB leather and swap it!!!!! You can then sell the Alcantara and break even......JUMP>>>>>NOW!!!

You wouldn't even have to swap all the pieces, just the seats and door cards......carpets and consoles can stay!!!

$6900 with that mileage in a 6mt???? Crazy!!!!!

That's what I think. Could be the way the rest of the car had been treated and it could need a ton of stuff at 85k. Also Florida sun isn't nice to paint and rubber on cars that could never spend any time in the garage.

Can't imagine judging a car by the shift knob. Other than the drivers side seat bolster that's the single biggest wear item in a manual car, subject to all the oils on your hand. Is there even really a way to care for a shift knob? Really it's a disposable that lasts a few years then gets replaced because of wear.

Original shift knobs tend to get that way. That one has to be original to the car.

Agreed, mine was well worn when I bought my car as a 1 female owner car with 76k miles. Between that and the scratches on the door trim I attributed to her jewelry getting the best of it.....

Probably not an enthusiast car. But I still believe this: if the car was in bad shape, they would just send it to auction.

I agree for the most part, but working for a dealer, every once in awhile they put some really rough cars out on the lot.

At 85k pretty much everything will shortly be or already is wearing out but the car can still be drivable - for the moment. Fuel pump, cooling system, suspension, all the rubber & plastic components. Gaskets, seals. Plan on around $3,000 in parts & a lot of DIY projects. But then you'd have a solid reliable ZHP with 85k on the clock for under 10 grand.

Not really... a shift knob isn't important by any stretch of the imagination. The rest of the car looks fantastic based on pictures, so I can't say I agree with your assessment.

You would be surprised. I work in sales at an Audi dealership and I have seen some crazy garbage sell at other dealers.

Wasn't me. I corresponded with the dealer this morning before it was sold and got some pics that made me pause. Pretty bad paint oxidation (couldn't quite tell if the clear coat had failed yet) on the drivers side front fender that I couldn't ensure was recoverable and the hood didn't look that great either. Before I was able to get answers on other areas it was sold. Judging from the pics and from what the windshield cowl looked like, this thing has spent a lot of time in the Florida sun. I'll upload the pics later if I get a chance.

I'd be into see some pics. Worst case scenario it needs some paint and paint correction work done. Again, if it runs well and is in otherwise good shape it's totally worth the price.

I agree it could still be worth the price, but if it needs most things that a non-enthusiast owned 85k mile car would need (cooling refresh, suspension work, vanos, inspection 2...)plus paint work, you would quickly get to the point where it was just an ok deal

Here's the pic. Like I said it caused me to pause long enough that it got sold before I got shots of other areas. Also, this morning I was viewing on a cell phone so I couldn't see it as good as now. Could still have been a good deal, but when you have to do a fly and drive or ship you've got to know for sure.

Also notice baked out windshield cowl gasket and fried headlights. The car hasn't been loved.

Umm. No. First assume, no one got a few hundy off, as multiple people were calling on the car and it sold by 10:00 am on the day after it was advertised. Second, add in the dealers fee of $689, generally non negotiable and definitely not when you have folks in line plus 6% sales tax and you are now quickly at $8k before flying in or shipping, so figure minimum of $8500 to have the car at your door and registered. Now start your repair/maintenance work which you estimated at $3k but could be closer to $5k if new rubber and suspensions needed (but would be much more for some one who can't diy) and you are now at $11-13k before any possible paint work. Deals going downhill fast and so is any margin you had to sell it if need be , especially considering how long it's taken to sell some quite well maintained member's cars on here that had a few more miles but we're much better prospects for immediate enjoyment over this one.

That car is like a $4k car. Just like most that are traded into dealers. Probably needs a VCG, Shift seal, Oil pan gasket, brakes, cooling system, diff bushing, control arms ect.

These cars are so easy to drive with a ton of things wrong. My 1999 328 that I had literally proved that to me. It was just a beater and I did nothing but change the oil for the 40k miles I had it over 2 years.

85k is not really low miles. At that point, the car is not really a garage queen but more of a daily.

Seems like people were expecting a mint example for $6900 with that miles. Not going to happen.

Exactly, at anywhere from 80k to about 120k, (as long as the engine runs well) your probably better off getting the nicest body/interior condition you can find, because most of them are going to need the same maintenance catch up.

Correct.

But also consider the age of the car. Most of the time, the front end is going to need paint due to rock chips and etc.
