Just bought my '06 vert this past weekend and after getting it home I noticed this squeakin kind of noise coming from the front area of the engine. Happens right when I start the car and heat or A/C is not on. Haven't really tried to drive it and see if it stops. Anyone know what this is? Pulley or fan itself?

Does it sound like a screeching/squeaking belt? Tensioner??

It's intermittent, like in the video. So i don't think it's a belt slipping, that would be like a long constant kind of screech right?

Maintenance history on the car?
he said he did a couple hoses, starter, battery, valve cover gasket, but that's about it from what he remembers, didn't really keep records. I did have a BMW specialty shop check it out and he didn't say anything about it. (said car was in good shape) I just noticed it to be honest.
If you are able, I would remove the fan and spin the pulley's by hand to see if they free spin and are noisy.

Agreed, could be a bearing going bad..

That sounds like a bad pulley bearing. Do what Vas said and pop off the belts and spin the little pulleys.

the car has 92k on it and I was going to do the cooling system overhaul along with belts and pulleys soon. So i should just live with it until i get to the overhaul in a week or so? It's not going to hurt anything right?
Thanks guys!

If it is only a pulley bearing, and its not driving you up the wall, why not wait and kill two birds with one bearing...

That's what I am hoping to do. It's not that bad that it annoys me or anything, I just like things to purrrr. LOL
I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something that needed to be done immediately (like today) as I am not getting to the belts/pulleys/cooling system for a couple weeks yet.
Thanks!

Sounds to me like a pulley bearing but take that with a large grain of salt. If it is just a pulley bearing, letting it continue until your cooling system overhaul won't hurt it.
