View Full Version : The $16,000, 14,000 mile 2006 SGM ZHP

A guy I had been corresponding via email with, just informed me he sold his 2006 14,000+/- mile, SGM, ZHP to EAG for $16,000.

We will see what they list it at. I told that was way too low.

What's your guess as to what EAG will put it on their site for?

Wow. I'd have given him $16.5! I bet they list for $23.5.

Ouch, that's tough, Shawn. Sorry to hear, but as everyone else has said, at least your son is OK. Missing the bumper can really do a number on our cars. Let us know the outcome.

If the seller had stuck it out for like an extra week I'm sure someone would have taken it off their hands for $18k+. I'd wager it'll be $25k+ on EAG.

Original email:

In 2006 I bought my son a new graphite grey e46 ZHP vert. It was a special day.

Shortly thereafter, he move to Washington, D.C. And although always maintained by BMW and garaged, he didn't use it much. It now has apx 11,000 miles on it and he needs to sell as he and his wife are moving to a home with only a one car garage and they don't need 2 cars.

It has all packages and all options except rear back up sensors. It's in wonderful condition.

I was told that to sell it to someone who would appreciate it, I should list it with your site. If I had the ability, I'd take it myself.

I was thinking a fair value would be $17,750, what do you think?
I appreciate your time and help.

I think EAG will buy it for that and sell it for $24k. If I were you I'd start high, and go from there. What would you request your username to be?

Really? How does that work?

It's worth is whatever someone is willing to pay. And EAG has buyers who are willing to step up and pay. Trust me, I know firsthand.

I don't think a vert is as marketable personally. You instantly kill daily driver possibility for a large part of the country.

$26900 sounds about right.

Agree on the vert sentiment, I've seen lower mileage convertibles sit there longer as the enthusiast crowd definitely prefer the hardtops. Thus I'm lowering my estimate some to $28,900....

I think it depends on location. Out here in Vancouver, low-mileage ZHP 'verts have always been priced considerably higher than coupes or sedans.

I'm in CT and my DD is a convertible (Saturn Sky RL) and it does not bother me at all in the winter. The heat is boss and i actually have to turn it down after a few minutes. In the Sky forum i used to frequent a lot of people also used it as their DD.

Yeah I didn't say it's not sellable I said it hurts it's marketability. You may be an exception but the data I've seen suggests non hard top verts are harder to sell in northern states.

Even that hard top ones don't sell as well.

While a noble idea, it would be rife with challenges. Inventory, starting capital, licensing, etc...

How about a match-making service that matches buyers and sellers of specialized BMWs? A match/dot/com, of sorts, for socially awkward petrolheads, like myself?

Bill & I had a conversation a couple of years ago about a ZHP exclusive "dealership", would it be viable, would it work. He thought there was money to be made in buying & selling ZHPs, especially those examples where the current owner didn't realize it was a ZHP. I have to admit I had had the same thought a couple years before that. But in the end, for me at least, it went across the "sport" concept to me, we're all ZHP enthusiasts at heart, we want these cars to be right, I'd probably lose money in overcorrecting/over-preventative maintaining them before I tried to sell them. Bill tried a couple of buy-fix-sell examples and I think he proved my hypothesis was true, you end up losing money or just breaking even, you'd be very hard pressed to make a living at it. Maybe you could do this with a dealer/flipper mentality, I know I've done it in the past with trucks, but I personally can't do it with ZHPs, I'm too in love with them.
