The later version of the Testarossa, called the 512 TR has a more modern looking wheel.

Is that a Celica?
mimalmo
02-01-2011, 09:25 PM
Yes, first generation.
I owned one very similar to that when I was in high school. Mine was black. RWD and a 5 speed. It was fun.

Mine was the other body style.

And technically my first car was a Daihatsu Mira while I was still in Japan. But I couldn't get my drivers license over there so I never got to drive it... Legally :)

That's one thing that pissed me off about my E30. :mad

Okay, let's compare the diving board M5 you pictured, to THIS:
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a315/Dinan_e28/5er%20fest%2004/Picture135.jpg
Larger lowbeams and much better looking bumpers. After you've seen one of these in person, you'll never look at a diving-board equipped car the same way ever again.

Couldnt resist. and yes, that's plexiglass that is functional. I give him 4 stars for creativity and implementation, 1 star for materials choice. 0 stars for original ride. 5 stars for uniqueness. Oh, and the plywood also covers the "bed"....

The only stat I remember from the 959......is when it first came out...I remember them saying it had more electrical connections, relays and sensors, than the space shuttle did.

Eli, that's Anri's old car (he's a member of the BMW community in SoCal). He sold it at the end of December. It was a great restoration. The only thing I hated about it was the wheels, which were BBS LM reps -- badged with BBS caps. :facepalm
Not sure how much he finally sold it for but my guess is that it went for around $25K-$26K (asking was just a hair under $30K).
Anyhow, it's a beautiful car. It's still in SoCal.
mimalmo

Yeah, I saw the LM reps and went WTF? All that work and you went with reps?

Yeah, I saw the LM reps and went WTF? All that work and you went with reps?
And, hell, I don't have a problem with the reps per se. It's the BBS caps on the reps that kills me.
Personally, I would have gone with a nice BBS wheel for that car. Probably would have gone with the same BBS RS wheels that are on Mariano's E30 M3 (my favorite E30 M3 out there):
http://image.eurotuner.com/f/17921832+w750+st0/eurp_0904_05_z+bmw_m3+wheels.jpg
http://image.eurotuner.com/f/17921820+w750+st0/eurp_0904_01x_z+bmw_m3+front_view.jpg
I've told Mariano that I want first crack at his car if he ever sells it.
See full Eurotuner article about his car here: Diamond Black & Lachs Silver BMW M3 - M3 Fanatics (http://www.eurotuner.com/featuredvehicles/eurp_0904_bmw_diamond_black_lachs_silver_m3/index.html)

Well I spent the last week hanging out with a bunch of healthcare IT folks at HIMSS which is a very very large conference. But while walking around the show floor I did spot a couple of hotties. Those kind... which are not below ... sorry fellas but these might count
At the booth right next to ours was the wicked cool BMW Daytona Prototype

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_obyodcZBck8/TWfH9g2iT1I/AAAAAAAAAjk/i3lEueOUbL0/s720/HIMSS%20Telsa.JPG
And the final Keynote/Guest speaker was Michael J Fox.. so one booth was taking us Back...

I went to a Ferrari Challenge race once, back when they were running the 360 Challenge cars (Road America in 2005 IIRC). If you ever get the chance to go to a race, do it. Ferrari's sound great on the street but track prepped Ferrari's are amazing sounding.
They usually also do the historic Ferrari races the same day or same weekend. Those cars are even better than the Challenge cars.

When BMW designed the E64 M6, they said they wanted to have have a car that looked agressive coming up behind you at tripe digit speeds on the autobahn, as well as a car that looked luxurious pulling up to a country club...

I'm pretty sure BMW has made iterations of the M3 pickup before. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of them. The E30 M3 pickup was an example.
I think that actually looks pretty hot, even though I hate pickups.

Hate is an awfully strong word BP.
Hence my use of it. Pickups fall under the "truck" category, and I severely hate trucks, regardless of how many wheels they have.
Buses are the only thing I hate more than trucks (as far as transportation goes).

I have never seen a Subaru Brat in person. Enough said.
I'm talkin' huge oversized pieces of metal that do nothing to help other drivers other than to block their view and tow crap that nobody wants to be behind.

No, but I do think that they should be considerate. Driving an oversized hunk of metal doesn't fair well for visibility.
I know that doesn't change the fact that some of them need those vehicles for their actual purpose, but I know of way too many trucks in this area that have owners who apparently think "the bigger the better" and drive it for no apparent reason other than them thinking they're badass. Their parking is usually a huge mess as well because none of the drivers of pickups or SUVs around here know how to park. They always feel the need to take up multiple spaces.
Too many times I'm stuck behind someone in a huge SUV or pickup truck and can't see around them to see if they're actually in the left lane for a legitimate reason or if they're really just cruising along with nobody in front of them. In my opinion, anyone with a large truck should have two vehicles including the truck so they have something to use when not hauling or towing.
It's too bad that nobody with these trucks thinks this way. Oh well.

They may have bought the truck for work or small business purposes and it also doubles as their daily driver because it's cheaper to put gas in a big truck than it is to buy another vehicle (like a small car), insure and maintain it. It could be that they tow stuff on a regular basis or maybe they have a large family.
Case in point, my other vehicle is an 04 Chevy Suburban. If we ran into tough times, my car would be sold and we would keep the truck. It uses more gas but for all the things we do, it fits our lifestyles better than the ZHP. If anything, my BMW fits your description of "drive it for no other reason than I think it's badass" in my situation.

Botond, we're on the same page here bud. I live in Orange County and I would think it's safe to say that 1 out of every 2 trucks actually sees proper use. In these parts it tends to me a lifestyle thing...or some sort of sub culture. A lot of them are raised way too high to be used for work as you'd need a forklift to put things in the bed. Meanwhile doing this to a truck severely hinders the fuel efficiency and performance. Off-road race trucks actually don't sit high at all. Bigfoot is another story altogether, lol.
My issue is that the bumpers of these raised trucks are about the same height as the top of your B-pillar (ie, head height for us passenger car drivers). I'm originally from Europe so I think hatchbacks are the way to go :) Nearly 10 years ago I used my 318ti (which I still own) to pick up a whole new powertrain for my race car...That is the full engine, transmission, rear end and driveshaft. In a 318ti. Drove it down from LA. Ever since that day I knew I'd never own a truck.
If I was in the line of work that would warrant the excessive storage space, etc. I'd get a Ford Transit Connect.
Obviously my opinions are based on what I see down here in Orange County, Southern CA. So please don't take offense if you live elsewhere and happen to use the truck to most of its abilities.
Just sympathizing with Botond....
