Interesting maintenance history

Forgot to write that this is a multi-owner car ha. The way that it's written makes it seem like it was previously owned by one person. I have no idea why there was such a large gap in the maintenance records but all the way up to 50k, they were from the dealer.

Also swapped out the BC racing RSMs for some JTD RSMs

Nothing was wrong with the BC RSMs, I just had some free time and the JTDs on hand.

I like the double-ring locking on those coilovers. And thanks for answering the "why" question on the RSMs. Any benefit in the design, etc?

I'm really liking the double locking rings as well. It's nice to be able to adjust ride height without messing with preload.

I purchased the JTD shock mounts from Turner a few months ago because of their high praise for them. I was looking for a mount that was "stronger" than the stock BC mount. A plus to these, is that they have bushings that are replaceable and they are $15. Here's a link to the mounts. Thank you John!

Had some extra free time today so I gave the interior some attention.

First, I took out the front seats
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02/15/3b65efa9449851888908b665b84c3621.jpg

Then I vacuumed and cleaned the carpet up.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02/15/d894f250eb27fa78279d558585c8c0b7.jpg

Installed the armrest delete kit I ordered from ECS tuning.
http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/02/15/ffc5f3679a2e5ae21d8f0de63e0afe87.jpg

Also wiped down everything that I could and installed new trim clips after all of mine broke when I installed my bimmian cell mount. What a difference, it's back in there nice and tight!

Just waiting on my parking brake boot, shift boot and coby wheel re-wrap to come now!

Very straight forward! 2 bolts in back, 1 seat belt bolt and 2 nuts up front. All 16mm. I would undo the seat belt bolt first lol learned the hard way... Put the seat at its highest setting to get to it without any issue. Undo the rest of the bolts and then disconnect your battery. Disconnect the clip under the seat and pull 'em out!

Yes ha probably was the first time those seats came out of the car. Found a pile of stuff that looked like sawdust under the passenger seat... :dunno

Yup, even easier in a coupe: you can skip the seat belt bolt.

When I lived in Philly I moved some cut lumber in my car for a buddy. I kept finding sawdust months afterwards.

I'm assuming you want to disconnect the battery first before disconnecting the seat connector to prevent airbag light issues??

Yup. Center the seat on the rails, raise the seat up, disconnect the battery, then disconnect the seat wiring harness.

Such a good feeling to have a clean interior. Now I just have to try to keep it clean!

I bet, that would frustrate me! I've heard that people find some interesting things under their seats but I wasn't so lucky.

They weren't in too bad of shape but they did feel pretty soft and flexible compared to the M3 mounts. 107,640 miles on the old mounts.

I also put in a new exhaust bracket after the old one rusted and broke off.

No rubbing at stock height. When I lowered it with the BC Racing coilovers, the front wheel was a few mm from the strut. So I put on a 3mm spacer and added Turner hub extenders, no issues after that! They currently have Hankook Ventus V12's on them, 255/35/18 square.

I originally was really wanting the 18x9 EC-7 (like you have!), but I'm not sure I want to go up from 17" yet.

I *did* find a set today, though, that will be very unique and I'm confident will look super stunning whenever I do pull the trigger.. keeping it secret for now. :)

I ordered the Swifts from Ray. I chose to get 8k/10k this time around though. We'll see how it goes!

I have whatever the 8k/10k springs are that came with my BC's. I recently turned the dampening almost all the way down to the soft side, and they ride great! Don't feel harsh at all, and the roll in corners is very minimal. I bet you'll like them.

Quick Question about the rtab.

Did you have to compress them before being able to install them into the trailing arm?

Quick Question about the rtab.

Did you have to compress them before being able to install them into the trailing arm?

I saw a video or two where they compressed them, I didn't. I greased it and let the rtab tool do its magic. Just make sure you don't have the tool piece that pulls the rtab in, on the rubber edges. I accidentally did on the first one and it didn't want to go in right. I rotated it and set it up flat against the rtab and it went in perfectly.

Do the limiters just rest against the nubs that are on the bushings?

Do the limiters just rest against the nubs that are on the bushings?

Honestly, when I reinstalled them I was so tired that I didn't even really pay attention to the positioning of the limiters against the bushings. I'm going pull the trailing arm down tomorrow when I roll my fenders and check it out.

A few months ago I purchased some shadowline trim pieces from gfortner's part out on here. Today, I swapped my old ones out for them.

Here are a couple of pictures showing the trim that runs on the edge of the door alongside the window.

I decided to try out AKG Street Poly FCABS and installed them lastnight. I had Meyle HD's on before and the difference is definitely noticeable. I'm pretty sure the Meyles were already worn out (12kish miles) because even my BC coilovers feel like they are smoother with the new AKG's installed. Very happy for now!

I once again forgot to take pictures amidst the installation but will take a couple of pictures after my alignment today.

It wasn't hard! Take your time though and make sure there isn't dirt or rocks in between the window/b pillar and the trim. Patience is key!

My leather wheel will be going to Chris (D1ESEL) while he ships his to Coby. [emoji106]

Today, I replaced my trunk lid grip strip. I had one license plate light out because the terminals were corroded. I managed to take the painted back plate off of the old unit and transfer it to the new one. Saved me from having to get it painted!
I also installed ziza LED license plate lights during the process. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160407/12cfaa9817b7f7d81528a629ddecaff8.jpg I think they look great!

Update! A slight delay but in the past week, I've installed a few items.

-OEM gloss black kidney grilles replaced matte black ECS Tuning grilles. (Shoutout to Chris, D1ESEL for the hookup!) Really happy with the gloss black, wish I would've gotten them instead of the matte black to begin with. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160417/8657d633586104c7b3cad63dd2afa756.jpg

I found some extra time and took out the clutch delay valve, shifting from 1st-2nd is so much smoother now.

Also bought a "UUC Big Boy" clutch stop sometime in 2014 and tried to install it back then but it was too long. After that I forgot about until recently but finally cut it down and installed it Feels really good paired with the cdv delete. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20160417/77a3b4ea8820c432a4a861e3a35376db.jpg

I bought a Valentine 1 after checking out Chris's car and hardwired it in. Very simple DIY! Still learning more about it but so far, I really like it.

Brushing the dust off this thread....

Tonight, I ordered Koni sport struts/shocks and H&R sport springs from bavauto. I also hit up FCP for all the small items to be replaced with the new suspension, along with a new guibo and csb.

With the move farther away from the cities, I grew tired of the stiff set up currently on the car now. I think that the konis with h&rs will be better on the car for the long haul. I might be a lil lazy but set and forget sounds pretty nice right now. [emoji4]

I installed the Koni shocks and H&R sport springs on the wife'z zhp and it is a nice ride. The drop does give a slight rake towards the front but its not bad overall.

Ride is good with the dampeners set a 1 turn from full soft. If they are left at full soft, the ride is bouncy.

Yeah. I mean the car does ride different compared to stock vs lowering springs vs coilovers. But for a daily and the ability to just replace parts if something happened was the way to go.

Let us know what you think when you get them.

To start things out, I set the struts and shocks one full turn from soft. The car handles very well, much better than I actually had anticipated. I may go back a half turn towards soft in front to see how that goes. The first drive was very pleasing, smooth and refined yet firm and planted.

I'm happy.

I will take pictures of the ride height tomorrow.

Nicely done! I like my Koni Yellows a lot. Some people say that you should set it and then wait about 500-1000 miles for the shocks to break in/settle before readjusting. I don't think there's any official word from Koni on that.

I just set mine to 3/4 turn from soft and haven't touched them since I installed them and I've been very happy with it.

Agree. Give them a few miles and @3/4 from soft is a good starting point. I had mine WAY too firm to start with--kidney jarring...

Drop and fitment looks spot on. What tire size are you running?

Nice.

Did Bavauto still have a complete suspension kit ( shocks and springs ) in stock? I am tempted to go with the same set-up instead of coilovers for the simplicity of it.

Last I checked, yes. $799 with free shipping.

Yuuuuge bump.... It has been so long since I have posted [emoji20]

Today, I completed a cooling system overhaul (radiator, water pump, both radiator hoses, thermostat and expansion tank), while I was in there I replaced both belts and all pulleys. I did go with ecs tuning's aluminum water pump and power steering pulleys.
Here's a crappy picture of it all finished [emoji23]

I also took the opportunity to swap in a new voltage regulator. The new unit is actually made for an 03 Z4, oval plug. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170127/cb2137afd4d543a055e5760bfe0dbdcc.jpg

Lastly, cleaned up the GruppeM with a K&N filter recharge kit that I forgot I had...

Used 135i calipers arrived yesterday, so I cleaned them up and took them apart. They're pretty beat up but I'm happy that the pistons are in great shape. Currently getting estimates to get them powder coated. Trying to decide on color, I think I like the dark silver though!

Just the fronts! I purchased these brackets to make them fit. http://rebooteng.com/parts/bmw-135i-brembo-caliper-brackets/ Other than that, it should be pretty straightforward.

Update!

Calipers are refinished, just need to put the pistons and rebuild kit in. Decided to get them done in Kingsport Grey with a Clear over the top. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170519/e0d3c3c4fa887b183dd77c04bdef436f.jpg

Reboot Engineering brackets came today, I was so excited to finally get these. I think they look great, we'll see how the fit is...

They do look awesome. Love that you went with an OE-ish color to preserve that OE+ look.

Pretty much. Me and Jack Donaghy understand "moderation" is for the weak minded.

I realized after I posted but couldn't be bothered to edit. I live on the edge, no take backsies.
