The cable for the door handle just snapped. Felt kinda weird when I went to get out and the the next time not thinking about it, it just snapped.

Very infrequent happening right there.

Hmm...I've heard of the plastic door handles inside breaking, but not the door cable. How many miles does your car have?

Do you turn green when you get mad? Lol. Well, for once it's not a plastic piece failing...
You can probably MacGyver it back together with a trip to home depot. You know, if they ask you to buy the whole door just for the cable.

EDIT: on second thought, there's not enough cable left to salvage it.

Wow. I've not seen that before.

I guess I need to start using the unlock button instead double pulling the handle to open the door. Glad the cable is inexpensive found online for $5 plus shipping. While a local bmw salvage yard said $20 off a used, unknown mileage car. Convenience factor on the smallest of scales. 400% more for a used one. I ordered a new one.:help:dunno

I wonder if they don't know the cost of a new one? Nice online find though.

You need to code off that Auto lock bullshit.

I wonder if someone didn't over-stress it taking the door panel off once upon a time... :dunno
Seems fishy.

Meh, I personally love the feature, especially when I'm driving through sketchy areas.

Wait, that has to be coded out? My car has been messed with more than I thought. Mine doesn't auto-lock. I wonder if that's part of the Dinan flash? Probably not.

It could have been requested by the original owner through the dealer.

I don't remember which option was default, but it was one of those things that you can request the dealer set on/off for free before taking delivery of the car.

Actually the window regulator has been replaced. Very possible, that it was in a bind and just eventually broke

It isn't needed 99% of the time. Sketchy areas just warrant a quick push of the button to lock the doors. Having to double pull every time I want to get out of the car is so annoying!

Every car is different with what it left the dealer with. As others have said, it was an option for customers to have the dealer code it to their preference when they took delivery of the car. My assumption is that the default is OFF, as when I flash my car to factory settings, the option is disabled.

I mean I've always locked the doors out of habit, so to me, automatically locking just makes things more convenient. And is double pulling really any more annoying than pressing the button or pulling the lock yourself? Growing up with German cars since I was a kid, it just never seemed that odd to me.

I rarely drive though sketchy-enough areas that warrant locking the doors, so having to push the button once or twice in a year is a lot less annoying than having to double pull every single time. I don't have a need to lock my doors while driving because I don't live in Camden. :)

I was driving through LA a few months back and pulled over to shoot off an email. It was a sketchy part of town but I was just going to be a few minutes.
Next thing I know there's a guy trying to open my driver's side door. Not sure if he was trying to car jack me or got confused because he got into a black Lexus across the street.
Either way I'm glad the doors lock automatically. I'm used to double pull and find out amusing when a new passenger tries to open the door and nothing happens. I almost want to give an evil laugh and play the Halloween theme song.
But that's just me.

Different strokes for different folks. Portland is not known for carjackings, so I don't feel the need for it. I'm glad I had autolock with my 330Ci in Philly though.
