As I get ready to hunker down for the blizard in DC, I found this pic of me and my very first car. '76 Chevy Chevette. 0-60 in 16.3 sec. 52hp. What was yours?

Pretty much the most unfitting name to that car possible. :)

I didn't have much choice, it was my mothers friend....it was pretty much a gift to her for me to buy it !

Now that I think about it, she wasn't such a great friend lol.

I don't want to date anyone here, but looks like I'm the youngster haha. My first car was my last car, and probably the best first car I could have asked for! 2001 E39 525iT, manual and not enough power to kill me. Even for a massive wagon that thing handled on rails, but when I drove it right after driving the ZHP it felt like the Titanic! I still miss those timeless E39 looks every now and then, especially when I happen to catch an E39 wagon drive by.

$1200 Craigslist find. Parents said I they'd help me with insurance and maintenance as long as I bought something safe...

Good times in this thing from end of sophomore year of hs through to freshman year in college...sold it to another kid for his first car for $1200.

1993 Audi C4 S4 with a manual transmission. Black on beige interior. It was my mom's until she moved on to a different car and I was lucky enough to inherit it in high school. I loved that car, definitely more power than I should have had in my teens. Sold it to a buddy of mine when I left for college. Unfortunately, he drove it into the ground :facepalm

Oddly, I don't have any pics of that car, so a stock photo will have to do:

2001 VW mkIV Jetta VR6. Had 2 of them. Green on black, I hit a patch of black ice with that one my junior year of high school and lost control and hit a honda accord. Then had a black on beige for the next 4 years. During hurricane sandy a huge tree branch cracked off the maple that my car was parked near in my driveway and crashed through the rear window and partially crushed the roof.

1966 Mustang convertible. It was my parents first second car. Dad got it in 73 and I got it in 86. It had sat for several years so we had to have a pretty large mechanical refresh before I started driving it. 289 V-8 and drum brakes all around made for an interesting learning curve for a 16 yr old!

1982 Toyota Tercel 5 speed that I got in the mid 90s when I turned 16. Just like that except my interior was dark blue.

Was a great first car and was one of the cars that helped the Japanese dominate for the next few decades.

Surprisingly comfortable, easy to drive despite having no power steering, and always started for me. These apparently had forklift engines. Haha

My first vehicle was a Truck! 2002 Sierra. Started out as a modest yellow truck, but tht didn't last long. I ended up smoothing, color matching, and adding a pearl pain! Plus cowl hood...dyno tune, exhaust etc. very fun to drive until I grew up and went to college. 2390523906

Hmmm, thought we had a thread like this. :dunno. I got my first car 6 years after I could drive, an '84 Supra (lightly used), black of course. No pic of that but I'll post up another one. My '85 that I got later.

Separately, holy shit William, a '69 Chevelle? Sweet. Freaking Bruce Springsteen wrote a song (ballad) called 'Racing In The Streets'. It starts out 'I got a '69 Chevy with a 396... '. Dude, that's your car! :)

2002 Celica GT. Learned so much from playing with that car and I miss the go kart feeling it had with the low weight, upgraded suspension and sticky 225/35/18 rubber it had on. + too slow to kill myself which was good as. Keep on thinking I should upgrade the ZHP's suspension... Also learned I would never go that low of a profile tire on my future cars = no 19s on the ZHP :)

A Mustang fastback, of course.

And that would be a 1976 Mustang II vintage model tricked out in (bye-bye)Polar white over red, which was actually a Limited Edition Special Value Package (SVP). This package included two-tone paint, tape stripes, styled steel wheels with trim rings, and inside special seat inserts and brushed aluminum instrument panel.

Yeah..........so like............kinda sorta the precursor to BMW's code ZHP.

And the Mustang II SVP reminds me in every other way of my old Imola ZHP in that it was just a garbage option anyway.......you know.......just some cosmetic upgrades with (and here’s where it departs a bit from the ZHP) the same cam and (lack of) diff to claw back some of the (lack of) performance lost fitting those hideous and heavy 13" styled wheels with trim rings.

I religiously washed it every weekend during the 4 years I owned it (lived and went to college on the Central Coast of California), and honed my skill of using Turtle Wax (baked in) and Armor All (rubbed in with extra elbow grease) detailing it. Car literally looked like new when I traded it in for a custom ordered 1980 Trans Am replete with screaming chicken decal and custom T-Tops.

But I digress. Needless to say I'm sooooooo looking forward to Ford retroing this model in the future. :)

I ran it dry of oil and seized to engine. I was a very irresponsible 16 year old, did not listen and did not care about anything. So I just ran the car to the ground. I never checked the oil, did no maintenance etc. When she did finally died on me it was 1 am on a dark highway in NJ. Had to walk a few miles to call my bother to come get me. Told my dad and asked for his help to buy a new car, that answer was obvious no and time to grow up son. I grew up a lot at 16.
