View Full Version : How to identify ZHP exhaust?

My ZHP seems quieter than I remember my old one being, so I'm wondering if maybe it had a 325 exhaust installed at some point. Or maybe I'm just used to the insanity of the S54 with a CSL rep intake.

Looking under the car there's no evidence of the exhaust flap, so it's at least probably not a 330i exhaust, but I don't know how to tell between the 325 and ZHP muffler

A picture is worth a thousand words.

2 pipes in, 2 pipes out.
No chrome.

As far as I can tell, both the ZHP and 325i meet that criteria.

If you have no flap then you should be good...

The 325i and 330i exhausts appear to have flaps based on a Google image search. The ZHP does not have the flap.

agreed. also, the tips are not rolled. it's easy to tell the difference.

This is apparently what a 325i non-sport muffler looks like -- doesn't look physically very different from the ZHP muffler to my eye

You guys are probably right in that I probably do have a legit ZHP muffler. Just quieter than I remember.

No two cars are exactly alike... they each have their nuances. Two ZHPs today will not sound exactly the same.

is the diameter of the piping smaller on a 325i? I forget..

True, though usually you can tell when they're supposed to sound about the same. I looked under, it doesn't really look like the exhaust was messed with. It's been years since I rode in a ZHP until my current one. My ears probably just got used to the M3.

I don't think so. 325 and 330 (and ZHP) seem to be identical until the muffler itself.

Someone needs to get a picture for you, I don't have a garage or I would contribute and help.

The chrome tip maybe? The way it is pressed in?

^ Fairly certain that's not supposed to be pressed...

The pressed one is a 325i one.

Mine does look more like the top picture, just a lot dirtier. I guess it is indeed a ZHP exhaust and the previous owner didn't swap it out. Guess I'll just have to rip out some sound insulation :P

I can take a pic of my oem exhaust if needed. It's in my storage shed in the back as I'm now running a Magnaflow.
