View Full Version : I think I'll keep it

I was thinking about moving on to a F30 or F31, but I'm going to stay with the ZHP a bit longer.

Over the past 5 years, my cost of ownership (depreciation, maintenance, repairs, and mods) has averaged out to $4,500 a year. I'm willing to pay $5,000 a year to drive a car I enjoy, so I started looking at F30 335s and F31s. If I'm willing to buy a year used, keep for two years, and then swap out another, I was thinking I could keep the average yearly cost down to $5,000 a year.

But right now I have no payment, all my maintenance is up to date, the suspension has been refreshed, and the tires only have 9,000 miles on them. If I'm lucky for the next 2 years, all I will need is 2 oil changes, 1 coolant flush and fill, and a brake fluid flush and fill. Hopefully any repairs and the depreciation will be less than $5,000 a year.

My car has 92,000 miles on it right now, and based on some of the mileage figures I seen around here, it is barely broken in. And who doesn't like walking out to this in the morning:

Good call.

"ZHP is a garbage option anyway- just some cosmetic upgrades with a different cam and diff to claw back some of the performance lost fitting those hideous and heavy wheels. Any 330 with a 3.46 diff will smoke a ZHP every time. The whole Mafia thing reeks of childish behavior." - an e46f member

Solid choice. New cars tend to have more creature comforts, be more fuel efficient, faster, and safer. I don't fault anyone for moving onto something different, as our tastes and priorities change over time. It sounds like you're still enjoying the ZHP for what it is both objectively and subjectively, so props to you! Keep on enjoying it.

When I'm sitting at home reading about "faster" cars, I begin to want that extra performance. But I have rarely ever been driving the ZHP thinking that the power was not there. (The rare occasion is when it is carrying a full load of passengers.) I need to read less and driver more.

Same here. I'm dreaming about a 2009-2011 335i or 335d. But I will enjoy the ZHP a little longer.

I bought her on Feb-2015. When did you buy yours ?

When I like them, I usually keep my cars for 5 years. My 1999-e46 and 2006-e90 come to mind. Let's see if my ZHP goes that far.

I also have a 2-Door Tahoe that I've owned since Feb-2002. It has 182K on the clock. A 2-door full size SUV was my dream "car" growing up. Now that they don;t make them anymore, I can't let it go. Part of the reason I got the ZHP was to make the Tahoe a garage queen.

Good Call. I'll keep my alpine as well regardless if I buy an LCI F30 late next year, I'll miss it too much.

I was really close to buying an LCI F30 as well... But I decided to just go all in and save up for a down payment on an F80 M3. For now, the ZHP will remain the chariot. Perhaps it will spend its retirement the way I want to spend mine: as a track whore. [emoji1]
