I replaced the A & C pillar covers recently. I heard you can just remove the fabric and the looks are ok. For those thinking about fabric removal, here are some pics of the covers without the fabric.

The A pillar looks fine without the fabric. You may consider to buy just the insert.

You can see the glue on the C pillar without fabric.

This last pic shows how the colors compare to the original fabric (on bottom).

Hope you can make a good decision now !

Thanks for doing a comparison photo. Removing the fabric is an option however the headliner is black like the pillar fabric. So the pillars without the fabric will not match 100% to the headliner.

Good info. I forgot about the headliner.

I replaced both the A's and the C's shortly after buying my car 3-1/2 years ago. They are holding up fine - still look perfect, and out here in the Sonoran desert, they're subjected to brutal heat in the summer. Perhaps the replacements are more durable than the originals? I dunno.

I'm thinking of stripping the a and b pillars, I'm just done with this bs.

And, the naked ones look blacker.

Well, the way I see it is it's taken TEN+ years for them to sag like they do on most of the cars that havent' had them replaced so it's just a matter of refreshing them back to "square one" if you will. They just last a long time...

My car was 7 years old when I bought it, and the originals were sagging worse than Dolly Parton. But I get it.. still may take a while for the replacements to crap out. Which is good.

Strange, on my ZSP the naked pillars are a beige ugly color. Is black the color of the recently purchase ones or specific to he ZHP?

IIRC, all the ZHPs have black pillars. It makes sense to have black color under the fabric.

Dang, that's the cherry on the ZHP cake. They even thought of the color of the plastic under the fabric!

Only the ZHPs, M-Sports, and M3's in the E46 line got the black headliner and pillars. Any other car has either the beige or grey ones, along with matching headliner.

You could always buy the black ones and put them in! They won't match the headliner, but that could always be swapped out... But leaving them as-is would work too. :)

Does anybody know where I (we) can find a quality replacement fabric to re-wrap? Everything that I am finding has the 1/8" foam on the back. I have my C pillars removed, and will be removing the A & B pillars tonight.
