hey guys,

saw this on kijiji (like craigslist up here, although we have craigslist as well :) ). black on alcantara, steptronic. 102K KMs, which is 60K miles. looks stock. $12,000CAD is about $9000USD. this car is a bargain for US folks!

Wow, that's quite a price for a 60k car.

What are the (potential) problems with buying a car in Canada and importing to US?

Cost... paperwork. Cheaper to just buy one here.

actually, it's pretty easy and the only thing you're really paying is tax. same as you would when buying a vehicle in the US.

i've done it before.

at that price, i think it would be worth the minimal effort.

No import paperwork and fees?

no real fees other than tax. minimal paperwork. the last car i imported to canada was 10min at the US customs side, then 15mins at the canada customs side. that's it. there's more to the process, but it was extremely painless.

so from a safety/build perspective Canadian cars meet US regulations?

yes. if anything, the canadian cars have stronger safety regulations (look at the Mk1 TT - the canadian version got these ugly 'tumors' added onto the front and rear bumpers).
