I thought this was interesting...

I am currently not on me and my fiances car insurance because I am never home, but will be back in June and buying a BMW.

I decided to get 3 quotes (http://www.tkqlhce.com/click-4193730-10358738) and the differences are not what I expected.

2004 ZHP Sedan - $1,158.70/year this includes both of us and our other car as well.
2005 ZHP Coupe - $1,266.40/year same as above
2004 M3 - $1,319.00/year same as above

I thought the M3 would be much higher compared to the ZHP.

Slightly on/off the subject, I just sold my '04 Grand Cherokee when I bought the ZHP. They are the same year but the Jeep books for around $10k or a little less, ZHP for around $14k for private party. Bottom line is I actually pay $20 LESS per month for insurance to drive the ZHP. Crazy right?

Well at least we all have good taste in the exact same vehicles...

I think jeeps and "off road" vehicles tend to have a higher insurance because of the potential for wrecking off road.

That's probably true. I have some silly little coverage on the Jeep. I mostly self insure it. It ain't worth that much.

My insurance jumped $30 a month from the E46 to the Z. One because it's a "High Performance Car" and it's a Coupe.

If you didn't know, USAA opened up their eligibility a little last year. The biggest change is anyone who was honorably discharged after 1995 is now eligible:

Military retirees, regardless of when they retired
Military personnel who were honorably discharged on or after Jan. 1, 1996
Widows or widowers of military personnel killed in action
Spouses and children of the above, once they become a member

Full eligibility list:

I love USAA.

+1. Father was Air Force, so I've had it from day one for my cars.

For what it's worth, here's what I'm paying through USAA (6-month rates). I haven't received another quote in years, so not sure how this compares to other insurance companies these days. I'm 38 and married and have full coverage on all 3 vehicles. I think I also still have a speeding ticket on my record (71 in 55).

1990 MAZDA RX7 CV $229.76
2002 BMW X5 4.4I $369.14
2005 BMW 330I $288.62

I'm a little older than you. But here's what I have at Geico:

2001 Jeep GC (liability)
2009 BMW 335 (full coverage)
2005 BMW 330 (full coverage)

Total of about $715 every six months.

I cannot complain.

My speeding ticket probably doesn't help. I also have low deductibles ($200). I might bump those up to $500 and see what the difference is. I have towing and labor in there too but that's only $6 for each car.

My deductibles are as follow:

2009: $100 for comprehensive; $1,000 for collision.
2005: $100 for comprehensive; $1,000 for collision.
2001: not carried; not carried; uninsured motorist ($3500) for $3.40 a month.

USAA FTW! I pay $70 per month for my ZHP w/ $500 on both collision/comp.
