Not sure what happened here. Did u buy them at discount tire ? They will give you some credit for such damage, even if u didn't buy the extended warranty.

Yep, you were all correct, its a cut.

Bought a new tire (and road hazard to bout, there is too much construction around our city these days).

They checked alignment for free and gave me a friendly discount.

We had a strange issue with some older pilot sports looking as if they'd been rallied on a gravel course after simple normal driving. Glad to see yours weren't defective, but still sucks.
