Hey guys,

So I'm taking care of my oil filter housing gasket this weekend and while I'm in there I'm doing a coolant system refresh since my thermostat just started acting up.

I have the ofh gasket replaced and all of the belts have been removed but I forgot to drain the coolant before I got started.

My question is, can I run the heater with the engine off to drain the coolant with all of the belts/the fan removed?

With the engine off? Just the blower?

Correct, that's the plan... Should be okay?

Yes. One of the DIYs recommends running it on high iirc.

Yeah the one I have says 91 degrees low fan.

I've only performed this action on fill, not on drain.

That's not saying it won't facilitate draining though.

Yup, one of the DIYs I used for my cooling system overhaul suggested it as well to get all the coolant out of the heater core (link: http://www.bmw330ci.net/maintenance/completecoolant.php).

Yup, I've heard that but not done it.
