View Full Version : No longer lurking in Atlanta

Where do I start?

I've always loved cars in general but I've never had any money and when I did I was doing responsible things like paying off student loans and stuff. What's that mean? That means I've been driving the same vehicle for the last 16 years and I only get to be a 'car guy' when something breaks and I fix it. My poor truck has seen better days but is mechanically sound and its really convenient to have a truck around.

Anyways, the E46 has always grabbed my attention. There's just something about it's flat face and big ass that gets me going. So while I first fell in love with the M3, the 330i is just far more practical while still being a beautiful car. I always knew I would get an E46 so I've been lurking here, watching and learning. Now the time has come for me to find my ZHP so I am coming out of the shadows and will become far more active once I find my baby (and start fixing her.)

That being said I'll be posting my WTB shortly. I need a couple more weeks to come up with the money and then it's game on.

I look forward to meeting you guys and soaking in all your advice.

Thanks, I may do that. With all the German influence in Huntsville you would think ZHPs would be a plenty.

Welcome! Good luck in your search!

I'm don't know if shipping a car is something you're considering, but if you find one local to me (Portland, OR) let me know and I'll go check it out.

Might be a good car and just needs a good cleaning.

Dumb question but is there any reason to avoid a 2003? Does it have any more issues than the 04-05 (air bag recall, VANOS, cooling system, tail light recall, and window motors)?

Definitely no reason. They were just the "first" ones. But not first for the E46 in general so all of the usual things apply just the same. It's more that the "newer" ones got SMALL bumps in technology...i.e. I have like Version 1.0 of Bluetooth in my car that I don't think was available in '03.

EDIT: Welcome fellow Brittany owner!!! Best dogs ever! :)

The 2003 models did not have Auto headlights or auto-sensing wipers.

Did some digging and found this thread basically calling this guy a crook (scroll to end of page 1). http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?1969616-2001-BMW-540i-touring-black-on-black-sport

It's the same seller (same location and phone number) so I may not make that 4 hour drive. Based on this forum presence on E46fanatics and bimmerforums, it looks like he parts out a lot of BMWs.

Thanks. I found info on the aesthetic stuff, was really more worried about the mechanical.

Those are two of the most underrated technologies in my opinion! Rain-sensing wipers are great when it is raining on and off! Then auto headlights are just a great convenience!

Always bugs me when people can't be bothered to vacuum their cars for sales photos.

I also love this bit: "For sale is just about the nicest 2003 ZHP 330I that I have ever owned!!!" - makes me want to ask "and just HOW MANY 2003 330I ZHPs have you owned?" Silly people.

+1. Once you've had these conveniences, you can't live without them.

Welcome! I apparently got lucky, I contacted that guy about his car and he told me someone was already coming to see it so I ended up getting a much MUCH more cared for ZHP from Cali! I was pissed at the time but now this makes me VERY happy! Took me a solid 3 months of looking 24/7 at every site I could find to finally find my gem! Best of luck and enjoy the search it's fun stuff in its own right!!

Just ask Bruce that and you'd actually have someone who can use that line legitimately. :rofl
