Car is still on the lot. I will stop by and take a look at it since I had an individual reach out to me asking what I think about it.

Car actually never sold since it is on consignment.

It is back on the lot with a much lower price tag.

I updated the first post to reflect the new price.

Dealership also has about 5 years of service records for the car on hand.

Great deal for a zhp. Send me a pm if tou are interested in the car and I will brief you in about it.

Yeah that used to be a deal breaker for me but it's an easy $200 retrofit with some aftermarket stuff.

What was the original asking price?

What was the original asking price?

Well the car is on consignment. The owner was asking $8500 and it did not sell at the end of last year. Now it is back on the lot asking $6500

Yeah, drop off at shop and wait 2 hrs while they install. Done.

Cool thanks for info. Wondering how flexible they might be on it with the work you mentioned it needing.

Seth look at post 10 with the images of the front strut towers.

Greg is a great guy to deal with and is very honest. He had reached out to me to list the car on the forums to help it sell.

looks like the RF tower has a crack. hard to tell from the pics. those could likely be pounded flat again, however it would be good to see what other potential damage exists.

if it's just the towers, i don't think it's a major deal breaker. weld in 2x reinforcement kits, perhaps? one up and one down.

Lots of "declined" services, not sure how I feel about that but I'm sure it's possible owner could have done stuff himself or at another shop.

It got a thermostat in 4/11 110k miles - no other mention of cooling system refreshing. No mention at all of suspension work, and he admitted it needs some struts and a good alignment because of some "off-road activity". Also not sure if some of the stuff was done by owner like brake pads and such, no records on that type of stuff.

Last entry has front bumper paintwork listed and since we can see it sagging, combined with needing an oil pan and struts because of this "off-road" stuff... My intuition says non reported accident (Carfax is clean).

With the potential tower crack, needing suspension and oil pan and still a decent amount of unknowns it's hard for me to justify even a $6500 price tag. Could be into the car for $3k right off the bat and I just don't think the mileage warrants that price when lower mileage 04s and 05s can be had at that cost with up to date maintenance records.

Honestly, that email from the listing seller (Greg) sounds shady as hell. As a buyer, if I were to get that from any seller I'd walk away instantly. No way would I get involved with this car at that price with damaged struts and needing replacement oil pan and shocks (and likely half the car in addition to these items). Half the price - maybe, if I was feeling adventurous and had a garage to work in.

I'd like to see that. 2 hours is pretty ambitious to get both fronts done.

Not seeing the shadyness. He was upfront about issues the car has in his email - how is that shady? Let's not forget that Vas vouches for him being a good person to deal with.

I agree the price needs massaging considering the things that are wrong with it.

Lol 2 hrs - even 6 hrs. Out of sight out of mind. Stuff can be installed by a multitude of shops for a very reasonable fee and no headaches on my end.

Issues I see...

Website's ad says:

"This is a great deal on a '03 330i that is in VERY CLEAN condition!! "

"Please keep in mind the vehicle does have 151,000 miles, so there are a few little odds/ends that are representative of the mileage"

And zero mention of the known problems. Damaged struts, oil pan and shocks are not "little odds/ends that are representative of the mileage" - these are signs of neglect, and serious issues that will add up to half the cost of the asking price. Not disclosing them upfront is being dishonest and wasting people's time. No different from listing a rebuilt car as a clean title and then going "oh, by the way" right as the seller is about to sign the paperwork.

Might as well mention: the front, passenger-side bumper is not sitting properly, and has likely been damaged/replaced. Also, why is there a low windshield-washer fluid light on at the dealership? Could they not spend $5 to fill it to better present the car? Of course they could. The reason it's on is because the fluid has a leak and they don't want to fix it.

And that email... oh man.

"would be wise for someone to put a shock package" = shocks are destroyed, but I don't want to say so. I like how he put in that "adjustable goodies" part to make it look like you'd be making an upgrade to something that YOU want. He's trying to plant the idea of "I'd be getting aftermarket coils anyways, so leaking shocks don't matter" in your head so you can justify this purchase. Sleazy pick-up-artist tactics.

"alignment is a little off" = let's hope the frame isn't. But I wouldn't take his word for it.

"a slight off-road excursion" = the car was crashed (see front bumper), but the owner didn't have insurance to fix it properly. And clean carfax = the crash was never reported, and was "fixed" as cheaply as possible.

Given that it was owned by a dentist (ie. making good money and car insurance shouldn't be a problem), I'd bet that the owner was a cheap bum that not only skimped out on the insurance, but the maintenance, too (see all those records with missing items).

"i maybe have like" ... no attendance records in high-school English classes?

Don't just walk away from this car. Run like your life depends on it.
