CSL - style trunk/bootlid on a sedan: Who's done it? Examples to share?

Hi all -

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right place or not, but...

I'm wondering who out there has done this mod to their ZHP sedan (or reg 330i). I've been considering it, but i haven't seen a lot of examples on the sedan. You see it more with the coupe or m3 in particular it seems. Also: I've read about lots of issues with exact fitting, and all sorts of various quality and aesthetic appearances—including different looking lips etc. Would love to hear people's thoughts on this, and the pro and cons of various options.

Anyone have some examples they can share, and suggestions for where to buy a good one that fits like it should, can be jet black to match my car, and has placement for the medallion—i've noticed some don't after some googling. I want something that feels like it could be OE on the sedan.

I don't know if i'm gonna do it, but i'm thinking about it.

Pardon my lack of understanding: but what is a trunk hood?

I think JG is asking if anyone have put on either or both the CSL Bootlid or M3 hood on their sedans. Since no one makes a sedan hood with M3 powerdome you have to fabricate it to the sedan hood to get that look. This is something I'm planning to do......

As for the CSL bootlid there are a few who have done this... Ryan (Ryans323i) did this and it looks good :thumbsup

I think you're right... I saw hood so I thought he meant both... thinking about what you said brought things back in perspective. I now think OP meant CSL Bootlid for sedans...:thumbsup

Sorry - i shouldn't have been posting so late at night—that's what happens. That should have read "CSL TRUNK / boot lid. "Hood" should have been deleted. I've updated the title of the post.

To be clear, i'm interested in CSL style trunks / boot lids for a sedan, and they don't need to be carbon fiber.

There are sedan CSL bootlids out there... this is one I got from Tony's friend last year but haven't gotten to installing this just yet....

You can also try searching on eBay but I would trust getting one from either of these two mentioned above. As for fitment, like any other aftermarket product you will have to do some light trimming to get everything to fit. Check out some of the DIY's on e46fanatics and bimmerforum for these. Also worth mentioning is that you will only need one bootlid shock when mounting the carbon fiber bootlid. Having two will put more unnecessary stress on the mounting point of the bootlid which will eventually lead to stress cracks on the bootlid itself. One shock is sufficient for these bootlids :thumbsup

I've been researching all around about the differences in these boot lids, and the biggest concern I have regarding buying one for a sedan, is it seems with both of these models you suggested (which seem to be some of the better options available from my research so far), the horizontal line does not line up with the top of the tail lights like you see on the M or coupes. I'm thinking this would probably look really strange. Also, why i'd love to see people's example pics. I'm gonna call them on Monday and ask. The pictures they show are old, and most of the discussion forum threads ( like here (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=990616)) on this topic around the web are about older fabrications (maybe?) that may or may not be the versions being sold today. They seem to change them up. Also, those like the seibon one discussed in the thread i linked above, don't have the line, but also don't have a space for a roundel.

The seibon version (as shown on the website now here (http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/2002_BMW_3-Series_seibon-carbon-fiber-cslstyle-trunk-lid-bmw-e46-4dr-9904-p-29503.html) ) seems like it could be a good choice, high price aside, as it shows no line —so no matching up issue, and seems to have a space for a roundel. I'll probably have to call on that one too, in order to get an exact answer.
