View Full Version : Winter Tire Size Question (245/45r17)

I have a set of almost brand new 245/45r17 Blizzaks and it would kill me to take a huge loss selling them as used tires when they are almost new. I've only been able to find threads where people ask if these will fit and someone talks them into getting a '40' aspect ratio or some other tire size. The car will have stock suspension and I am wondering if there will be any rubbing at all (steering at lock or bumps) as it will drive me insane.

Pictures because why not:

My car with new Blizzak WS80s in 225/45/17.

Definitely room to spare, but those are definitely wider, so possibly steering at lock... :dunno

Glad I got them when I did then...but who knows maybe more sizes might come back in stock in the Fall.

Yeah I started looking much early for winter tires.

Nice looking winter set-up! Difference between your tires and these is +2.8% (.71") on diameter and +8.2% (.79") on width for my tires. Still concerning to say the least. Too expensive of a venture to mount these and realize they don't fit! I have freedom over the rim offset as I will definitely be buying new rims (probably used BMW wheels).

I'm currently running 225/50 R17 that fit fine on my setup with stock suspension. I'm actually looking at going to 225/45R17 for my new set this year since i just discovered dry rot on my old set.

I'm guessing that if the 225/50/17 is safe, then you're probably ok with 245/45.

225/50 Sidewall: 4.425"

245/45 Sidewall: 4.338"

I'll try and check for sure for you tomorrow.

For winter I would go with the narrower 225 section over the wider 245 section tire.

Yeah, I think he already has it is the problem.

Ok, I was probably wrong. I think 245/45 is going to be too big.

225/45/17 WS80s. Narrow is better during the winter. No issues. Works great. Would recommend to a friend.
