View Full Version : A sad day

In an instant... I nearly got t-boned at an intersection. Thankfully the SUV missed the passenger door and most importantly my fiance but did tag my rear quarter hard enough that Progressive wants to call it a "total loss".

I know I'm not going to get what I feel its worth. Should I pursue trying to keep my "totaled" car??? I know I can part-out a number of items that may make up the difference of the $$$ I'm losing.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Also - moderators - should I put a "feeler" under the classified section - I want to do this properly with respect to your rules here.

Thank you,
Glenn

We don't do feeler ads here. Sorry to hear of this happening. It's really going to depend on what the buy back is on the car, whether or not you want to pay that, whether or not you think you can make money on it, and have the time to invest in part out and shipping.

Glad you guys are ok.

Thank you Dane,

I'm quite busy so chances are I'll reluctantly accept the check and some salvage yard in Central Florida is getting a great deal.

Ugh sad. Sorry to hear, but thrilled that you are both OK!

Some on the forum have fought for a higher payout from their insurance after they were able to show them comparable vehicles and their true value. Good luck with whatever you decide.

as much as i wouldn't want them to total it id fight for the car's value and bury the car in the boneyard/try to find a replacement if thats the avenue you want to pursue, looking at that damage i wouldn't want to fix it.

sorry about the incident man, glad everyone is okay.

glad to hear you're OK, that's the most important thing.

i'm sure there are other forum members in the area that could either take on or assist with the part-out - it would benefit everyone involved, and keep it away from the salvage yards. :)

Buy it back and part it out then.

I'll definitely fight for a decent pay-out. I shot the photo with the rear door open because I was clearing out my personal items. The rear door latches fine so I think the damage is mostly the outer quarter-panel skin. But maybe it did affect the rear strut area and we all know how well the subframe in that area is reinforced. In Florida I do a lot of highway so the 160k miles on it is going to kill my pay-out. If there's a way for me to know where the car goes - I'll pass that on to you all as there are many good parts and new parts - alcantara interior has never been smoked in no tears, rips, I rebuilt the zkws with e90 metal reflector bowls, new koni yellows all around, etc.

+1. DO NOT TAKE THEIR FIRST OFFER. Show "comps" to get more value, plus they pay you the taxes too. And, good luck for sure whatever you decide. Sorry that this happened.

Yuck :-( Wait for their offer. Counter with the facts about the ZHP and make them aware that your car is an easy $1000 more than every other e46 out there. I received $9,500 for my totaled 160k mile ZHP in August. Yours may be worth more depending on mileage and year. Best of luck. And glad you and your girl are uninjured. Cheers!
