I am planning on refreshing my center console this weekend, and will need to remove the trim piece I am pointing to in the picture. Best I can tell from other searches there are a few electrical connectors to undo, but the real issue for me is actually getting the trim piece up. It appears to be held on by 4 "v" shaped clips.
Has anyone ever removed this piece without breaking the clips? Is there a special trim tool, or can you simply pull up on the boot/trim piece?

You have to remove the little leather boot and then there are screws underneath

I removed mine when I swapped the step manual mode shift direction.
I just grabbed the boot and pull up. That trim piece is not held in there too hard. As the previous poster said, once you remove the boot/trim that exposes the screws to the outer trim with the switches.

Yup, what they said. Call me if you have questions. Pull up the boot, unscrew the screws underneath.

Actually your picture was so big I thought you were pointing at the silver cube trimmed surround. I've never taken off that black selector surround but to start:
Pull up the Alcantara boot
Remove screws holding down silver cube trim, lift up back side first, pull electrical connectors from window switches and remove
From there if you can't figure out the black trim take a pic or maybe Rando can chime in if he's removed that piece.

I have. Trying to remember. I think it just pops up, use a trim removal tool (or credit card) or whatever that's slim and non-marring.

Thank you for all of the posts. I feel better about doing it now without breaking a tab.

I can now confirm you simply have to pull upward on the boot to remove the black trim piece. Thank again!
