View Full Version : Dipstick Tube: When was it updated?

I know that the old "sleeve in the tube" design dipstick tube was updated by BMW due to it causing oil burning or in extreme cases, hydrolocking.

Anybody know when BMW released the updated version that does not have an inner sleeve but has an air hole above the oil level?

Mine has a hole above oil level. Build date 10-2005.

i think it was 2008/2009.

Maybe I have it incorrect. Could it be that both versions have the hole?


Slater, if that be the case then all e46 came with the old version and are capable of malfunction? I was hoping the later cars might have been already updated.

not sure, but i think the SIB was from 2009. i could and most likely am totally wrong.
