The sales rep tells me this car is spoken for.

Me too. So I asked "spoken for" or "sold". A manager emailed me back saying that they felt the car was not in good enough shape to sell but could be a good parts car or track car. Wow, an $18,000 parts car? Go figure.

That's...odd. Why would they price it so high if they say it's not good enough for sale/"it is spoken for." Something strange is going on there.

Yes, I thought so as well. Not that it matters too much, but here is the note I got when I questioned the "spoken for" initial response:

"The car isn't sold, it's just in a condition where we don't feel it's fit for retail.

Its currently at our wholesale facility. It would make for a very nice "parts car" or "track car" if that's what you're looking for."

If I had to guess, they put the car through their shop and it needed several thousand dollars worth of overdue maintenance. They didn't want to make the investment and couldn't retail it as is.

Gotcha. Just thought it was strange to still have it advertised, and at that price. No worries. I didn't even see an actual picture, so wasn't set on it by any stretch.

Agreed, but some dealers put trade-ins in inventory almost immediately, before details, pics and shop service.

Still, I've found it on AutoTrader.com, Cars.com, and Thompson BMW's website. You would think that would take a concerted effort, but maybe it's automated in some way.

Yep, still listed at $17,989. I questioned them asking how they can sell a car they said is suited for a "parts car" or "track car" and yet sell this at retail pricing if they didn't consider this car suitable for retail sales? Waiting to see what their response to my question will be.....
