Hey all!
Quick question, are E90 cooling systems similar to an E46? Specifically in the aspect that they are changed entirely every 80k miles or so?
A friend of mine has an auto E90 328i with 69k SoCal miles on it. The coolant light has come on several times a week as of late, and they are adding distilled water. I took a quick look last night in the movie theater parking lot and it appears that the radiator is leaking at the bottom. I'll be doing the work for them, so should we go ahead and order all of the cooling system components?

My 2006 e90 330i has 89k miles. I live in TX, so probably the conditions compare to SoCal. The only coolant system repair I had done is: lower radiator hose at 83k miles. I would think 69k miles is a little early to do a complete cooling system refresh.

I would have to agree. I'll pressure test the system and identify the leak for sure, and then replace the leaky part accordingly.

It's still the same plastic, I would maintain the 7yr/70k schedule

Yeah but it's over 8 years old. Age is a factor...
Plus, if the car gets driven in any stop & go, that is harsher on the cooling system than say freeway driving. All depends on the type of driving you do.

The electric water pumps tend to go around 75-100k IIRC, but the rest of the system appears to be fairly robust.

Our e91's cooling sys went at 26k this summer (car is an 07 though)... They're just as susceptible as e46s are. Thermostat and pump were the culprit. Tank looked fine.
