Honestly I can't tell any difference. I went with the light smoke (6%) vs the dark smoke (12%). I tinted one lens and went for a drive at night, barely any difference at all.

Here's some photos with new lenses and tinted Lamin-X in the driver side only.

That's awesome to hear Gary! Yeah, I think when I did this I went with the 12% dark smoke....it looked good but was too dark at night and made it not worth it for safety reasons.... perhaps I might revisit the 6% and install it like you did on yours. :thumbsup

Really loving what you have done to your whip thus far! Keep it up Gary :)

I finally bit the bullet on some engine tuning! I have the SMG tune from Frank Smith and love it! Frank can email tunes and you just download them into your laptop and flash it to the DME. Beings I already had his cable and programming software it made it pretty easy, almost anyway. I called Mike Miggs over at Status Gruppe and he worked out a deal with me beings I bought my headers, section 1 and SCZA muffler from him. He even took off $30 beings I had the cable already. I got the tune yesterday and planned on loading it up early this morning before it got over 100 degrees in my garage. I used my Mac for loading the SMG tune but for some weird reason I couldn't get it to load the engine tune. I called Mike frustrated and he called back 5 minutes later. How cool is that beings it's Saturday! So after several calls to Mike , 3 hours in a HOT garage and having to switch to my Windows laptop I just bought of ebay I finally got it loaded.

When I first went for a drive after installing the headers, section 1 and SCZA I was amazed at how fast the car was. But after installing the engine tuning I was just blown away on how much of a difference it made! The entire test drive I found myself saying "Holy Shit" and laughing because it was such a shock how much of a change it was. I'm going out with the wife to take a video and I will post it up shortly.

Thanks for the link, good read. To be completely honest I wasn't all that thrilled with the SMG in stock form when I first drove it, it takes some getting use to. But with the addition of the CSL SMG Tune (TTFS) it changed everything. Shifts so much better! Then with the addition of the complete exhaust and a tune (TTFS) it's a blast to drive!

Installed the OEM BMW alarm today. Overall pretty easy DIY. Hardest part was taking off the panels behind the engine to install the siren. Bought everything for approx $115 of eBay. The siren is very loud when triggered but the audible part when locking and unlocking is very weak. Oh well no big deal.

Gary my friend got the SMG software from frank smith. But when he did it something must have gone wrong. His car won't start so it's stuck in his garage. Did you have any problems/hiccups?

WOLFN8TR
07-25-2015, 07:17 PM
I didn't have any problems at all. Did he have a battery charger hooked up during the flash! You have to use a 10 amp battery charger set on manual during the flash otherwise you could brick the DME. There was a guy over on the M3 Forum that had this happen trying to flash the TTFS SMG tune and Frank was able to help him out. If thats what it is call Frank and don't keep trying to flash it.

What exactly is it doing anyway?

Rovert
07-25-2015, 07:47 PM
He said he used a battery tender. LOL. He's going to buy something more appropriate now.

WOLFN8TR
07-25-2015, 10:42 PM
A battery tender isn't good for flashing, it supplies a trickle charge of approx 1.25 amps. I would tell him to call Frank before he tries anything else. He might make it worse.

That ring looks great! How easy is the wiring? Plug in play or soldering involved?

I purchased the connector that plugs into the plug on the shift knob and six wires that extend from that connector. Two get wired into the shift selector and then just tap into the reverse and neutral wire down on the main plug. Doesn't look hard, I will find out tomorrow when I go to wire it up.

Might have to order a set of these bad boys after Charlie's line blew!

Custom High Pressure Power Steering Lines with Fittings, Group Buy-$280!

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=487092

We will provide DIY instructions when the part is ordered. These parts are manufactured in the USA and the BMW spec fittings come from Italy. This is high end stuff. I have responded to questions regarding product testing, warranty and brand of the parts below. To be exact, the stainless line we use is a P.T.F.E line rated at 2000psi constant pressure. Burst rating is 8000psi. These are PTFE hoses, so made with teflon and are basically the best hoses made for automotive pressures. and yes the fittings matter. there is not red and blue fittings made with these lines. The fittings are rated for the lines they are sold with but fittings on this cost a lot.

Cool. Brushed aluminum is definitely the better look there. I don't know why chrome was so trendy in the late 90s and early 2000s, but I'm glad that's past.

Got the M5 Shift Knob installed. What a difference in the way it looks and feels! Bye bye chrome! Wiring was pretty easy after finding the proper diagram.
Here is the wiring info if anyone needs it. I wired up the background illumination, neutral and reverse. I didn't want the drive/shift because it was too bright at night.

SMG M5 Shift Knob
1 = Zone Reverse (GND)
2 = Zone Neutral (GND)
3 = Zone Drive A/S (GND)
4 = Night Illumination (GND)
5 = Switched +12v for Night Illumination
6 = Switched/Constant +12v for zone lighting
---------------------------------

SMG2 Control Module
1-(Reverse GND) to 3 (White w/Green stripe)
2-(Neutral GND) to 7 (Yellow w/Blue stripe)
3-(Drive A/S GND) to 8 (Green w/White stripe)
4-(Night Illumination GND) to Brown w/Black stripe (SMG Switch)
5-(Switched +12v) to Grey w/Red stripe (SMG Switch)
6-(Switched/Constant +12v) to 1 of the Red/White wires.

If you're not careful Trevor, it is very easy to break things on your headlight assembly.... as for difficulty? I'd say probably a difficulty of 5 for this project if you never did the lens replacement before. For me it's not too difficult but then I have rebuilt 6 full sets of headlight assemblies since rebuilding my ZHP's initially..... I'm fairly comfortable doing this now...

ZKW upgrade complete, what a difference! I would say at least twice the amount of light. So worth the $40 for the lenses. I just ordered som DDM D2S 6500K bulks as mine are weak, the drivers side seem dim.

Our Premium Ultra HID bulbs are quite simply the best. Modeled after the Osram CBI line of performance bulbs we've sourced quartz glass from Philips, salts from APL USA and electrodes from Plansee in Austria. On top of this we've redesigned the capsule to produce up to 20% more light that the standard Apexcone HID bulbs which are already an industry leading bulb. The quartz glass is optically clear with a UV coating to protect the headlights from UV radiation. The warm up time on the Ultra bulbs is about 20% quicker than Apexcone bulbs and will reach full brightness in 2-3 seconds.

Alignment: Manufactured in a state of the art facility using automated processes we guarantee perfect alignment of the xenon capsule for the best beam pattern possible.

Wattage: Specifically designed for use in 35W and 55W applications these bulbs are rated to work on ballasts with up to 60W output.

Output: Output up to 3400 Lumens when used on a 35W ballast and 5000 Lumens on a 55W ballast you're sure to be seen.

Warranty: Premium Ultra HID Bulbs come with a lifetime warranty.

Very nice Gary!!! I think I will have to get myself an ECSTuning billet water pump pulley for my ///M as well sometime ;)

That's funny. I noticed they do indeed have one for the ZHP as well. That's cool. I installed their billet water pump pulley on my ZHP and new belts. It was a pretty easy install.

I installed the ECSTuning aluminum water pump pulley last year on my 330i. It seems to be slightly smaller than OE so it spins the pump a little harder (which is good) and it is much more durable than the OE plastic/composite pulley. Oh and it also adds to engine bay bling (if you can even see it). A very worthwhile upgrade IMHO.

I agree, nice upgrade for sure. Plastic pulleys just don't make sense at all. Unfortunately you can barely see it on the M3's. Oh well.

The Vanos, Oil Filter Cap and Dipstick are so shinny now the rest of the aluminum parts look dull.

I was going to install the ECSTuning pulley and belts but in order to remove the fan shrouds you have to take off the upper radiator hose and the under panel. Wasn't as easy as I anticipated.

Rovert
10-11-2015, 07:45 AM
I had to pull the fan shrouds off to change my alternator so once they came off I left them off. They seem like a nuisance because you'd have to bleed the coolant system everyone you wanted at it. I'm sure with it out I could modify the shroud so it can fit back in with an upper rad hose cutout.

So the OCD kicked in and I decided to take my lights apart again and tweak the light pattern.

After installing the ZKW lenses the light output was way better but the pattern and cut off line was blurred.

I decided to make some WOLF industries shields. These took about 2 hours to make and perfect but in the end the cut off line was near perfect with a nice blue line!! Oh and that bolt is light weight aluminum. :cigar

Thanks. I found it amazing how sensitive these are. The shield design, the shield distance and even crappy bulbs kill the cut off line. The first time I installed the ZKW lenses I didn't adjust anything, bad move. That's mainly why I decided to do the shields. I found out my tinted Lamin-X kinda kills it as well.

DDM Tunings has a lifetime Warranty on these Ultra HD bulbs. I contacted their customer service and explained that one bulb only worked for 3 days. She told me to open a warranty claim on their website and say it was damaged in shipping and request a new bulb from the Cali store rather than China. So the next day I get a reply via email saying to just take a picture of the burnt out bulb then break it and take a picture and reply to the email. Once received they will ship one from their Cali store. Ok DDM redeemed my faith in the warranty process!

Today I changed the oil and installed the ECSTuning Billet Water Pump Pulley and new belts. Man was that a real PITA! So much easier to do on a ZHP. Turns out the stock water pump pulley on the ///M isn't plastic like it is on the ZHP. So for $60 and a few hours of work I now have a lighter pulley with some bling. The diameter is the same on both.

ECSTunings Description:
A "bolt on and go" answer to a weak, unattractive water pump pulley.

Pulley kit includes new drive belt and bolts to mount the pulley.
If you've ever replaced a broken or cracked water pump pulley and wondered why the engineers at BMW didn't make it out of something more durable, you're not the only one.
CNC machined from 6061 billet aluminum, our ECS pulley will never crack or break leaving you on the side of the road. Hard anodized finish to help prevent corrosion. This pulley is a direct replacement using the factory belt and original hardware. If you are replacing your water pump, now is the time to get rid of that plastic pulley.

Also got my metal washer mounted to my cell phone case for the Core 360 cell phone mount to go with the Bimmian bracket.

So why are both tail lights out?

Well two things actually. I was trouble shooting the drivers side tail light and cleaning all the crap out behind both lights at the same time. I wanted to check both plugs and make sure there were no issues. After doing some reading I found its usually the sedans that had issues with the ground and the plugs melting.

My birthday is coming up on the 25th and my wife Apryl just asked me what I want. [emoji2]

I said a Evolve Eventuri CF Intake for the M3! [emoji7]

Ok how much is that? Um around $900 new, $800 group buy, $700 used. [emoji51]
She said ok if that what you want!! [emoji2][emoji2]

I have a line on a slightly used one from a M3 forum member that has one with about 100 miles on it. He is selling it to get a Evolve CSL Intake, they are around $4,000! He wants $700 for it so it looks like I will be getting it right around my birthday!!

Let us know how the low end throttle response is effected. Intakes always seem to make it lag a touch. My CF Carbonio was pretty minimal in lag, I wonder if that's because it was fully inclosed.

I got the intake installed today. The install took a bit longer than I anticipated. I removed to two plastic rivets that hold the heat shield and used SS screws. Also fabricated a bracket for the Air Intake Sensor. The quality and fit are top notch. I went to drive it and my battery was dead. I left the key in the ignition and on position 1. Great [emoji15]

It's just a road up behind my house that doesn't get a lot of traffic, works good for test runs. It's the same one I used in these last two videos.

I recently purchased a DINAN strut bar so I can be Charlie cool, lol. Anyway I decided to polish it up. I started with 800 grit sand paper and worked all the way up to 1500. Then I polished it by hand with "Blue Magic". Then I filled in the DINAN with black marker paint. It looks good as new if not better! I will probably install it this weekend.
