Thanks! Yes the wiring is pretty decent. The one thing I really like about these Angel Eyes is the wiring is encased in the plastic ring. The Helios Angel Eyes from Khoalty I had on my ZHP were not and 3 of the 4 wires pulled out while putting my lights back together and I had to solder them back on.

I decided to install a switch like I did on my ZHP. I mounted it in the center console button assembly.

Here they are, man these are Bright!! You almost can't look directly at them. I didn't hook up the night controller as it didn't seem to dim them much at all.

You don't need DRLs with these AEs Gary :thumbsup The switch part is interesting....I'd also like to hear more about this :)

WOLFN8TR
02-09-2015, 07:14 AM
Thanks John! I need to hook up the night controller as these suckers are too bright. I can actually drive without headlights. [emoji15]

Sean where exactly did the wire break off? At the Angel Eye relay?

I will draw a diagram on wiring the switch when I get home later.

Oh and I found out the two trigger wires that go to the relay cannot be switched.

White- Goes to the accessory Red/Yellow wire in the DME.

Yellow- Goes to the foot well light.

If you reverse them the relay chatters like crazy! Also if you pull the fuse to the Angel Eye relay the foot well trigger still turns on the Angel Eyes. Weird.

The night controllers do dim the output of the AEs enough so that they aren't as bright as your xenons are.... it is a subtle difference but it's there...

I tested it yesterday and didn't notice much of a difference so I didn't hook it up. Apparently I should have.

that's because the footwell trigger isn't really a trigger. it actually supplies the power directly to the angel eyes from the interior lights. that is why there is a fuse there.

also the wires are encased on all non-fl coupe angels because they aren't full circles. if it was a full circle, there would be no place to put the wires in the plastic without making the ring even thicker.

Just installed the Evolve AIT Relocation Kit. Seen this kit on the M3 forum and how the stock MAF Sensor gets heat soaked causing a rich condition. Relocating it down just underneath the air filter fixes this issue. I found one of the Evolve AIT Relocation kits for sale in the classified section and decided to give it a try. Honestly I was impressed at the difference this made! The car feels like it pulls harder and runs smoother. Not bad for $70 and 1 hour to install it.

I thought about that while under the car cursing and then realized I'd be cursing the headers as well :) I bought headers and full exhaust and sold them before buying the house. I'll get another set in time because they really do make the car sound a million times better. Supercharger would make it sound even better. Mike's car (status gruppe) sounds ridiculously good with full exhaust and supercharger. I can live without the latter.

I decided to get some new headlight lenses beings I'm OCD. The old ones looked like they were sand blasted.

Got a new Bosch set from Khoalty for $80 shipped.

Bosch Headlight Lens- http://www.khoalty.com/headlight-lens-replacement.html

Also got some Lamin-X 6% tinted protective film and new headlight cover strips.

Lamin-X http://www.ecstuning.com/ES2609115/

Left- http://www.ecstuning.com/ES173247/
Right- http://www.ecstuning.com/ES173248/

After applying the tinted film to one lens I installed it to compare the difference from the non tinted one. I couldn't really notice any difference while driving and barely any standing in front of the car looking at both lights. I really like the slight tinted look. There is some slight haziness in the photos that should disappear as they dry.

Yes I will find it. Super easy thou.

You need the filter and two orings.
-22mm socket to remove the fitting
-Pull off the filter, it's just snapped on the end
-Remove old orings and install the new ones
-Reinstall and torque to 20ft lbs.

I was surprised how easy this is. Took about 10 minutes tops. The smaller oring is harder to get off and there is a plastic spacer behind it. It's split so don't freak out thinking it broke while removing the oring like I did.

Ok a little update since installing the AFE Intake Scoop and Elbow. So far I really like this setup. My intake air temps are down, car definitely runs better and my gas mileage went up! I wasn't expecting that at all. Before the install I was getting 22.6mpg. I filled up and reset it. Just went thru a full tank and its reading 23.7mpg! Win Win! [emoji2]

I need some input fellas. Contemplating getting some Headers and Sec 1 for the car. Thanks Sean this is all your fault btw!

Which setup should I go with? Option 1 or 2?

Option 1- Installed for $250!
Option 2 I install them.

-Option 1

Status Gruppe Headers, T-304 Stainless with 200 Cell Sec 1. $1600+($250) $1850 Installed.

If you're comparing those setups just pay $250 install fee and pocket the $250 delta ($2100+pain and suffering minus $1850).

Not worth the difference between SGT/CPI and hassle with install.

With OEM muffler I would expect your car to sound a little better than the first because of the better flowing headers (even if marginal).

Interesting. I'm really curious how it will sound. I know a muffler will be the deciding factor in the sound but I can't really justify that cost at the moment.

Read this http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=446185

Take your time, don't remove the A/C lines lol, use silicon or rtv to hold the gaskets to the head when installing headers, and hopefully you won't pull too many studs. I did the tighten and the loosen and tighten and loosen all the way on the nuts which served me well. I had two studs come out which required the double nut to reuse the stud (two nuts to get the stuck nut off of the threads). It is suggested to use corks on the coolant lines but that didn't work so have thick latex gloves and plenty of rubber bands around. I didn't loose much coolant but it did leak overnight because rubber band wasn't tight enough.

WOLFN8TR

Got that one bookmarked. Read it several times already. Did you siphon out the coolant from the exp tank before removing it?

No it's actually not needed. You can actually tilt the tank so it won't drain and then add the glove/rubber band. The lower tube is the one that leaks if you leave it (tube that connects to the other side of the hose from the tank.

Well I decided to cancel the SS Resonated X-Pipe, Section 2.

I called Mike Miggs at Status Gruppe and spoke to him about my exhaust setup and what I was looking for. I didn't want the car too loud with the obnoxious drone. He recommend the Stock Section 2 to go with the Headers and Catted Section 1 and the SCZA Muffler. Turns out he had one left in stock so I decided to get it! I got the Burnt Titanium Tips to go with it.

Seth these mufflers ship out in a week or so I was told. He had some issues with the tips.

Basically I put the car up on all 4 Ramps. You have to face them away from the jack points so you can get the jack in there. Once up on the ramps I place two small 2x4 blocks of wood on the jack to get the additional height to get the wood platforms underneath the ramps. Jack it up slowly. [emoji16]

Wait what? How is the precat wire too short? It's like less than 2' from the valve cover to the pre cat on the header.

I was able to connect it. I had it attached to the retaining clip on the bell housing instead of the heat shield so it made it about 2" shorter going that route. Calling it a night. [emoji45]

I remember you saying that and YES I sure would! I did a bunch of other things while I was installing the headers like the CPV and Spark Plugs etc. Oh and I had to unbolt the rear header last night to get the Sect 1 to line up. So frustrating! Now both the header pipes touch right before the flanges, is this OK?

It does feel good doing it yourself, knowing how everything works and what's what etc. this project was the longest, most frustrating I've ever done. I've installed headers on both my trucks, full exhaust including a downpipe on my 2500HD and this by far was the biggest PITA ever. Glad to see the end is near.

Finally got everything done last Sunday. This was a huge PITA to say the least. The car runs so much better and sounds like a pissed off lion! To be honest the SCZA muffler sounds great under full acceleration but it's kinda annoying cruising in town. It also has some drone on the highway. All of SGT products are top notch! The welds and construction are a thing of beauty. Here's some photos.

Ok after all that work installing the exhaust installing some spacers was a piece of cake!! I bought some Turner 12.5's for the rear and 15's for the front. I'm running 245's up front with 275's on the rear. What a diff spacers make! Love the way it looks now. Seems to handle a little better also.

Gary, with your headlight lens tinted... you do notice any diminishing light while driving at night? I tried going this route many years ago and my best friend (a police officer) told me that I wouldn't like it and that here in Rhode Island I would get lots of unwanted attention. I tried it anyway because I do like the look but found the dark tint took away too much night time light for my tastes. Hopefully you're not having any issues with yours :thumbsup

WOLFN8TR

Honestly I can't tell any difference. I went with the light smoke (6%) vs the dark smoke (12%). I tinted one lens and went for a drive at night, barely any difference at all.

Here's some photos with new lenses and tinted Lamin-X in the driver side only.
