That's a sweet deal for anyone with an auto. You'd still need an SMG clock spring but from there the retrofit is pretty simple.

Hmmm! How much is a clock spring and how hard to find? How hard is it to retrofit?

Used clock springs are around $60 or $70. The retrofit it easy, there is a DIY. Wheel, clock spring, wiring harness. It's plug and play after that. I bought a harness from someone who already had the setup, but they are not hard to make.

^ yes, pretty easy to do and a great mod. Now go find a clock SMG spring!

I can attest to how it really adds to the auto experience. Not quite SMG, but it is cool when hitting up the twisties or just around town.

Anybody selling a SMG clockspring around here? I have the SMG steering wheel and the airbag - just need the clockspring to make it all come together. Thanks!

Yup, e46f.c. ausmod over there tends to part out M3s so he could have one. Don't forget you need the wiring harness.

Already tried there and people were asking ridiculous prices for those (I am better off paying $106 for a new one from ECStuning). The wiring harness I plan to make on my own from the instructions posted here:

I think that's what Sean Pippen did--and I bought mine from him.

Yea I just bought new since it wast terrible and wanted to do it rather than sit and wait for an amazing deal on e46f. Wiring harness was easy to make if you can solder and allows the ability to swap out easily enough. It is possible to just tap into wires, but by adding $30-40 for the harness you won't have to tap into the wires. If you can't find the DIY online let me know and I probably still have my order notes for PNs.

Hi Sean,

Could you please verify for me if the parts mentioned in the following DIY are correct and the same ones you used for the retrofit harness? Thanks!

(Apologies OP, we are crapping all over your thread, but you are also getting free bumps :) If this is against the rules, please let me know and I will create a separate thread for this. Thanks!)

That's the same thread I used. I thought I was trying to help sell the wheel by getting folks interested in doing the mod ;)

I thought you were going to buy this wheel and that's why you were asking the questions.

Actually it is sold. The seller has not updated the post. I bought it from him and its now sitting and waiting for me across the border at Ogdensburg, NY :)

I was just confused and thought that this thread was for a different Steering wheel on E46F.
