Hey just wondering but what should a thorough PPI include? Besides the standard cosmetics, what should I look for a mechanic to do after he pops the hood or puts the car on a lift. On that note, anyone have any recommendations to where I can have a PPI done in and around Houston TX if I'm buying out of state? :blink Done some searches but don't even know what I should look for them to do yet. Most thorough I can find is a so called 600 pt inspection that they fail to describe.

I would think that if the mechanic was any good, they would look at everything with a fine-toothed comb...

It should include a look at every inspection included in Service I and II.

pleasecorrupt,
Do a Google on "independent BMW shops in Houston" (I found a few), then read their reviews and go with the one you feel most comfortable with. The guy with the 600 pt inspection, he's a generalist inspecting a Chevy before a BMW. You want the guys who work on them day in and day out, they know the issues/problems and can tell you how its been taken care of.

bimrs.org is a good resource for independent BMW shops... as is your local BMW CCA newsletter/magazine.
There's a WIKI at Bimmerfest.com (http://www.bimmerfest.com/wiki/index.php/BMW_E46)with a lot of great information about common E46 issues, tho any good indy should know what to look for, you should also be armed with the information.
