Dropped my newly refinished (yet again) BBS wheels off to my Indy today. Picked up parts boxes and the old parts tonight as well.
He was doing an M3 subframe reinforcement tonight but is dedicating tomorrow to finishing my car.
- BMWP bbk install in the front
- paint rear calipers black
- install wheels and check clearance
- set ride height after installing rear spring cups (weren't included in Coilovers I purchased)
I have an appointment at the BMW Store of Cincinnati Monday at 1:45pm for an alignment. My Indy lives right around the corner from the dealer so I'll be going straight there after picking it up Monday. Get the car back to the house and do a thorough detail the rest of the day/evening as the car is a mess (I feel embarrassed taking it to BMW Monday as it sits but it's not worth it to pick it up Sunday drive it all the way back to KY then go back to cinci Monday.

The alignment took damn near 3 hours so by the time I got the car back, did another few brake pad set ins, fought cinci traffic, and stopped over at a friends to show him I was in no mood for a full detail. I washed the car and threw some tire shine on. Brakes feel great and the car rides the same as well. Super stoked on how it looks, it's really sinister as hell.

Took the car on a 150ish mile shake down out to the GFs place in Indiana on Tuesday, it was 75/sunny/windows down perfect weather and the car performed perfectly. Probably one of the last few drives out there as we sign on our place Monday.
Next thing I need to do is polish the car really well. This is going to involve me actually getting decent detail stuff. I was heavy into detailing for profits years ago and the dealing domain has changed drastically. I was using misty megiuars stuff back then and was oblivious to what's out there. Basically a newbie now, so detailers domain will take some of my money for an orbital and various supplies when the time comes.

After driving the car a few times my sprint booster impression is this:
I didn't even notice the difference until I did a full throttle 4th gear and pushed the button for each setting. That's when I noticed the SLIGHT difference. I figured it would be much more noticeable and that's the only way I notice it really. As of now I leave it on "green" when I'm driving. All in all, I'm very under impressed but this mod.

Personally I feel all the throttle type units, such as the PedalBox and SprintBooster, lack finesse. I've tried the SprintBooster and hated it, so I bought a PedalBox unit as it was supposed to be better. It is more linear than the SprintBooster, but still doesn't feel right. It lacks the finesse at the very top of the pedal travel that allows for smooth low-speed driving. It's great for rev-matching my downshifts, but I can't for the life of me get a smooth enough throttle transition when upshifting while driving normally.
Honestly, I'm used to the stock mapping, and prefer it over the SB and PB units. If I want to go faster, I just give it more gas. lol
It's not like they actually make your car go any faster. :dunno

my brother in law has the sprint booster plus the tune by eurocharged and headers . From a dead stop the damn car jerks so bad when taking off the peddle is super sensitive . now that i purchase one and install it in my car . The car feels 50% less responsive compare to his. huge difference dont know if its the tune or headers or just both .

IDK, is there a difference in models or something? I'm not experiencing anything negative with mine. In fact, it's pretty awesome. Everyone that has driven my car says that too... that's BMW drivers and non BMW drivers. My two friends that traded off driving my car to SC said it was an awesome experience. I have a Dinan stage 3 tune...
The only reason I'm selling mine is that I want the M3 cluster more and I'm doing FI down the road which you can't use the SB with...

I'm going to update the OP tomorrow with the new items/mileage/etc.
After driving the car more over the last week I've come to terms in a more positive light about the SB. I think it just took me a little while to get used to and actually notice the difference. Rev matching is more fun now. I'd probably rate it a solid 7.5 out of 10 mod.
Next thing I need to do is build up a whole new inventory of detailing supplies including an orbital, etc along with a detail cart and wheeled stool to sit on. Then have my buddy teach me his ways of detailing. His black B8 S4 looks like a piece of glass.

To be honest I'm not the most technical/automotive/science savvy dude. I had a 1998 VW GTI VR6 with a stg3 VF supercharger setup years ago and it was an amazing car. Great boost at 8-9psi, sounded wicked at WOT or idling, and got me a few speeding tickets. To me, I know VF. They've been around and are tried and true. I'm not super familiar with ESS but obviously they put out a product people like. The VF setup allows for easier maintenance and intall in my opinion. Aesthetically, it looks nicer to me and it definitely sounds better. Kinda let's people know something is going on under there if they know anything about cars.

I've hand waxed this car probably 3 times since I got it. Today, I went to my long time friends house and he walked me through the updated/modern ways of detailing a car. Products used:
Griots foaming wash
Auto scrub fine grade sponge
Sonax fallout cleaner
Sonax perfect finish
Menzerna heavy cut compound
Auto Finesse paint prep
Sonax carnuba wax
Three shots of the in progress and a shot of the hood. Man did my paint come back. Doing all of this in preparation for a show in Louisville KY called Eurodistrict. Haven't been to a euro show in a few years so it was a good excuse to clean the car up. Plus my younger siblings live in Louisville as well. I'll post a few pics up of the finished product from the show this weekend.

Yeah, I def want to do the rear as well it that's another $1k roughly. I want to do the LED tails then focus on getting my total suspension refresh/lift on my T4R done along with new brakes on all 4 corners and new wheels/tires. Only thing I need to buy is the lift, brakes/nearly all poly bushings/control arms/TRD pro wheels/BF 34 inch tires are all in the garage.

So: I always wash my car when it’s cold (hasn’t been driven) and I’ve noticed ever since installing the EBC reds/BMWP rotors and calipers that the soap and water leaves a residue on the rotors that I have to “bust off” by driving it after up and down the driveway and applying brake. Last Saturday I took the car to C&C one last time locally and as I pulled it out of the garage I got a loud brake “pop” from the front right. From that point on it felt like I had an unbalanced wheel on the front right. I noticed some etching/black marks in the shape of a pad on that rotor. Took it to my Indy one last time today and essentially the ceramic EBC pad was rusting to the rotors after washing. He suggested driving it enough Post wash to put some heat into everything and evaporate it all. This problem is something totally new to me and had no idea. He took a whiz wheel and lightly dusted the rotors on the front and back all the way around and it’s substantially better. He suggested to use the brakes and it will eventually get the rest gone. Also had a new OE window reg put in the passenger front as I started getting the crunchies 2 weeks ago.
Have you guys ever heard of that brake issu before? Think it’s strange but at the same time I understand it given the compounds of both rotor and pad.
Leaving for the move to DC Friday morning this week at 3am so I’m glad it wasn’t a major expensive fix, $200 parts and labor fixed her up today. Really gonna miss my Indy, he’s such a good dude. Hopefully I can find a guy or shop out in DC that’s as nice.

Sounds like normal behavior to me... but I drive my car super often so it's very rare I have that problem. It has happened before though, where I didn't drive it immediately after. He gave you solid advice - go for a drive after the wash, enough to heat up the brakes and get rid of what may have formed.

I ran mine for years until the second pair I had crapped out again. They are plug an play, no coding needed. They have resistors on them to prevent any bulb out warnings.
The only thing I recommend you do, is add some weather stripping on the inside area of the light. It's difficult trying to explain it, but when you pop your trunk, and look at the drivers side tail light, there is a cover on the light right by the gasket. This cover prevents water from getting in when water runs through the trunk drain and exits through the bottom of the trunk. If you look at the Eagle Eye LED's, they don't have this covering, its just exposed. I went ahead and added some weather stripping in that location so water doesn't get in, and with the trunk closed you never see it.

Sometime during your training, you need to head over to the Globe & Laurel for lunch or dinner, it’s a must see for those who go thru the schools on the west side of Quantico. If you have it, bring one of your old LEO patches, they have quite the collection on the ceiling, they love it when you add one. And if you should get over there, my office is about a mile & a half south of the restaurant, I have a M-ATV inside right now and will have a JLTV stopping by a couple of times over the next few months. Everything has shown up for the install. My Indy said he can’t reglue the pillars without it showing but recommended a good apholstry shop so I’ll have to get that done after this other stuff.
I went to autozone to buy my mobil1 5w40 full synthetic motor oil today and they don’t carry it anymore. Neither does o’reillys. Ended up ordering it off amazon but even then the selections were limited (normally I get a 5qt jug which they didn’t have so I had to order a case plus 2 separate quarts)

I’ve always ran 5w40 in both my previous ZHP and this one. Why?
Because that is a weird oil viscosity to run.
Most people use Mobil 1 from Walmart that is 0w40 or 5w30 BMW oil or Liqui Moly.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that weight of oil. The only reason they recommend thinner oil is for fuel economy. I'm going to be switching to a thicker viscosity next oil change

Finally got my A and C pillars back. the fabric color was the best they could find and I think the color will match pretty damn well. the material does, at least to me so far, appear to be slightly thicker. I won't be able to properly compare it and provide a photo until after they are reinstalled when I pick my car up tomorrow evening. As long as the material is close or spot on in color to the headliner/B pillars I could care less because they won't have sagging fabric anymore. Maybe down the road I can buy new OEM pieces to replace these recovered ones.

Picked the car up from my Indy last night. Overall, impressed with how hard the HU pushes the BSW Sgt1 speakers. They are much louder and crisp. The doors feel more "solid" after the dynamat install as well.
The pillars were rewrapped by a Boat and RV place my Indy recommended. Another customer of his with 14 sub 20k mile E30 M3s (one pictured below that happened to be there yesterday) has had work done to perfection there. Overall, I'd rate it a 8.5 out of 10 only because the material is slightly thicker and the "grain" is slightly different than the OEM stuff. You can't tell this unless you get right up on it so I'm happy, its not sagging anymore.
As far as the HU goes, I haven't had a chance to play with it too much but having 2 more inches of display landscape is great. It boots quick, operates flawlessly, and has tons of options for it. I adjusted the button glow on the sides to match the interior (it does 8 gazillion colors apparently). 2 USB hook ups were ran to the glove box that will work for iPods/etc. The only thing I hate on it as of now that I haven't figured out how to turn off is that the HU shuts off the music when its in reverse. I don't know how to remedy this as of now. He did have to trim parts of the dash on each of the SIDES to allow this to sit flush, but it wasn't much and definitely isn't noticeable.
I also lastly installed the M3 dead pedal I ordered off ECS. ZHPizza kindly told me I was 'tarded which I was. I did a general search at the top of their site and it pulls up every dead pedal but the one for sedan. Had I entered in my vehicle info I would have found it quite easily. My bad, haha. Now I just need the rest of the BMWP pedal set to complete it. Anyways, on to some boring pics.

I plugged in my iPod and hit the iPod button to open on the HU and it opens briefly then closes right away. Don’t know what’s going on with that but as of now I can’t listen to my iPod.
I left the car in the garage hooked up to the ctek charger so it can stay running in an attempt to initiate the download for Waze while we are out for lunch.

Waze downloaded and works great on all of my headunits. It sounds like you're getting a weak wifi signal in the garage (the receivers on these units are not so great). I usually do my downloading over a hotspot through my work phone with free data. You'll definitely want to hotspot your phone while using Waze too, as it needs a data connection to work.

At 107k currently with the car and I’m bored with it, it’s time for a serious change. I’ve decided to try and supercharge the car come spring time. With the mileage on the car, what would you recommend also replacing during this installation that is directly or indirectly effected by the adding of these parts (VF kit not a twin screw)?
Sockethead
09-27-2018, 03:09 PM
Anything in the fuel and ignition system that hasn't been refreshed should be done. If you haven't done plugs lately you should replace those.
The fuel filter has the fuel regulator in it and that pretty important to be consistent so you should make sure that's been replaced recently.
If you haven't checked the rubber bits in the drive train, you should inspect those too. Think engine mounts trans mounts, guibo, center bearing, diff bushings etc. If you haven't done your diff bushings yet, they are probably already torn. I replaced mine with poly because I tore two sets, granted, ten of thousands miles apart but you be adding a significant amount of power and there is a lot of slop in the rubber diff bushings...
The supercharger in my car added over 100 HP and ft lbs of torque. That's pretty significant.
Good your going with the VF because ESS has discontinued the TS series for the e46. The centrifugal should make some decent HP, it will just be further up the RPM band than a twin screw...

Good point! You'll still be using the stock intake manifold.
Check the condition of all you vacuum lines too. Especially the one that goes to the fuel filter/regulator. That one has a habit of deteriorating.
You should be able to get a hold of the installation instructions before you buy so you can see all that is involved...

Went to harbor freight today and bought a jack for the first time in my life along with some other tools in order to put the Style 135s on for the first time in 1.5 years. Took the first wheel off and quickly realized that they weren't going to fit/didn't know I would need a spacer for the fronts. It's very close to not hitting but it looks like I'll need a 3-5mm spacer. Took the opportunity to clean the wheel wells, backs of the CHs, and the calipers while the front wheels were off. Then I cleaned up the 135s in preparation for when they go on sometime in the near future, just need to source the spacers.

Finally getting around to posting some pics, even though they aren't that exciting. Got the spacers in, ordered them off of Ebay x2 and I'm pretty happy with the quality of them. Shipping was super fast as well. My two rear CHs were ever so slightly rusted/stuck on the hub so after busting them off, I applied anti-seize to all the hubs and spacers. Overall it went smooth and the car was smoother (obviously) riding on the larger meat (that's what she said). Put the car in storage for the next 3 or so months until the snow and salt go away.

Debating on what to do next with the car, I feel mildly bored with it which is an odd feeling to have. I really want to do different wheels but multipiece BBS instead of the CHs, but this may run between 2-3k for wheels. The other more feasible option is to complete the BMWP brakes by getting rears and new rotors/pads all off ECS. The other minor thing I can do it get BMWP pedals to complete the set (already have the sedan ///M foot rest).
Need to repaint the bumper this spring as well and would love to install a full CF front lip spoiler but don’t know where to find one.

He stated I should need longer brake lines, the 135i carrier bolts to mount them and not use the ZHP ones, and M3 rotors need to be utilized? Can anyone who has completed this 135i rear brake swap elaborate on this?
I did find this as well:

I just need confirmation from someone that has actually done this install that the short list of items is all I need:
Longer lines, M3 dust covers, M3 rotors

Jacob, I test fitted my setup on my ZHP (before I sold it) with Botond’s help and the M3 rotors fit and the rotor offset lined up perfectly with the 135i rear calipers. Only issue was that the M3 rear rotors needed about 2mm shaved off the diameter not the width.
If you try using the 330i rear rotors the offset of the rotors won’t be enough and won’t line up to the 135i rear calioers and therefore not work.
The 330 ebrake will also work with the M3 rear rotors as well.

How would you go about shaving diameter off of a rotor? I’ve never heard of that ever.

The guy who did this mod to his BMW said this is what he had to do to make it work. He then said any machine shop should be able to do this but I never found one and then ended up selling off my ZHP...

My brother is planning to take my car here soon down to Louisville for a refinish/respray of my front bumper and hood. He will also be painting my calipers Phoenix yellow. All in all $600 for that work.
I’m going to have him take my car to a shop down there that I used in the past for a DME update. This got rid of my 4K issue in my 1st ZHP, hoping for the same with this car.

Well, Stein Automotive in Louisville has said my software is the latest out. Guess I’ll have to live with the 4K for now. They found some other minor issues that I’ll address later on this spring. Off to the body shop it goes.
Anyone have suggestions for rear diff bushings that are poly but still feel OE?

Final tape off and completed paint, car should be reassembled by Wednesday or so. Probably will have to let the paint cure on the calipers for another few weeks before having them put on but I think everything looks markedly better without the rock chips and wear from over the years.

Went and got the car from my brother in Louisville yesterday morning. Today I washed the entire car, clay bar from the front doors back, waxed the entire car, removed the 135s (cleaned them for storage), wiped down the brakes and suspension components, waxed the CHs and mounted them, light interior cleaning, and a quick test drive. Installed a CF cabin filter cover as well that I scooped up over winter. The car is ready to go. Now, on to the 135i rear brake upgrade along with doing all the rear end bushings.
