sounds like the owner hydrolocked his engine....not sure I would pay the price for this car with a dead engine though...that is if I was looking to get an E36 ///M...

I have a friend who did just that (Euro E36 ///M motor swap) and passes emissions here in Rhode Island.

This car was on a New England FB group I'm on. They owner was talking about how it was hydolocked and he didn't feel like dealing with the problems. I can't find the post now though, but there were a TON of comments on his post.
$6,500 seems very high for an E36 M3 that it NOT running...

Yeah but his isn't 96+, correct? If his is a 95 or older, it is running OBDI, and it wouldn't be a problem passing emissions as the tests for OBDI are pretty basic.
With OBDII, which the above listed car is, he won't pass emissions because the testing goes based on what the car is supposed to have (a 98 (OBDII) M3. That's why I can't just swap in a S38 into my car, for example; it's an OBDI setup and my car registers as an OBDII officially, so they run OBDII tests.
I'm not sure about other states, but in CT it is illegal to swap an engine from an OLDER car in, even if it is just one model year older yet is the same exact engine. So, because the S50B30 and S50B32 engines never had pre- and post-cat O2 sensors, so they don't meet OBDII compliance.
