View Full Version : The Infamous BMW Performance Strut Bar (Carbon Fibre)

Hi All,

I am new to the forum so thanks for letting me join.

I am based in Sydney, Australia and while the ZHP was never sold here I have an E46 with M54 and 'M Performance Package'.

The carbon fibre BMW Performance Strut Bar was never sold down under, but I was wondering if anyone is looking to part with theirs? Am extremely keen to buy one, so please let me know if you are interested in selling.

Happy to pay up to $700 - $800 including shipping to Australia or even more but must be perfect condition.

Good luck finding one! They are prone to crack, though, so beware buying one and having it snap on you.

Interesting you post these strut bars are "prone to crack" Dario just because BP's cracked.

I disagree on this comment. There are several other members here who have this strut bar mounted including myself. I don't have any cracks on either of my strut bars and also have to navigate thru rough roads/potholes where I live. I also don't hear from other members that they're experiencing cracs/failures on their Performance strut bars.....

I can't find the ONLY other instance of this happening anywhere online. You can't say it's prone to cracking with only one documented case in recent memory. If it was prone to this issue then you'd see lots of threads about it. I wouldn't go around saying this just because it happened to me.

Regardless, we should stay on topic instead of letting this thread stray.

Like I've said to BP, I've seen this happen a few times. Two instances mentioned here. One was on M3Forum and the last was on E46Fanatics.

Have you even seen a metal one crack or bend permanently?

Regardless, I think most people buy a strut bar not really expecting it to snap in half, especially if they are paying lots of money for it.

Sure, most people won't ever experience any issues. Doesn't mean OP shouldn't be aware of it. Perhaps he's never heard of them cracking, so I figured I'd tell him it has happened before he spends almost $1,000 on one.

Welcome. Feel free to introduce yourself and more details about your car (including pics) in our New Members section. As you know those strut bars are hard to find. You might want to keep an eye on the classifieds on e46fanatics.com as well.

As for the cracking, it appears Dario has heard of 4 instances. So, while I would not say they are "prone to cracking", I do appreciate that he pointed out that he's heard of 4 instances out of (who knows how many) sold.

I don't think it would be possible to get it shipped for that price. Market value seems to be right about there if not a bit more. Good luck on the search though. I know if I were to start tracking I would actually not use the strut bar and replace it with a different one for the time being.
