So last week out of the blue, I'm coming home from dinner and at a stop in traffic I notice a pretty rough idle that hasn't gone away since. When I start the car up it doesn't start happening until the engine warms up and starts idling under 1000 RPM. When it's really bad it almost sounds like a popping or misfiring but this seems to be intermittent. Usually it's just a rough idling but when I give any amount of gas it goes away. The car drives fine and there seems to be no power loss. Yesterday driving home from work my Service Engine Soon light comes on and hasn't gone off since. I haven't ran anything yet to see if it throws any codes but I will have to do that this weekend. The car is a 2004 with 77K. Has any one have anything similar happen or have any experience with this?

Thanks

Check the lower intake boot

If that's good, then I'd narrow it down to the disa or the vanos

Update your DME as well. Maybe new O2 sensors.

A bit more involved, but yes, I updated mine in my driveway.

Need a battery tender too, to ensure stable battery level.

My e90 had rough idle and SES due to a bad coil. But, the symptoms were there all the time. Your situation seems slightly different. GL.

I have the roll around high power battery tender/charger when you're ready to do this.

I just used a regular charger... Not sure if it's different. Maintained 14.0V throughout the whole thing.
