Very interesting find on Autotrader. Certainly overpriced, but looks extremely clean. 6-speed SMG 325iT, with ZSP, black on black. 72k miles.

As BP said a car is worth what someone will pay for it.

Data point, I recently sold a 323iT 5-spd with more than twice the miles. I got the usual tire kickers and internet experts claiming my asking price was way too high. Note, my price was not in the same range as this car. The car sold in less than 7 days. The first guy to come see the car bought it. I didn't get the full asking price but close and I was satisfied with the deal.

The listing got picked up on a popular cars for sale site. There were similar comments there. I guarantee I could have gotten full price had I waited for another buyer or negotiated more. But a quick, hassle free sale was worth a few hundred dollars to me.

Back to this car. The seller, Concord Motorsport is a BMW shop catering to enthusiasts. I bet this one goes for close to the asking price. This car is RARE.

The difference between ZHP pricing and this touring though is that you get a LOT more for your money with a ZHP.

Are you sure it's SMG1?
I thought it was SMG1 that was utilized in some euro Euro E36 M3's? I don't think they would put such an old transmission into the E46 chassis...

EDIT: I looked it up. Apparently this 325 has the SSG gearbox (Sport Sequential Gearbox). That is where it differs from SMG (Sequential Manual Gearbox). Functionally they operate the same way, but the SSG is a lesser version of it that may not be as aggressive or as refined. That makes them different mechanically.

From what I'm reading, SSG was later renamed to SMG for marketing reasons. It's pretty confusing and can't seem to find concrete information in the few minutes I have left for lunch. :(

SMG1 = E36 M3 Euro
SMG2 = E46 M3
SMG3 = E60 M5

SSG (later BMW changed it to SMG) = E46 325 and 330, Z4, E60. SMG1 was the Euro version that was later adapted to US usage and renamed SSG. SSG was first offered as a 5-speed and moved onto a 6-speed later on.

From what I have heard... SSG tends to be troublesome, annoying, and jerky. People tend to think the SSG is SMG because of this...
