Dude, don't even try to understand. The longest I've ever owned a car is 10 months, and that isn't about to change soon. :rofl It's just a thing I do. No shame in admitting that I am very "typical Russian" when it comes to how long I keep cars.

I still don't regret selling it. I miss it, for sure, but if I'm keeping a car long term it's gotta be the right color. OB was nice... but I didn't love it.

Okay guys, question. AKG now produces a solid aluminum steering coupler for $5 more than their poly one. Since the poly is practically fixed as it is, I was wondering if I should get the aluminum one. There is AUDIBLE click when I rock the wheel back and forth; current one is dead.

What do you all think?

I need to install the steering coupler, the AKG FCABs, and try to find the clicking/squeaking coming from the front. Been driving me crazy. Other than that, I have not much else I want to do. I feel like life is too busy for me to enjoy cars the way I used to. Not even sure I'm gonna keep the M anymore. AKG coupler in. But of a pain in the arse because I had to do some machining and drilling but it's in there and OMG does it change everything.

Steering is instantly heavier. I thought I needed new CABs but damn that is not the problem. Steering is super precise. Not only that, during a turn, it locks into the steering angle you gave it. No need to constantly adjust.

Very satisfied. Would go with poly, though, given the chance.

That is what mine sounded like. Till I realized the steering shaft is hollow so any noise from the engine bay gets transferred to the wheel.

I removed the coupling and sprayed inside of it as well as the threads on the steering rack.

Also switched to 6 new NGK plugs. Already had the same NGK plugs in there and they were in pretty good shape. Replaced them anyway.
Sprayed lube on my coupler but sound is persisting.

Also, I think I've closed in on what I want to do this summer for a project (gonna have 4 months off as I transfer to UC Davis). Pretty much decided I'm gonna sell the M3 and buy a sedan. Either black, silver gray, white, or Imola if it's a ZHP. Maybe another color if I can't pass it up, but that's what I want. Then, I'm going to commit the most atrocious thing thinkable and swap in an S54 with an SMG. Sorry. Much easier to find SMG powerplants and complete swaps from verts, and I'm itching for something different. It makes me wish I bought that Phoenix Yellow M3 instead, but eh, no looking back now. Holy hell, you are guys are still here! (just kidding, I'm not surprised)

So as it stands, I don't think I'll be selling the M3. Plans are always tentative when it comes to me and my cars, but that's the gist of of it right now.

Also, I posted it to the FB group, but I just installed (almost) brand new PSS on the car that I found on CL for $300. However, my front tires had severe cupping and inner wear down to the cords. I'd rather not have the same fate befall the PSS, so I need to hurry and figure out what the issue is. The car was realigned after I bought it so alignment is no longer an issue, although the tires already had the inner wear when I got the ride. So what is the most likely culprit? Is it the control arm bushings, the tie rods, or something else? My suspension is heavily worn out so that could also be playing a role in wearing them out.

Yeah I had to lift up the ET and the secondary air pump and get underneath them with the wrench to get the right angle. They really should have the put the nut right on edge of the tensioner, not at the base of it.

Let me know. There's another product from the company called Ceratec. It bonds ceramic to all metal surfaces for a less porous surface and gives a more smooth surface for moving parts. Ceratec lasts for a longer duration but is more expensive.

Yeah, I heard about that one. This stuff is $8 for 300mL. Figure if you do it every oil change, or half of the bottle every oil change, it's good aid for an engine that has such a weak point in the rod bearings. I still want to replace my rod bearings eventually, though.

Just made a list of stuff I want to do to the car. It's over 3 pages long. I definitely overpaid for the car knowing that it's been repainted completely at this point, and that it will need it again, but I honestly think I'm just gonna stick it through. Finding another manual isn't easy, and I'm already in the seat of this one. Lot's of work coming my way.

Also, I think I want to delete my windshield washer tank. I hardly ever use it, it's extra weight, and the headlight nozzles are deactivated anyway. What do you guys think? I'd have to measure the resistance and install inline, but it shouldn't be hard. Or I'll just plastidip my washer tank black so it's not visible and remove my fog brackets.

Hmm...that's one of those things that I personally would want to have around even if I don't use it much, but maybe it's different for you. On any extended trip I tend to collect bugs, bird shit, and anything else you can think of that smear up the windshield, and in those moments the windshield washer is a godsend. Yes, you can always stop at a gas station or somewhere to wash/scrape that stuff off, but I prefer the convenience of the windshield washer while I'm still moving. Also, I would bet you don't save more than 20-25 lbs max from the tank, lines, and fluid, so for me, that extra weight is worth the convenience. Again, it's all up to your priorities.

Mine has had a leak somewhere for over a year now and keep telling myself I'll fix it next week, and it keeps getting pushed off 'till the winter hits, at which point I'm kicking myself for not fixing it. Long trips definitely require a washer system...

No idea. Gonna experiment. I hear good things, though. And considering the rod bearing issue on this car I figured it made sense to give it a shot. Will report back.

i used to add molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) to my oil every few changes, my dad started doing it a long time ago and gave me a bottle (i still have it). expensive stuff. but it makes everything incredible slippery. i actually ended up 'losing' oil on a few cars i used it in, and stopped using it. i still can't figure out what happened or what could possibly be bad about adding it, as more lubrication in the lubrication system can't be a bad thing.

It probably helped the oil "slip" out of wherever it may have been leaking much easier than it would have otherwise. :dunno

Oil change, MoS2 treatment, Mahle oil and fuel filters.

Also filled up my washer tank. ;)

Interesting note, if you buy the 5L jug of LiquiMoly 10w-60, as well as the 300mL treatment, it's enough to fill up the engine. No need to buy that spare one quart or two whole jugs.

Getting some real bad banging from the diff. Need to replace the bushings i assume. I can't decide on whether I should go with AKG street poly or with OEM. My diff whine is pretty loud as it is so noise isn't really a concern... But there doesn't really seem to be any consensus about it. Any input?

I'd lube them but they don't squeak bc there's not alot of movement in the diff. bushings, esp. compared the FCAB/RTAB. If you daily the M though, I'd just go OEM. Personal preference, but no need to go poly all around and brace every bump you go over.

Nope, no squeaking. I have AKG poly diff bushings and RTABs. I used to get a small squeak before I replaced the RTABs when the car is at an angle going into a driveway (the OE ones were in there previously) but I don't get it anymore.

All is super quiet with regards to squeaks, regardless of the temperatures.

Haha. Not sure if you're sarcastically offended or serious, Trevor! But yeah, I have seen enough people run this to know I can use it without going to the OE fluid. About to test drive!

Let me know how it goes after a while!! I will change my diff fluid soon. I eff the Internet too. I use my common sense. Most of the time. Not sure if it always works though.

Much quieter but I haven't hit the highway yet. Will test more tomorrow on the way to the gym.

this is what I need to do to my rear diff when the fluid is set to be changed.

Also rear sway bar delete probably improves handling :)

Got a weird issue. OBD2 scanner doesn't work, and doesn't work only for my car. Is something wrong with the port? Fuses are fine.

Haha, no Matt. You can buy it if you want!

Also, bought a Colby Wheel from Johal. Cheaper than getting mine wrapped because I now keep an additional wheel. Gonna lift my car and check the alignment on my steering coupler because my clock spring keeps clicking and it's driving me mad.

Bad connection with the scanner? Or have you tried it on other cars?

Bad obdII port or connected wiring is all I can think of.

Echoing Dane. Pull the driver lower dash and check the connection to the port, it should be fine, but could be the reason you can't comm. with your car.

Gonna dig into that on Saturday or Sunday. Valve adjustment planned for Sunday. Been a while since I've wrenched. Also need to take my aluminum coupler off and see why my steering wheel keeps making the groaning/creaking noise when I turn. Pissing me off already. Probably just not on perfectly straight.
