Go to DDM Tuning to replace your fog HIDs. You can get a new Slim ballast 35W HID kit for $29.95

http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/08/17/9ezynyza.jpg

This is the kit I have installed in both my cars Shawn...had them over three trouble-free years so far :thumbsup

Shawn, the kit comes in pairs so for the money these kits are awesome. I run 6000k presently but would recommend 5000k for a more white appearance. You will also get more distance with white but then get the 5000k D2S bulbs from this site as well so you have even color distribution on your lighting :thumbsup

The kits and bulbs are very cheap and last a long time :thumbsup

I can't figure out if TRUNK LID GRIP WITH KEY BUTT (51-13-7-170-966) actually separates. The pics I've seen show it in multiple pieces, but it sure doesn't want to come apart.

Update on repairing the license plate light. I dropped the trunk liner and disconnected the trunk grip mechanism. Heat gun, flat tip and non-marring pry tool did the rest.
There are 8 tabs on the painted cover. There is also some type of adhesive.

hey shawn,

i had the same issue with the license plate light on mine - it was very badly corroded. i ended up fixing it for about $3 in parts.

i don't have any pics (i don't take them while i work on stuff ;) ), but what i ended up doing was buying a small generic lamp at the auto parts store (with a similar-sized bulb), and then mounting it to the original gray plastic piece (that has the hole burned through it - mine had the same hole!).

i'll see if i can pop the assembly out and get a pic for you. took me an hour but was well worth the effort (and cost savings).

Also, might be worth a call to ask the upholstery/accessory shop near my office here in Arlington if they could repair the Alcantara, I've seen the work they've done on a co-workers leather seats, top notch. Fair pricing as well according to him.

nice, i guess you fixed the light for the safety test?

i actually butt-spliced the wires from the replacement bulb assembly into the existing wires, as they had corroded so much that one of the wires was not even attached to the bulb-holding assembly anymore. :)

i electrical-taped it up tightly to prevent moisture ingress and it works great!

Depending on the cup, you can close the slide and hold it in place a bit.

I'm thinking of trying plastidip on it and the other parts of the console and the black cube. I can always peel it...

Plastidip works great for the console. You sand down the surface and then just put on a few coats. Quick and easy

Technically there is no "repair" solution for it... I say this because:

I'm of the opinion of there being no substitute for replacement. Spraying it doesn't look good at all, IMO, and definitely doesn't feel good to the touch.

I actually had that "feeling" around 170k-ish miles that I should probably order a replacement because I didn't want to be stranded. Me being me, I kept the new one in my trunk until mine failed because I wanted to get my money's worth. It ended up lasting until 191k miles, at which point I pulled into a rest area, had my friend bring me to league, and we went back afterwards and replaced that bad boy. Win. :thumbsup

Also, I finally went by Sure-Fit today, told them about the A-pillars and she immediately said it's better to just go ahead and get the replacements so the fabric matches (also would be cheaper). As for the seat, she said a clean/condition would make them look and feel that much better that you wouldn't mind the slight wear. Otherwise, she gave me the card of another business that could dye the worn areas. Showed her the pictures you sent me of your seat just for kicks and she said you'd have to provide the material and it'd be around $300, "we'd have to take the seat apart yada yada..." They were nice though, my friend was joking about how there I was ready to spend money and they basically were like save it for something more important. Which...I have in mind.

As for the rear deck, I may get to it this weekend. Not sure. I bought new c-pillar covers for Colin's car but I think I will use them as mine are staring to flap (I stand by my theory about the open windows accelerating the flapping!). I'll then try to repair my c-pillars to use in his car. If that doesn't work I have time to buy new ones for him.

(Off the car and no rubber if a total refinish/repaint though). The BavAuto kit isn't an exact match IMO and I may just let my guy do it for about $150 total (all wheels). I'm sure he'll do a much better job than I.

I was out the door for $200. Would be $20 more is seat is in car (he has to remove it) and about $60 for the yard he has to order. Shop is in Dumfries, VA near Quantico and Woodbridge off I-95.

You're not looking for a rattle. You can rattle and still be fine. Its the seals that are failed. That's allowing oil blow-by in the VANOS cylinder and loss of pressure. Therefore engagement is slow. You change the seals and beak them in you will feel the difference.

No I actually fucked up and erased one of the data banks for the coding equipment when I was trying to get some memory space cleared up on the laptop. I can read and clear fault codes, but I can't rewrite DMEs or the like. :-(

I took a chance and got a Blackstone analysis done on my last (first for me) oil change---did I really want to know?!

Not too bad!

"This is a great looking BWM at 182,985 miles. Universal averages show typical wear levels for this type of engine after about 6,400 miles on the oil. This oil saw 7,500 miles and wear metals compare perfectly with averages. A lot of metals are actually lower than universal averages and you can't complain about that. The viscosity is in the 5W/40 range and that worked just fine. No fuel or coolant contamination is present and low insolubles and silicon show fine oil and air filtration. You can go longer on the oil if you want, but 7,500 miles is also a good interval."

Good luck finding a replacement piece.

Nice ! My e46 didn't come with home link, and at that time I didn't know you could add one yourself.

My e90 comes with home link. I was able to program it for my parents" garage. But, I could not program it for my own house ! Would like to make it work some day.

At that price, I may just buy one. I had two broken clips, though it still holds well.

Got the Autosolutions SSK installed today. It sure is different--quite a bit more notch. I do like the feel though. The tech said he liked the design and it should last a lot longer--another 182k?? :fingerscrossed
