Do I need the extra washer between the hat and mount?
danewilson77

Should be a washer between the top of the coil and the bottom of strut mount.
Then you should have a lock washer or nylock on top.

Awesome. :) Once I get everything on I'll drop it as low as it goes for shits and gigs!

How do I tighten this 21mm nut on the top?

I think you need an air gun/wrench.

Or try vise grips with a socket. I think that worked for me. (#21) http://www.badenscarpages.ca/e46-shock-strut-replacement/

Hmmm, I ended up using vice grips, but in a different way. Got it done though.

Sweet. I use vice grips as far up as on the coilover shaft as I can get it. Then I use my impact, but you can use a socket as mentioned.

That's exactly what I did.
Does the rear ride height adjuster rest on the old rubber mount?

Not really. This guy has it without the rubber pad beneath. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194689
I tried it like this, but it seems really unstable.

It's not going to be unstable under the weight of car.

It does? Then the spring would be upside down though. The top of the spring fits perfectly with the oem pad.

All finished. As of now the front seems to be about stock height and the back looks half an inch above stock. (should've measured beforehand.) Took the car out for a whirl and the ride felt pretty damn awesome. Once I get my fenders rolled more tomorrow I'll drop it fairly low.
Thanks for all the help, guys. Y'all rock.

I used to have the adjustable perch at the bottom until two things happened:
1. I read my KW V1 directions.
2. Just about every pic I found had them installed at the top.
I really don't think it makes a difference, but wanted it installed per the directions.

They're Double Adjustable coilovers from TC Kline.

Hmmm, the one photo I've seen of these installed has it on the bottom. I didn't get an instruction manual so I'll give TCK a call on monday.

Thanks! That would sure be a lot easier if I didn't have 255s in the back.

Dane, what's the easiest way to adjust the rear ride height? I got frustrated and just disconnected the shocks when I changed mine today.

that is the easiest way. on my car, i just take it out and adjust then put it back in. easier than doing it in the car.

Haha, my tires wouldn't survive though. I'm gonna tweak things around and see what I can do.
Dammit, I did not want to do that every time.

well you could fit the wrench in there around the back and turn it little by little. but it would take longer than to take it out lol
