Took the ZHP on a ski trip today with the gf for V-Day...weather moved in afterwards...had some fun...20-30mph gusts! Also, the Blizzaks earned their keep on the drive home...powering up hills, stopping the car quickly on ice, etc. No issues.

Removed the clutch stop last night and drove all today with the OEM one. Consequently, shifting in the cold seems better and more fluid than before.

I think I never really got used to having the travel be shorter and the engagement point so high as it is in these cars. I like giving it some gas in that dead space and moving off right when it engages. Definitely made it easier to shift so I may test it out again in the Spring :dunno

Let me know when you get your windows tinted. I spoke to the owner of TintFx about Crystalline and it's really pricey. I may just stick to 35% all around from another place I have been getting my cars done at which is in Chantilly.

I got quoted $575 (for crystalline) for the whole car except the windshield. It seems worth getting, but I am just going to get the 3M Color Stable all around.

I somewhat has similar experience. Once I added the higher clutch Stop (for shorter clutch distance) I noticed that getting into 1st was a bit rougher than before, especially in freezing weather lately. However once the car warms up, getting into 1st seemed much easier.

I didn't get a chance to take as elaborate/cool of one as I'd hoped. I'll post the one we did heading home from where that picture was taken, but it was mostly just my lovely narration and brief review of the tires. Yeah, was debating it yesterday...my friend and his dad switched their ZHP's out and my buddy and I switched his STi back to summers at my place...figured it was the "theme of the day." Plus this way I can just drop the car off at Costco and get the Super Sport's put on and Erin can do her thing in the store. Plus my friend said the wheel repair guy says it's easier to work with them on the car which surprised me...

The foglight uses the inner tail-light in a higher voltage setting.

http://i.imgur.com/O6HGcH5.jpg

If you look at the right inner taillight, its brighter than the rest of the taillights. On the sedans, US market uses the inner taillights as parking lights as well. With a little coding, the inner taillight can be controlled by the Euro Rear foglight faceplate. The LCM itself is still the US model to avoid the tamper dot.

No problem. All you really need is the Euro Faceplate. You can swap that to a USDM LCM and change a few lines in NCSexpert and have a working rear foglight without any wiring needed. This is only on the 03+ Sedans of course.

I posted in the Lighting forum or coding forum my spreadsheet and what is required to get it to work properly.

Thanks!! And VA is 50 / 35 but I didn't want to have it be different. Also, didn't want it too dark so 50 was a good medium with the dark interior. Got pulled in my old car with 35 all around...not trying to deal with that...

Plus this tint reflects really well even for 50 so at different angles it looks darker without being dark.

Excellent! Looks really great in that picture.

I remember well how strict Fairfax county officers are with tint. My co-worker had an A4 (2009 I think) that was tinted down the 35% with a black interior. We stopped taking his car for lunch if we had meetings for the afternoon. We were stopped SO often.

Brett, yeah I have the cold weather package, but no headlight washers.

I don't think it'd be that much harder, it might even be easier. There was a plastic piece holding the shelf down that bordered the locking mechanisms for the seats. That took awhile to deal with, I need to get a rivet puller thing.

So it might even be easier Brett, because you can just take the seats out and not deal with them.

What does your VIN say?
The only explanation I can offer as to why some people don't have the washers is that one of the previous owners deleted it. Headlight washers were definitely included in ZCW. It wouldn't surprise me if one of those previous owners got pissed off at the stupid things leaking all the time and had the dealer delete it (or they did it themselves).

Packages consist of numerous options. If you didn't want one of those, you'd have to order the options separately, not in package format, at least in the U.S.

Look for the panel in front, second washer pump in the resevoir, and the other hardware leading to the headlight washers. Check your VIN and see what options are installed. If it says ZCW but you have no headlight washers, it must have been deleted by one of the owners. That is, unless there was a parts shortage that I'm not aware of, but either way it's not supposed to be like that.

Thanks man, and they make wheel changes significantly easier. Just put the wheel on and tighten the nuts, no having to get down and awkwardly sprain your back trying to line up the wheel and maneuver a bolt in! Also, by extension, makes running the spacers easier for the same reason. Just slide them on.

We noticed some rubbing on the way down to the Reunion meet on the highway going over bridge and other roadway depressions, that was with the car loaded down with a large amount of stuff though. I took them off for the return trip because I didn't want to deal with it (did not fender roll). I'm going to add them back on and see how it does around town unloaded and I do plan on a fender roll eventually. Fronts did great, no harmonics or rubbing with 12mm.

daniel, did you identify where it's rubbing? it could rub on the fender lip or on the plastic behind where the metal and bumper meet... i'm not sure what your camber settings are, but mine are at -1.8º in the rear and i rubbed the fender lip with 12.5mm spacers, and still rubbed with 10mm spacers, but it was rubbing on the plastic, not on the fender lip. like you, i'm also running stock suspension on the stock wheels with 255/35/18 PSS. the rubbing occurred under rear suspension compression, typically with my kids in the back.

i can't stand the idea of it, so i want to roll the rear fender lips and stiffer suspension should help as well. i don't want to run more negative camber (actually would like to run less), so hoping with the fender lip roll, 10mm spacers and stiffer suspension i can run -1.2º.

Thanks, Charlie! :thumbsup

And I'm sure MFactory can chime in here, but as I understand it, the LSD unit itself is fabricated at MFactory's location in Taiwan and then shipped to Synchrotech in California, where I had sent in the core, who does the final rebuild and assembly as pictured below for my Differential:

20308

20309

20310

20311

The Hong Kong address must be for the parent company of both MFactory and Synchrotech.

My pre-install opinion is positive. I was fully aware of the manufacturing location and do not believe it to be an issue. After extensive perusing of the reviews coming out of their JDM and E9x offerings along with the limited E46 reviews, I have not found anything beyond issues that were immediately fixed and nothing even remotely close to the OS Giken level of failures. Plus, I have had nothing but excellent correspondence with the representatives from the company.

That said, I want to try and remain unbiased until I gain time and miles with this LSD. Definitely will be posting a review and mileage updates as I understand that I am one of the first along with a couple other members to "take a chance" with MFactory rather than pay double or triple for the other more established brands.

Are those seals for valve cover/vanos?

That long one is for the Vanos unit to the valve cover. The little square one is the oil filter housing gasket and circular ones are the Beisan vanos seals.

Butt dyno pull report is definitely stronger. I mean...with the 3.46 it's tough to gauge, also, there is about a 200mi break in period with these so I'll do some more testing after that.

How long did it take you to cover all the leather surfaces?

About 45min to an hour. Not too bad. Used a spray bottle and latex glove as in the pic and would spray the oil onto my hand and then massage it in. Used a liberal amount per seat as well. I'm not worrying about the seatbelts, figure if it was more of an issue they would have a statement in the leatherique directions. I'd recommend starting earlier in the day as it was getting quite hot leaning in massaging...

Pay special attention to the non-leather parts of the door cards. I still have some residue on there because I keep forgetting to take it off (and quite honestly am too lazy to). Also, the center console may need attention if you did the very outside of the leather as well (the parts nobody touches). All those hard to reach crevices!

First visit to RRT today. Should have taken her here a long time ago for alignments, among other things. Awesome shop and people.

4 wheel alignment performed, Z4M fcab install noted, nothing else too far off. Evened things up and dialed back a bit after discussion of driving habits/autox. Turner Motorsport 90mm studs removed, factory wheel bolts installed. Small bend/air leak in left front wheel (inside section), tire dismounted and resealed. Road forced balanced (11 psi readout, no issues).

Peter,

The last alignment I had done was at the dealer, "stock" settings. Today was stock as well minus the Z4M bushings...I didn't say I wanted to dial it down, just said stock settings evened out and they set it to the above to save some wear from what the dealer had done. Didn't discuss any particular reasoning for dialing in less other than in comparison to the before. Tire wear is not a huge concern considering wheel swap in a couple months (trying not think about that, but at the same time looking forward to it as you and I talked about) and I take public trans to work most days...that being said...

I LOVE how she drives. Those bushings are definitely an awesome upgrade. Tight, yet not as "stiff" as she was before. I can feel more of the road, in an awesome way. Improved that "connection" feeling I get with this car. VERY pleased with the car as she is now. No plans to change anything anytime soon. Autocross with the BMW CCA this Saturday, will update afterwards, will be the usual, tight, parking lot course so turn-in will be tested. :thumbsup

Vas and I comparing zhp's. 3.46 LSD vs. 3.07 Open. Z4M FCABs vs. Poly. M3 engine and Trans mounts vs. Stock (77k on mine). Verdict (for me): LOVE the LSD and the 3.46 gearing for the twisty roads we were on and around town really feels tighter and more connected and puts you at better points in the range easier. I would say swapping to the 3.46 even without the LSD is worth it for our cars if you want a good bang for your buck.

Liked his m3 mounts, adding to the list as I get to around 85-90k for sure. Liked the z4m better than the poly. I'll let him weigh in when he gets a chance but I think the verdict is the same on the first item! ;)

Michelin Pilot Super Sports in stock sizes on mine, Bridgestone S-04 Pole Positions on his. Probably will switch to those down the line to save costs, felt almost the same as the PSS's...if someone asked me to tell which I was on I couldn't say.

A hellacious 75 hour week getting this proposal kicked off but believe it's firmly on the tracks and moving straight forward. As such, believe we can go ahead and plan Oct 24th as that day to do maintenance at my house. For Vas's control arms, not sure if he'll need a pickle fork to bust the ball joints loose. Ryan, Agree with Shawn on both accounts. I opted for the Z4M's also because I like the idea of keeping my car relatively "OEM" in overall feel with the obvious upgrades made to enhance the car. As I've mentioned in the other thread, my daily driving duties are not a Spec E46 race so I have not really wanted to buy into the "group think" on the forums that you gotta have poly bushings when A) I barely drive as it is and B) the solid rubber Z4M ones are enough of an upgrade that I am happy with.

I would say one of those coins is a silver dollar and the other is a dime based on what I've read about the poly bushings. They are significantly harder. It's really a pure personal preference question.

Deltran Battery Tender Plus plugged into ZHP cigarette lighter and in maintenance mode. Erin's Prius loaded up and ready.

2 week trip starts tomorrow morning, Charleston, SC beach house for Christmas weekend, then on to Cocoa Beach/Melbourne/Indialantic, Florida for next week/the New Year! Can't wait to check out Charleston for the first time and explore/eat! Also hoping to meetup with some of those Florida people! :biggrin

Have a great trip. Don't eat too much!
