Hey all,
I've noticed that the suspension seems to be making a weird air compression sound and kinda sounds like what my moms Lexus is doing with it's suspension that is shot... Is there a way to inspect it and or refurb it?

What suspension is inatalled? Stock? No rebuild option. You can inspect the bound/rebound (the cheap way) by seeing how the car reacts to you pushing down on fender. Bounce is bad.

Or, you can remove the struts/shocks and test them that. The stick suspension is good for 100k miles or so depending on road conditions.

Miles on current setup?

Sometimes its normal. My Dad's M5 does this, as does a friends M5, and a family friend's Mercedes with only 40k on the odo.

I also think I noticed some subframe cracking and a repair job under the carpet where the spare is?

The so called "air noise" is the noise of the fluid traveling through the tight valves inside the shock. That is normal. Check your tire wear around the inner side, if you are getting any signs of cupping.. such as raised and lower tire blocks then the struts are toats. Also, mileage alone is typically a good indicator as well. At 60K they begin to degrade, at 90K you are pretty much all dome with shocks

+1 on the air noise being normal. My e90 with 88,000 miles makes that noise. I can hear it only while driving with windows rolled down. Car still drives fine.

I just change my rear shocks and front struts and they were shot! Went with Koni yellows for the rear and KWV1's up front. One rear shock wouldn't even rebound when compressed and the same for one front strut. What a difference the new ones made! I would suggest at least starting there if they are still the stock ones. Koni has a Sale for 25% off right now.

Yeah I figured. I'm debating on swap or trading for a manual too. Prefer an alpine or imola coupe 6 spd

KW for the front and Koni for the rear...? Never heard of mismatching shocks before...

I like to be different. Actually I bought the KWV1's from Dane and decided to get the Koni's during their sale. It rides perfect.

Plenty of people do it, its acceptable. Dad runs OEM VW front struts and bilstein HD on the rear of his Jetta. Rides really nicely and is a blast in the twisties.

I went with Sachs all the way around. I'm boring.

I will be as well. I think the ZHP has more ability than I am willing to exploit on public roads so might as well keep the OEM like ride. However, I will be getting the upgraded Sachs Advantage shocks vs the OEM equivilant Sachs Touring shock

Good morning, famiglia

While searching the site last night for information on cupping, I came across this conversation from 2014. If there is a more recent one, let me know.

Although there is very little cupping on the left front tire, any cupping is too much, IMO.

Thank you
